Civilization: Beyond Earth has so many new things to talk about it can be hard to focus on just one. We are going to try anyhow :p In this new dev blog, co-Lead Designers Will and Dave talk about creating the lore found in Civ:BE

(This is a repost from the 2K Forums)

I like that their ideas about the setting for CivBE appear to have come before the game itself. It sounds like they're trying to create a civ game within the context of an SF setting rather than creating a civ game and then tacking on an SF setting. If the civilopedia entries for all this future stuff are as detailed as they normally are, I think that will go a long way toward pleasing the fans who want a SMAC-level immersiveness.

It's good that the devs are throwing a few things out there for us to mull over, however there is not as much substance to this article as I'd have like to have seen.

This article had potential to deliver a little glimpse into the quality we are hopefully going to see.

I have had doubts since watching the announcement that the two guys are a little too young and inexperienced to deliver a truly grand game on the scale some people are expecting. Hope I'm wrong but I just see another CIV5 base game all over again....saved by the introduction of Ed Beach with all his years experience and trial and error.

nice little blurb. I like that they are taking the civlopedia seriously. hoping they do more development blogs.

Nothing really new that we don't know. It's a shame they keep telling us about the lore rather than the lore itself :p

I hope they're actually planning to share some of the lore before its release instead of keeping the book closed and unspoiled... I remember I had a good time waiting for G&K and BNW, with all that speculation and those "who's that leader???" games they promoted. That's not possible now, but I'd really want to know more about the Beyond Earth universe before I jump into it.

Yeah, the one thing that kept me going throughout the BNW release was the daily checking of these forums to see if any more leaderhints were dropped.

I'd love if they did something similar.

nah, that's what the fan fiction books will be for ;)

I wouldn't mind what he said, because actually when I'm ingame i'm too excited playing to read anything. That's why I usually don't like games that need a lot of tutorials, I prefer when it's possible to understand everything just playing. (I didn't appreciate Xenoblade on Wii because of this)

That's why I wouldn't mind a pre-release of in-game larger texts, because anyway I wouldn't read them ingame, unless it's so much appealing but I doubt it.

I think if they do any sort of open beta testing, they'll be obligated to at least make the initial opening of the story public. NDAs are good, but as most video game companies have figured out, hype is better. If you want to sell a product, you've got to get people excited about it. I would guess that they'd at least let a handful of players have access to one or two factions for 100 turns or so to test game systems, during which we'd get to see at least the start of the story. And if not that, they'll at least launch a few more cinematic trailers to tease people as launch day approaches.
