I think peace with Persia is probably the best thing we could do right now. From what I see on the screen shots our units aren't in very good positions. I think we could lose more than half of them on the interturn if X-man did nothing but attack. If he used anything close to proper tactics, our forces are toast.

On our eastern front, we are in a much better position.

If we do go for peace with Persia, how far do we want to prosecute the Mayan war? Should we just get our cities back and hope to salvage something of our GA with a purchase of and a switch to Monarchy?

I'd like to get those cities back, but at this time the Mayans are just too far away for any offense against. We can either try for some allies (which locks in for 20 turns of war unless the ally chickens out) or weather the storm, retake our lost cities and settle for peace.

We probably should shoot for peace with Persia right now to save those units. We'll also need to juggle the defenders in the north to save the remaining cities (the closest is defended by only a warrior).

You're right Denyd. Any MAs would lock us in too long. We really aren't in a position to take the war to the Mayan heartland. Get our cities back and sue for peace.

Preflight check: Taxstarve Gordium and Ergil (both rioting); taxstarve Samaria was well; bump the lux slider up to 10% to relieve the riots in core towns; Damn, Catar disconnected from Iron so no way to upgrade the warriors in that town (what were we waiting for here?); Instead, switch Courthouse to an archer; Switch Lapurdum to an archer from a barracks; switch Tyranna from a Temple to an archer
We are at war with Persia, the Hittites, and Maya

Trade: Persia: Peace and Republic for 712g
Hittites: Peace
Shutdown research
Move all the very injured GA’s out of Persia. Move warrior out of Ratae and towards Ergili. Move cat from Ergili towards the Mayan front
Verulamium archer comes S to relieve the GS in Arbela

Upgrade Seamus (reg warrior in Gergovia) to a GS.

IBT: Many Mayan swords move towards us. Riots end: Alesia GS -> GS (MM to stop growth and shave 1T off build); Lug GS-> GS; Richborough GS -> GS; Cata archer -> archer; Tolosa worker -> worker (looks like I can’t make a galley?)

T1: 70AD Near Gorgovia: Seamus (reg GS) kills horse; vet GS retreats from sword (3/4); vet GS kills sword; rotate troops

IBT: Mayan sword dies to our spear in Gorgovia; Camul GS -> GS; Tyrana Archer -> archer; Lindum barracks -> market

T2: 90AD Near Gorgovia: vet GS kills sword; vet GS redlines but dies to Jav Thrower; Seamus kills jav thrower; Rotate a spear into Gergovia from Bactra (6 defenders vs 8 attackers)

IBT: we lose 2 spears and 1GS while the Maya lose 2 Jav Throwers and 1 swordsman at Gorgovia
Entremont GS -> GS; Burigala worker -> worker; Lapurdum archer -> archer

T3: 110AD Gergovia: GS dies to elite Jav Thr (4/5); GS retreats from sword (4/5); I have the rng; GS kills elite sword and promote (4/5); GS retreats from Jav Thr (4/5); GS redlines but dies to Jav Thr; GS redlines but kills sword and promotes (2/5); GS kills sword (3/4)
Near Tyrana: reg archer redlines Jav thrower; vet spear dies to jav thower :(

IBT: Maya lose 4 Jav Thrower and we lose 2 GS’s; Bactra barracks -> spear; Verum GS -> GS; Curov barracks -> GS
Maya move strongly against our coastal cities to the East

T4: 130AD I decide we can’t handle the Maya alone so I call in the Iroquois for 545g. That should make things messy for them. Whip temples in Arbela and Ergili to offset Persian culture. Whip a wall in Gergovia (should have done this when I saw the 1st SoD)

IBT: Maya declare war on the Hittites; Lose 3 GS’s and 1 archer while Maya lose 2 Jav Throwers
Arbela temple -> spear; Alesia GS -> GS; Lug GS -> GS; Gergovia walls -> court; Ergili temple -> spear

T5: 150AD Gergorvia: GS kills Jav Thr; elite GS kills sword and we get our 1st MGL! [dance]Form army and load 2 GS’s into it; Elite GS attacks redlines sword and kills it; Army attacks redlined sword and kills it; Army attacks Jav Thr and kills it, promoting 1 unit to elite; Army moves back into Gergorvia. For the 1st time, no units are near Gerg. :) Load elite* into army and rename to Bad Man Army (suggestions welcome)

Save for the night :sleep:

will get back to this tomorrow (Saturday)

IBT: Entremont GS -> market; Camul GS -> GS; Catar Archer -> spear; jav thrower pillages the gems road; Other Maya units run back towards home so I guess the alliance is having an effect :)

T6: 170AD Battle for August: Army kills spear but is badly damaged (4/10); GS kills spear; GS kills jav thrower; elite GS kills 2/3 jav thrower; elite GS kills 1/5 jav thrower and we retake the city + 4 slaves (actually, these are celt workers) + 6g. People are happy again. Build a temple in August.
Catar -> upgrade vet warrior Liam to GS
Whip a temple in Sameria and Gordium
Drop Lux tax to get an extra +12gpt

IBT: Iroquois and Greece sign peace; Gordium temple -> spear; Richborough GS -> GS; Sameria Temple -> spear; Ratea barracks -> spear

T7: 190AD Units heal; make some improvements. The 4 workers from August are going towards the eastern cities to improve the land and connect the gems

IBT: Curovernum spear -> spear

T8: 210AD Attack on Agedincum: Bad Man Army kills jav thr (13/14); GS kills reg spear and we retake the city + 1 slave + 5g -> walls
Near August elite GS kills reg Jav thrower
Ok, we have our cities back and the spices connected. In 3T, Sameria’s borders will grow and we will get furs. Gems near Tyrania is only a matter of worker turns now.
There is no threat from the Mayans at all and the Romans seem to be handing them their hat right now.
Switch Curovernum to harbor or it will not grow much more.

IBT: Rome offers an alliance vs Babylon and will give us 2 workers and 4 gold (but not Monarchy). It is an interesting proposal but I turn it down for now. We should seriously consider it as it would allow us to completely surround Persia.
Alesia GS -> GS; Lug GS -> SoZ (no one else is building it so why not?); Bactra Spear -> spear; Verul GS -> GS; Maya building Sun’s

T9: 230AD More improvements, Shore-up border with Persia by moving some of the new GS’s to those cities.

IBT: Persia and Iroquois sign peace; Persia and Hittites sign peace; Camul GS -> GS; Eboracum spear -> court; Lapurdum archer -> worker

T10: 250AD I fortify a lot of the troops on the eastern front so that the next player can decide where they want to put them.

We should seriously consider the offer from Rome. Unfortunately, I tried to force them to hand over engineering or fued and they refused both and turned furious. They are weak compared to us so, in my mind, we have 2 options.
1. declare war, capture some cities, then get techs for peace. we have more than enough troops plus an army to slice thru babylon right now.
2. save our money and steal a tech (need 1082g for a safe steal, about 10 more turns)

@denyd: since bugs is out of touch till tomorrow, you can pick it up and play as a swap or wait. either is fine by me.

crap, i really need to get my head out of my ass sometimes :lol: we are religous so next player, please revolt to republic immediately. sorry for the screw-up. hopefully, we can still get something usefull out of this GA (remember, I increased it to 30T for this mod).
thanks

I've got it.

Revolt is in order. Also some muscle flexing.

Pre-flight – 250 AD – We can get a worker for peace, but don’t we have some MA’s in place?
Caesar will sell us a Persia slave for dyes.
Alexander will give us exactly 14G for Republic, no techs.
Ten turns left on our peace treaty with Persia and on our treaty with the Hittites.
14 turns left on an alliance with Hiawatha. No peace.

The world is at world. The only one not fighting is X.

Overthrow the government. Two turns of anarchy. Hire several scientists.

Go back and review G-man’s passdown. Agree with the war with Babylon plan. I’ll follow that up with a set up to go to war with Persia again once the ten turns are up.

Wake up several GS and move them into position for an assault next turn.

IBT – Iroquois and Rome sign peace.
Maya start Sun Tzu.
Tacitus says we’re the largest nation.

1. 260 AD – Declare war on the Babylonians.

@ Eridu- Two elite GS slice through the defenders and the city joins the Glorious Celtic Anarchy. One of the citizens aren’t convinced it is such a good deal.

@ Akkad – Our army kills a defender, while the rest of our troops move into attack position.

IBT – Hammi sends a few Bowmen north past our units, but doesn’t attack.
The Glorious Celtic Republic is born. Padraic Pearse would be proud.

2. 270 BC – The rations at Eridu are lost and someone will probably starve there. :(

@ Ashur – The defensive is strong and we lose a GS.

@ Akkad – We lose a GS, but Babylon loses a city. Only one of the Akkadians are angry about it. The other voluntarily puts on a clown suit and starts to dance in the streets. We also get four slaves in the process.

Move a force of three GS to the mountain next to Eulbar.

It will be interesting to see where Hammi sends his four bowmen.

IBT – One of the four attack a GS in a forest and dies a horrible death. Two move next to Akkad, and a four moves next to Eridu.
Cataract, Ratae: spear=>GS
Tolosa: worker=>worker

3. 280 AD – Kill the Bowman outside Eridu.

@Eulbar – We kill one spear but the last one bravely defeats one GS and retreats another all at redline.

The RNG is starting to tick me off. Attack a 2/3 Bowman on a plains tile with a 4/4 GS and we don’t even scratch him. :mad:

Shuffle an extra defender into Akkad.

IBT – Greece & Hittites sign a peace treaty.
At the gates of Akkad, two bowmen attack and die.
Rome and Maya sign a peace treaty.
Entremont: market=>GS
Burdigala: worker=>court
Lapurdum: worker=>court

4. 290 AD – Move our almost healthy army to Eulbar and kill one defender. Use a healthy GS to kil the other and Eulbar joins the Celtic Republic. The people are actually happy about.

Kill a roaming bowman. The silly Babylonians still won’t talk to our envoy.

Gems are now hooked up and we have a lot more happy people.

IBT – No counters.
Alesia: GS=>market
Camulodunum: GS=>GS
Richborough: GS=>market
Bactra: spear=>GS
Verul: GS=>market

5. 300 AD – Maneuvering. Hammi will talk. We can get one city, but no techs.

IBT – One of our horses are pillaged. We defeat one Bowman at Eulbar, and another ten or so step forward.
The Mayans want to talk. Won’t give tech for peace. Listen dude we have this MA with Hiawatha. You gotta make it worth our while.
Entremont: GS=>GS

6. 310 AD – There are eight units around Eulbar. Kill two and then fortify. Shuttle another defender into the city.
Hire a tax man in Camulodunum.

IBT – Our army kills three bowman and is killed by a fourth on a lousy streak of five straight hp loses. We lose two other GS.
Cataract: GS=>GS

7. 320 AD – Seven attackers are still around Eulbar. We have four defenders.

WW is starting to kick in. Might be time for peace soon.

IBT – Three bowmen die at the gates of Eulbar with no loss for the Celts.
Entremont: GS=>GS
Camulodunum: GS=>Market
Ratae: GS=>GS

8. 330 AD – Kill the remaining Bowmen around Eulbar.

Decide we need to try some espionage. Attempt a careful steal from the Iroquois for 820G. We steal Feudalism.

Turn around and sell it to the Greeks for Monarchy, Engineering & 1g.

Also time for peace with Babylon. I take Sippar.
We can’t get Monotheism for Feudalism and all our gold, so I trade Feadalism & Republic for Monotheism and 16G

IBT – Babylon and Iroquois sign a MA against the Maya.
Babylon pulls Persia into the Mayan war.
Babylon starts Sun Tzu.
Maya pulls Rome in against us.
Lindum: Market=>duct

9. 340 AD – Start moving units to the Roman front.

IBT – Entremont: MDI=>MDI
Bactra: MDI=>Market
Greeks and Persians start Sun Tzu.

10. 350 AD – Maneuvering.

After Action: There is a GS heading towards our new Babylonian city.

Several units are moving towards Roman cities.

Situation:

Very nice Bugsy - excellent job on Hammi - I also like the trading, anytime you can add 2 techs to our knowledge in this game [party]

Any thoughts on where I should go with this?

I'm thinking whack the Romans for a couple of cities, sue for peace and maybe another or some tech, then move the troops back to hit Xerxes again. I'd sure like to get him off the board. Hammi is in pretty bad shape at this point and Mursilis is on the ropes. We will probably see them both gone within the next 40 turns.

As for tech, any research going on? Should we be stealing & trading (& pointy stick) or researching ourselves? (I'm leaning to the former)

I got it but will be playing after SGOTM2, so probably not until tomorrow night.

Stealing is actually much cheaper than research. I should have waited until we had a safe steal, but I figured since we had an alliance with Hiawatha we were probably safe if we got caught.

I think your plan for whacking the Romans and then going for X-man is about what I was thinking. Sack those two cities just to our east and Caesar will beg for peace.

Probably start keeping units in the west for another Persian war.

very nice bugs :goodjob: I think from now on we either steal or extract techs. keep research @ 0% and use our economy to build reserves. no need for libraries but markets will help with happiness and WW.

Markets made a huge difference. Entremont went from on the edge of unhappiness to being 100% happy with a market.

Nice job Bugs. :goodjob:

Gah, away again... see my sig. Needing a skip... Summer vacation is more busy than the schoolyear. :rolleyes:

hi, i figured out why we can't build galleys. i must have clicked on the "available to civ's" box in the editor as it appears only the greeks can build galleys. luckily, we're on a pangea :) sorry for the screw-up.

we may want to consider switching SoZ to FP or looking for another city slightly S or SE for the FP. we're starting to get big and the corruption will become unbearable if we don't build it.

good luck :)

I would let Zeus finish. Persepolis would be a great place for an FP :mischief:

Didn't get a chance to play last night (this daddy thing is cuting into my Civ time :gripe: )

I did get a little time to check out the situation and it looks like X-man is doing a nice job keeping Hammi off our backs. We've probably got enough troops for a brief offensive (2-3 cities) against western Rome. After that we should turn our attention to bulking up the military and taking out either Hammurabi or Xerxes (or both).

I should be playing and posting tonight, so any comments/suggestions will be considered for the next 12 hours.
