1.29b2 + double your pleasure + resolution hack = no good!

Move the Civ3 application into D&D window. The Installer will then recognize it (see it) and you can then install DYP by dropping it in the window.

Hi dojoboy,

I'm at home on my Mac now and did as you said, but dragging the Civilization III application to the GOTM Installer window has no effect.

When I drag the app icon to the window, it just snaps back to the original icon location in the folder window of the Civilization folder.

Quitting and restarting GOTM Installer always brings up the same error message. I could attach a screenshot, if that would help?

I wonder if I have a version incompatible with Panther (10.3.4)? The About box says it's version 0.1, I haven't found any later version in the other topics/threads.

I also wonder if I have the wrong app? I picked it up from the link provided by AlanH earlier in this thread, so I'm not sure that's the case, either.

Sorry to be asking this, but DyP would be a nice 'refresh' of what has become a stale Civ3 experience (and I'm not going to go to the dark side just to play C3C).

It should snap back, but then Civ3 ought to be recognized by Alan's intaller. Sorry, I should've explained as much. Post the error message. But, once the installer sees Civ3, you should be able to drop DYP in the window and install.

No, I use 10.3.4 Panther at home and it worked fine. Are you sure the Civ3 folder/app are both titled 'Civilization III' only?

Hi dojoboy,

I'll send the screenshot from home tonight, thanks for taking a look.

What I'm puzzled by is that the D&D Installer seems to be d&d unaware, so I'm wondering what the correct version should be. :confused: Did you use the installer, and if so, what version did you run? I d/l 0.1, which was the only one I found.

In any case, it does not seem to pick up Civilization III.

I tried a full, clean install of Civ III + 1.29b2 updater into both the Macintosh HD:Applications and ~users/[username]/Applications directories and the installer did not pick up either installation (the folders of which which are named Civilization III, no changes to the original folder names).

By the way, I tried to do a manual install of the files and I get the same error as posted previously in this thread [it says Dyp in the bottom left corner, and I can select a new game or a new scenario, but the game crashes to the desktop once the game begins, i.e. before the first settler can build the first settlement].

Maybe I need to purge the leprechauns from my Mac ........ :)

One more thing, make sure you have only one Civ3 application named accordingly. If there are more than 2, named the same, the installer will be confused. Simply rename the folders of any extras. Then take the one named correctly and drag-n-drop it. This is how you get the installer to see it.

Sorry you've been struggling with this in my absence.

You need to get the Civ3 folder you want to modify listed in the Drag and Drop installer's window. To do that drag the Folder, not the application file, to the window and drop it there.

There's no problem with compatibility with Panther. it has worked fine here in every Panther version to date.

Hi everyone,

thanks, dropping the Civ3 folder onto the app worked !!! I'm sorry for confusing everyone, but I had tried to drop the actual application onto the installer.

I'll try the DyP mod now, stay tuned .......

Hello all,

many thanks to frunobulax, dojoboy and AlanH :goodjob: Once you know how, the install is really a breeze. It works very well, thanks!

Playing DyP sure seems like a challenge! I took one look at the tech tree in ancient times and nearly fell of my chair.

I think I'm going to have to learn CivIII all over again! Congrats to the modders !! :hatsoff:

Cheers

I had the same problem and had given up until I saw this posting.

Many thanks to frunobulax, dojoboy AlanH and niaz365!

Cheers

I'm pleased to see you're sorted now. To help me understand how to reduce this sort of problem in future, what was the problem with the existing instructions?

@AlanH et alum,

thanks for the advice on the installation but I seem to have hit a different snag...

1. I have regenerated a new copy Civ III (vanilla) and placed it in a separate folder;

2. updated it to v1.29b;

3. downloaded your D&D;

4. installed into the D&D the new Civilization III location and icon;

5. I drag the ful DYP_101r.exe to the D&D (which is open);

6. it asks me to confirm where I want the mod to go; and

7. It then claimed that all the files are already in.

So on the second attempt with the same message, I tried to play but it is the old v1.29b.

What step have I missed?

I guess the problem is that you can't drop the .exe onto your Civ3 icon in the D&D window. You have to expand it to a folder first using Stuffit, then drop the folder.

Stuffit seems to be clever enough to discover the embedded zip file within the Windows installer, whereas my D&D installer can only handle simple zip files. Obviously its error handling leaves something to be desired as well, since you are clearly getting a duff error message :hmm:

Hey AlanH,

Tried the zipit using the link frunobulox suggested and it zipped up just fine, then I dragged and dropped and I got the message again that the files already exist.

What's up?

thanks.

What are you trying to do with zipit? I didn't understand the reference to it before, but everyone seemed to have sorted themselves out, and I was on vacation, so I let it go.

Here are the steps. I don't know how to describe them any more simply:

1. Download and unzip the DyP .zip file to produce a .exe file (the Windows installer).

2. Drag and drop the .exe file onto Stuffit Expander to produce a folder full of mod files.

3. Drag and drop the folder of mod files onto the Civ3 icon that you want to modify in your Mod Installer window.

HTH

Simple is best... sorry to be a pain...

Steps 1 - 3 complete and it looks like it might be ready to play...

It works!

Thanks.
