1.29 Semi-public beta

 Brad I must say you have out done yourself again. We are so lucky to have you on our side of the fence :)

Thanks for you hard work on this!

Dittoe's to Brad. Will this work on the OS 10.1? Will not down load until your blessing Brad. EZ

It should work on any system that could run the original Mac Civ3 release. IIRC, that's MacOS 8.6 and up.

As always, great work.

Will the other mac monitor sizes like 1280x854 be suported?

If you know of a size that's not in the current beta, post here and I'll add it. The minimum size is 1024x768, so any new resolution has to be larger than that.

The pop-up menu shows the special sizes of
  • 1154x768
  • 1600x1024
  • 1920x1200
in addition to the "ordinary" ones. At least on my MDD. (I use 1600x1200.)

Brad, I am deep into the industrial age with the Roman GOTM, and have had no problems - everything works. I have further isolated the "slowness" I noted - it occurs once the game thinks I'm done with a turn, and tells me to press the return bar. At that point, the pointer is very sluggish in scrolling the edges of the map, I can no longer click on a unit in a city to activate, but must open the city and wake the unit, and saving also takes a moment before the box appears on the screen.

Brad, I got a hang up in 520 AD. Music kept skipping and cursor froze. I've got a save file but am unsure how to get a crash log. Where's the "console" in Civ3?

edit

Well, I had inserted some multi-units during the 1.29 beta game prior to the freeze. I went back and removed them and the game has progressed uneventful of freezes or recognizable bugs.

I must say, I very much enjoy the 'wake all'/'fortify all' feature plus naming GL producing elite units. :goodjob:

Brad,
1.21g supported the following sizes that are not in 1.29f.

1280x854
1440x900

I think these may be powerbook only sizes (not sure). Playing the game at 1024x768 when I am used to 1280x854 is pretty frustrating and kinda fuzzy looking. Thanks again for all the work.

one real minor thing i found was in the save game load window, it wasn't recognizing folders as folders if the name started with a space, it tried to load them as a .sav file.

My game recently crashed, the music hung up, and a bunch of code in white text appeared over parts of the game with a black background. And it's not the first time it's happened, but it's not just on this version either.

Hi there,

Tried the update, but the game crashed twice on me rather early on (2850 BC). Reloaded, and crahsed again, 2 turns later. The game just freezes, but the mouse is still responsive. Force quit works just fine. Didn't behave like this before (I'd get a freeze once every 7h), and I played a lot of games.
OSX 10.2.5, Dual 867, 256Megs RAM.

Damn! Just finished a great game, my first with the editor, as the Germans with my very own mod.bic (set barracks to reduce corruption and cities to 64) and fired up Moo3. The new Moo is much better than the reviews indicate with the data patch installed (code patch next month) and I'm enjoying it a lot. So what does Brad do? releases a 1.29f beta. And I'd just preordered Europa Universalis II. What was that about no games for the Mac? Looks like my next couple of years are covered.

Thanks Brad, I really appreciate the extra work!!!:goodjob:

Hey,

Tried playing some more, but the game keeps crashing, once every 3 minutes or so. Unplayable basically. Too bad.

Pinky, since no one else is reporting anywhere near the number of crashes that you are, there may be something else going on. Even your previous crash rate - one evry seven hours - sounds unusually bad. You may want to re-install the game, or otherwise troubleshoot what's going on.

Well, I went back to 1.21g, and played for quite a long time with no errors/bugs. For me, there is clearly something different between the 2 apps. Wasn't there something I could type in the terminal to get the ouput error ?

I'll try reinstalling the whole thing later. Will keep you posted.
