1.0 gram - Ancient Age All-Stars (C3C - Modified Rules)

Yeah, its funny how it seems that so often most of the SG's I'm in I'm also up at the same time...

Actually Ankka, it sounds like you had a very nice set of turns. Nice job getting Hammi to declare. :hammer:

I'm back and can play this one tonight - I got it

Just a quick update and a couple of questions:

I completed a review of the AI and of our cities and I played most of Turn 0:

The bad news:
I spent all of our cash

The good news:
We have 35% of the land and second place is the Maya at 9% (unclaimed is 41%)
We have chivalry and a bunch of knights

Plan:
1. Send all the slow movers to complete acquisition of Babylon
2. Send the fast movers to eliminate Hittites & Rome.

Questions for the team:
Are we shooting for domination or conquest as a victory condition?
Who's next on our list of victims?

Rome & Hittites are going to be easy
Iroquois to the north have chivalry and might make a good ally for attack on Maya
Maya are to the NE, no chivalry and would probably get run over by knights
Greeks to the east have Hoplites, but not chivalry

2. I haven't used the GL yet, would the FP be better in old Rome or Bablyon (more eastern)?

We probably don't need any more troops, except for defenders, so each new city will get a culture building, then go for settlers or wealth.

I piled up a little SoD ready for an asault for someone in Some city in the North that has a "y" in it... Can't remember the name.

FP in the far east would really help I think.

Babylon, Rome & Hittites are great short term.

Long term, I think we may want to hit the Iroquois first. While they may have Chivalry, it may be a good idea to get them while they don't have many knights. Plus they have been fighting the Maya and are probably weak, or at least out of position.

With the amount of troops left to me, there will be a lot less opponents on the board when my ten are done.

1. Babylon
2. Hittites
3. Rome
4. Iroquois

Here's the first 5 turns:

Turn 0 – 900 AD – Reset Personal Preferences – Spend 950g to carefully steal Chivalry from Iroquois – research Invention with 1 scientist – Elite Horseman (2/5) kills Elite Bowman – Change the knight & MDI builds to pikeman (cheaper and will allow the current MDI to move to the front) – Gallic Army (9/14) kills 2 Spearmen in Uruk – Upgrade a bunch of Veteran Horsemen to Knights – Gallic Army (6/9) kills Elite Babylon Spear – Plan for Forbidden Palace in Rome

IBT: More curragh movement – Knight (1/4) runs from Bowman (2/5) – Lug pike->pike – Cam pike->pike – Nema curragh->aqueduct – Lap pike->pike – Curo pike->pike

Turn 2 – 920 AD – 2 Trebuchets redline a bowman and elite horse (4/5) kills him – Assault on Zariqum: MDI Army (11/18) kills Vet Spear – Vet Knight (4/4) kills Reg Spear and Zariqum is ours – Troops ready for end of Rome – Hittite end also in sight – Ellipi attacked next turn

IBT: More curragh movement – Vet Pike (1/4) defends against Vet Bowman – Entremont knight->pike – Alesia pike->pike – Camu pike->pike – Bactra knight->pike – Veru knight pike

Turn 4 – 940 AD – Cumobelmus hurries Forbidden Palace in Rome – Assault on Adana: Vet Knight (1/4) kills Vet Spear – Vet Knight (3/4) kills Vet Spear – Vet Knight (1/4) retreats from Reg Spear (2/3) – Vet Knight (1/4) kills Reg Spear – Vet Knight (4/4) kills Vet Archer and Adana with 4 slaves is ours – Cleanup around Ghulman: Vet Knight (1/4) retreats from Vet Archer – Vet Knight (4/4) kills Vet Archer – Assault on Aleppo: Knight/Gallic Army (17/18) kills 2 Vet Spears (1 promotion) and captures Aleppo and the Hittites don’t die – Rome city of Jerusalem is spotted in Mayan lands – assault on Samarra: Gallic Army (xx/xx) kills 2 Vet Spears and Samarra is ours and Babylon is down to 1 city

IBT: 1 MDI dies to Hittite Archer and 1 Knight (2/5) survives attack and promotes – Rome builds Forbidden Palace and income jumps 55gpt – Lug pike->pike – Catar pike->pike – Lindum pike->pike

Turn 5 – 950 AD – Position troops for end of Rome (part 2) and end of Babylon

IBT: Rome sends a SOD (6 Legions) our way – Iroquois and Maya sign peace – Found last Hittite city – Entremont pike->pike – Camu pike-pike – Richard pike->pike – Veru pike->pike – Lapu pike->pike – Ratae pike->pike

Turn 6 – Assault on Jerusalem: Gallic/Knight Army (14/18) kills 3 reg spears and auto-razes Jerusalem, captures 4 slaves and Rome is gone – Assault on final Babylon city: Trebuchets go 11/12 – Elite MDI (5/5) kills redlined spear and GL Dummox is born

This is an interesting shot of the last Hittite & Roman cities. I've never seen the AI found a city with so little space.

Here's where we stand:
1. Rome is gone
2. Babylon's last city is under siege and there are 10 MDI that can still attack, so Hammurabi is gone (unless he's got a settler out there)
3. Hittite's have a single city and a Gallic Army will hit it next turn
4. We have 5 turns left on an incense deal with Iroquois, who has about 6 cities
5. We have 15 turns left on a getting 20gpt from Greece
6. No active deals with Maya, but they are the largest and most powerful foe left
7. Most western coastal cities have pike garrisons

Plans:
1. Finish off Babylon and Hittites
2. Move fast attackers to Iroquois borders
3. Move slow attackers to the east to prepare for Mayan war
4. Once current wave of pikes finish build start adding libraries
5. Turn research back and push for Astronomy

Questions for team:
1. What should I do with the new Great Leader?
A. Knight Army for attacking
B. Pike Army to defend the trebuchet
C. Save for an upcoming minor wonder
D. Use for a palace move

My first choice is A and my second choice is B

Another thing to think about, at last check we had about 40% of the land and there was still 35% unclaimed. If a big chunk of dirt that we'll need for domination or the last AI city that we'll need for conquest is on another island, we can't get there until we have caravels.

I think there is a lot of dirt that we'll be able to get to out in the fog.

I think those were desparation settlements by the Hittites and Romans. I've seen it before that if a civ is down to a settler, they will just plunk themselves down anywhere and even declare war to do it. If those two cities don't autoraze, raze them yourself.

I agree with choice A then B. Both would be devastating in a pillaging campaign.

I agree on the Leader choices.

I doubt we'll have to go for another continnent, we can just fight the Maya if needed. Or Greece.

THE SAVE

Rest of the turn log:

Turn 6 – 960 AD - Assault on Jerusalem: Gallic/Knight Army (14/18) kills 3 reg spears and auto-razes Jerusalem, captures 4 slaves and Rome is gone – Assault on Izibia: Trebuchets go 11/12 – Elite MDI (5/5) kills redlined spear and GL Dummox is born – Dummox moves to Ellipi and forms army – Elite MDI (5/5) kills redlined spear – Elite Horseman (5/5) kills redlined spear – Vet MDI (4/4) kills redlined spear and Izibia is ours with 4 slaves and Babylon is gone – Begin sending slow movers to Maya border and fast units to Iroquois border and new pikes to border/coastal cities

IBT: Lots of Hittites spearmen flee their capital – Smoke complains about one of our knights – Arbela courthouse->library – Aleisa pike->library – Gordium courthouse->market – Bactra pike->library – Gergovia pike->library – Burd pike->library – Curo pike->library – Iroquois starts Knights Templar

Turn 7 – 970 AD – Gallic/Knight Army (12/18) kills 2 Vet Spearmen - Move lots of units to staging locations

IBT: Lose a knight to a Hittite Archer – Entremont pike->library – Rome market->library – Lug pike->library – Camu pike->library – Hattusha pike->library – Tyra aqueduct->market –Tolo harbor->temple

Turn 8 – 980 AD – Gallic / Knight Army kills 2 Reg spears and auto razes Alaca Huyuk, captures 4 workers and Babylon is gone – then more moving units to rally points and garrisoning border towns

IBT: Minimal Mayan movement – Antioch pike->courthouse – Richard pike->library – Cata pike->harbor – Lapur pike->library – Ratae pike->library

Turn 9 - 990 AD – Lots of unit movement – Spend about 900g hurrying temples

IBT: All the temples that completed are now building courthouses

Turn 10 – 1000 AD – On Station at Rally Point Fast: 15 Vet Knights + 3 Armies, in route 7 Vet Knights & 2 Elite Horsemen. At Rally Point Slow: 13 Vet MDI + 2 Elite MDI + 1 Trebuchet + 1 Vet Archer, in route 34 MDI, 16 Trebuchet, 1 Army, 2 Archers & 9 Pikemen – Our deal with Iroquois is now over and we can declare when we are ready. We can probably start once the units heal with the fast units attacking the Iroquois and while we continue to assemble the slower units. There are war clouds over the Iroquois nation.

I left 3 pike with goto instructions to complete the southern garrisons. When those units reach their destinations, all the coastal & borders cities will have a pike garrison. We currently have 40% of the land, the other 3 combined have 20% and there is 40% unclaimed, those this will change once those temple culture expansions take place. I didn’t mention it, but we have a curragh exploring the Greek eastern coast. Considering the amount of military we have and the quality of the players in line to :hammer: what's left, I don't think this one is going to make it back to me.

Nice job of :hammer: Denyd!

Your log says you killed Babylon twice, but I know that Alaca was the Hittite capitol from the picture. Three civs gone in the space of three turns, nice work.

Probably want to hit the Iroquois and Mayas, but we will need to maintain a force in the east to protect against the Greeks.

Shall we go for a conquest or domination win. Personnaly I think Conquest would be sweeter given the modification.

Domination is always faster. It is just a matter of style points.

My thoughts for the remainder of the game:

1. Heal the wounded armies and complete the fast & slow SOD's
2. Declare war on the Iroquois
3. Get Greece as an ally against Iroquois (the Mayan already hate Iroquois)
(Two reasons: to prevent eastern front attacks and to get Greece to kill any eastern Iroquois cities)
4. When Iroquois down to last gasp, most of fast attack force south to western Maya lands
5. Declare war on Maya and attack western Mayan with fast attack and central Mayan with slow attack troops (use artillery on size 12 cities)
6. Get Greece as an ally against Maya
7. Finish off Iroquois
8. As Mayan cities fall, advance pike garrisons to new border cities.
9. Once the Mayans are gone, it's us against the Greek (Boadicea vs Xena)

As for core city builds, once those libraries are complete, I don't have any good ideas. Having nearly 50 MDI, 25 Knights & 20 Trebuchets, we probably have enough military to finish this. If it turns out that we won't need to research any more, then those libraries should be switched to markets, aqueducts or knights. There is one island with a Greek city on the eastern coast, so we'll need to get that via peace treaty for a conquest win. Note that even as big as we are, we only have 40% of the world (and 40% unclaimed).

I think the roster looks like this at the moment (but it wouldn't be my first mistake today)
