0.20 First Turn CTD issue

Kael,

Could you please make step one in the first post "Turn off Show Health Bars" so that those of us who are just starting on fire don't have to read through the whole thing?

FIRE!! :goodjob:

Done, thanks.

I can see why that would cause a bug... since the health bars display off of Strength, but you've cut Strength into attack and defense and several elements and similar oddness, the game doesn't know which number to use, and freaks out.

Yeah, thats definitly where its coming from. Unfortunatly I think the calls are coming from the graphics engine, which I dont have source for. So Im just changing things and hoping it stops happening in one fo these builds to help isolate.

Spoiler :
Does it have to do with your new attack/defense strengths not translating properly into bars?

Nevermind, should have read page two first ;)

Sorry I broke the tag while I was playign with it, it will be renamed in patch "b". (and hopfully fixed but I spent a few hours on it yesterday and couldn't find the problem).

Just wanted to mention that I am having a CTD, midgame. It gives me a graphix error - and when I reload it crashes again at what is probably approximately the same place.. tried this 3 times. Are there any scripted movies/events which would trigger at Apoc Counter 60 or so?

I have not modified anything, :) just to answer a potential question.

EDIT -- actually, thinking about it - I could probably upload a copy of the savegame and someone else could load it up and see if they get a crash... lemme see about finding this file if someone wanted to try that.

Yeah, a save would be good.

Ok, I'll play the game one more time (making a save) and if it crashes I'll try to get the turn number and the Counter as references.

Well, this time when the game loaded up - different events took place and the Arm Counter dropped quite a bit ... and the game hasn't crashed. Anyways, I'll chalk that up to not being a real problem unless it starts up again (BTW - maybe axemen should get a bonus against Treants? :) Just seeing my Treant trash a line of axemen seems a bit weird to me)

My system: Win XP Pro, Service pack 2; 1 GB RAM; 2.2 Ghz, 1 old processor (not dual core); Nvidia Graphics card with 128 MB.

I have played FfH 2016 quite a bit (most recently with patch "i") and really enjoyed it. But I have been working on other projects for awhile and not kept up with more recent developments.

So last night I discovered and downloaded and installed FfH 2020. I also applied patch "h", the only one I could easily find. Having read some of the previous notes and warnings, I made sure the show the health bars option was turned off.

The game started up fine. I went through the process of selecting all of my game settings (continents type [FfH], world size, ethnic type, difficulty level, etc.) with no problem. Then I told it to set up the game. That process started, but never finished.

The green progress bar moved about 1/8th of the way across but never moved further. The music continued to play and the PC seemed to be doing something; the drive light continued to blink, sometimes slowly, sometimes more frequently and quickly before slowing down again. I let it run for quite some time (20 minutes?). But nothing more ever happened. I could not exit the process by any means. I finally had to turn off the PC.

Do you have any ideas as to what I should try next? Should I try to apply all of the patches before "h"? If so, where can I find them? Aren't all earlier patches rolled up into the most recent one?

Thanks for your time and help.

The latest patch is fine for anyone not playing multiplayer - there were some files added in a and removed later as they were redundant, and the cumulative patch doesn't remove them. I suspect your problem may be the map type - some or all of the custom map scripts aren't updated for 0.20.
