Tibet - Songtsän Gampo
The Tibetan Empire was a political entity based in what is now the Tibetan plateau of Central Asia. From its foundation in the seventh century by Songtsan Gampo, Tibet grew to occupy an area from the Indian Ocean to Pakistan and central China, threatening well-established kingdoms in China and India. It became a renowned centre for Buddhism, and the religious leader of Tibet is known and revered worldwide. The Empire of Tibet lasted for over 200 years, until a civil war resulted in the Era of Fragmentation and the dissolution of the empire, sealing the fate of Tibet by weakening the former territories and opening them to foreign occupation.
