Just wondering if anyone else out there is still getting CTD.

I know I am, in addition the CTD occasionally results in lowering of desktop resolution and colour.

nope not for me... was ok pre-patched, have been ok since patched.
just for the record's sake, running intel 3Ghz, 1GB ram and 6600GT with 77.77 driver from leadtek.

I still get CTDs. But now they're different, it screwed up my desktop in a way that it hasn't done before.

AMD64 3000+, 1 gig ram, x600, 5.11 catalysts..

Yeah, CTD is still happening. I have a modern era game that will crash every time I zoom out to globe view (before and after patch). But it doesn't happen in earlier eras.

Ciuld be that you need to start a new game for the fixes to work, the game could have been corrupted by something before you applied the patch. I had a similar crash with zooming out the other day, pre-patch, but it was transient and didn't happen when I reloaded.

I haven't had time to play with the patched version yet, sp can't comment on the OP's question.

Hmm might be the case, I was a playing a saved game from 1.00.

Gonna test it out with 1.09.

After the new patch: I had crashes with new games as well as old saves. In fact I had a crash once in the world-setup-screen. That never happened before the patch. My comp crashed sooner after I patched it.

Now I am back to 1.00. I am kind of waiting for what happens first: Patch number 2 or me getting so tired of civ4 (nearly blasfemy to say that).

Hmm... ah well...

Not to mention the new variant strain of CTD I am getting which screws up desktop as well.

I did have a Crash to Desktop after upgrading to 1.0.9. Though this was with the latest Omega drivers (using a Radeon 9600) which is based on the ATI 5.10a driver; plus, I did upgrade to 1.0.8 first and to 1.0.9 from there while aving the Blue Marble Terrain still installed - so that was something of a mess in the first place.

I then completely uninstalled Civ 4, uninstalled the Omega driver, installed ATI's latest Catalyst 5.11, defragmented my hard drive, put a little buddha statue on my desk, burned some incense and reinstalled Civ 4. Then I upgraded directly to 1.0.9. After that I installed the Blue Marble Terrain again and it's been working like a charm so far (though I only got to around ~1600 AD so far and I used to be able to do that once in while without a crash before, too).

So, for what it's worth, you might want to try using the patch with a clean fresh install (after all, who knows which files might get messed up by the constant CTDs).

Wish me luck, I'll post here when (or if ;) ) I get my first crash now...

Yours
Markus

Managed to finish one game (on a downloaded map) with the patch and then started a new random game and started having hard crashes and BSOD immediately.

Will try on another downloaded map now but I think I have almost had it with this game.

 no luck for me.
after re-installing civ 4 and applying the patch, i'v been sent to the desktop already within 5 min of play.

Sadly, same here. In fact everything crashed more frequently, and sooner than version 1.0.

And yes, everything was up-to-date, tweaked, cleaned and patched properly from a clean install. I will be "eating" $45 CDN and take this back to EB for a $15.00 credit on another game. Any other game.

Congrats to those of you who can run and play this. It's too hard on the nerves... back to SMAX.

having same problem...

but i think it has nothing to do with old or new game.
i wanted to test if i'm now able to play a huge map withot bad lags.
first it was going fast like hell.
thent again started to get a little more laggy, but still playable.
then without warning first ctd.

reloading game (autosaved same turn befor the ctd).
this time same action (clicking somwhere on the minimap after sats-tech) no ctd, but system is swaping like hell.
after the first ctd i could play 10 or 15 turns and again without warning, black screen --> system mouscursor --> desktop *bang*
the interval between the ctds is getting shorter and the usage of the swapfile is getting worse...

Well, I'm sure this was a fluke, but . . .
I had my first CTD after installing the patch.

Interesting idea to start again instead of continuing a saved game from ver1.00 Did it work?
