1.5x patch still have black map

Any ideas as to how to fix the black screen problem. I have a 64MB ATI video card and I downloaded the newest patch. I tried downloading the newest drivers, but received an error message.

Any thoughts as to how to fix this?
 
Post your systems specs. Is it a name brand? If so, please post make and model and whether it is a laptop or desktop.

Please post a DXdiag too.
 
Im not that great at computers, but here are the details of my computer, you'll have to give me more details as to what you were asking about if this does not answer your question:

Dell Inspiron 5100 - laptop
2.4 Ghz processor - Intel Pentium 4
640 MB Ram
ITA Video Card - 64 MB
Windows XP

I downloaded the newest update to windows and tried to get the newest driver to my video card, but ran into a failure on installation. When I open a game in Civ IV, I get a black screen, where I can see the individual units, but not the terrain.

To get these printouts, follow these steps:
Press the windows 'start' button, and select 'run'.
In the box that appears, type "dxdiag" (without the quotes) and hit the enter key.
Follow the on-screen instructions, until you get the main DirectX Diagnostic program.
Hit the "save all information" button (as shown in the graphic below). You will be prompted for a file name and can save the information as a text file.
Either upload the text file as an attachment to you post, or open it and copy and paste the data into your post.

Hi Eid,

Your computer does not support minimum spec to play the game.

you have a sis graphics chip (not a video card) which is not supported and you need 512mb of ram when playing from windows xp

Damnit. It was a gift. Why does it seem to run everything well enough then tho, expect that the terrain is blacked out and the leaders are just teeth and eyes? Why is it able to run it at all? Is there anyway to at least get the terrain to display properly?
 
You can use worldbuilder to reveal the whole map, but you're stuck with the floating eyeballs *cringes*
 
ctrl+w to enter worldbuilder. In the window on the top left, click the tab "technologies" scroll down to "satellites" and click it. Should get rid of black terrain. It's cheating but you can't do much else with a SIS chip.

EDIT: There is a mod floating around that has lower texture leaderheads (sorry I don't remember where I saw it, try google). That might help the leaderheads but I can't be sure.
 
I tried it, still have a blackout out terrain on the map. I can see coastline, trees, rivers, even jungles and resources, but not plains, grasslands, or oceans. Maybe I can download a terrain mod or something? Don't know tho.
 
I was running kind of OK under 1.09. But now I get the program tells me it has run out of video memory and exits. I know I am under spec in video memory, but on a laptop I have no choice about adding memory or changing the card. DXdiag attached. Any ideas?

Try uninstalling then reinstalling. I had the same issue and this solved it.
