Sorry to butt in, but in case it is of any historical interest:...
(Too long ago for me to remember which tribes belonged to whom exactly)
I started the game with India and Russia.
Russia was on a continent with the ai Chinese.
India was on a continent with the ai Americans and a human tribe ?Arabs??
Russia had a desperate start in terms of location and resources and was out of contact with anyone for most of (my) game.
(As India I was desperate to find her and gift all the missing techs).
India was the one having fun.
I had early contact with the Arabs?? and Egyptians.
I am a generally a tech trading whore, will trade with anyone, and had research pacts with both.
This initially worked out, so I was getting my techs for about one third the cost.
I also wiped out America, and had a nice lead in points.
Things changed at two points, when Agemo took over the Arabs we (India) had traded maps, but he still sent miltary units tramping over my territory.
I discussed this with the Egyptians, and also explained to him I wasn't keen, and he withdrew.
But from then on I was wary.
The second point (quite some time later) may have been around the time I made contact with Tim's tribe (can't remember names).
The Arabs stopped tech trading with me, citing agreements with Tim.
Tim refused to trade one particular tech, citing special need, which was fair enough.
At this point I contacted the Egyptians and pointed out the special deal Tim and Agemo obviously had.
Egypt (Dazz G) had already expressed concern around the time Agemo was tramping around India.
It was a no-brainer for us to reaffirm structured tech trading (which I think Dazz had lost the plot on previously) and look out for overt aggression.
At this point I was in a quandary.
RL problems (still existing) impinged on my ability to play both quickly enough and accurately(?) enough.
My next steps would have been for Russia, with her new tech levels, to conquer China.
I am a firm believer that the ai is only there for target practice.
As well as the earlier question marks, Arabs had been very aggressively building towns right next to my Indian borders and putting cultural pressure on.
I did not trust the Arabs, and given their latest alliance with Tim, I had pretty much decided to get my retaliation in first.
However, I really did not have time to arrange for the war (although I had quite a few knights and trebs around).
At this point I decided to quit and let someone have a go who could do it better justice than I had time for.
This was a desperate shame for me, because this was my most successful Civ4 game.
Interesting to see that no wars ever did break out, although suspicions obviously remain.
