Board philosophy question here:

What is the upside for keeping all registered users, even if they have never made a post in a really long time?

Does it have to do with advertising $$?

Or is it a choice of TF's that once you create an account you never have to again?

I am certainly not complaining or anything, but the auto-delete of old threads got me thinking about this again. 18K users is unwieldy and on the rare occasion where I want to find someone in the user directory, it is frankly, a pain in the ass.

Not calling for a change, just looking for info.

:)

Oh, the 0 posters a real alright, it is just that I have them locked in my basement laboratory.

And what are the results of your experimetns?
;)

On-topic: If the search for members function would be enabled looking for a certain member would be much easier although it is easier already now you can search by the first letter of the posters name. It takes away the need to delete the 0 post accounts which could be quite a pain to delete all....

Well, I was thinking along the lines of the auto-delete. Say six months and 0 total posts = delete.

It's important we become greater than Apolyton, then Firaxis will take CFC serious.
Apolyton counts all members, so CFC does the same.

I believe this is the policy of TF.
(TF feel free to correct if you don't agree with above statements).

Personally. I believe the quality of the site is more important. In that case CFC is outstanding.

Not much good so far, just two boy bands and useless tech support guys.

Many of the non posters register ther handles at lots of site to prevent them from being assumed by other cyberdenizen and creating indetity confusion.

We don't have a rule that says you have to post, and never have.

It does have to do with the way forums work. It's proven that the more active a forum is (as reflected by # of posts and # of members), the more people will join. That's why some webmasters recommend newly created forums to create some fake accounts to give a fake sense of activity. We don't need to do that here of course. :)

Another reason is that registration is required before visitors can use the forum search function. Some people probably registered just for that...

yet ;)
whynot?
I mean that is a perfectly good waste of names. I for one hate having to put numbers by my name and stuff so I have one name that is never used by anyone anywere on just about anysite. If I had to put a number behind my name I wouldn't even of joined this site.

Ask TF, is not my department. ;)

You don't actually think I was talking to you do ya ;)
oh wait you can ban me now. SIR YES I WAS TALKING TO YOU SIR!

actually it was a question for everyone and anyone so I guess that does include you.

Fair enough. I was more curious than anything else.

Those uesrs are there for the moderators to practice banning. IIRC, Lefty once banned 13 in 1 minute completely smashing TF's record of 10 which was above PH's 9 which could've been higher if he hadn't accidentaly tried to ban TF.
