100 meters? what would be livable?

Even if this flooding happened overnight, or even instantly, I don't believe that would destroy civilization.

I agree. I don't think it would even destroy the internet.

which is why, in the game i'll be running, a pandemic (created by someone, (ei govt or some mad scientist, or some terrorrists) decimated the most strains of the poaceae family (wheat, rice, grains, etc...)

I think that may destroy civilization.

incedentally, this is why we need the seed vault...

100 meters, such a short distance, such a huge depth.
But seeing a rise that huge is not going to happen quickly, or at all, since, as been said, there's simply not enough water, and I don't see us melting every sheet of ice in existance just yet.
That said, if this would happen, while it would devastate much of the world, for once Africa looks as though it'll get off easy. Plus it takes out a good portion of America's enemies- Iraq gets a decent drench, Russia loses a lot of land, those French will need snorkels in Paris- hey, now there's an idea!

True, West 36, but is that Washington I see swimming down there?

Most of Washington is above sea level. At worst, the sea level would rise half way up the Smith Tower.

Or are you talking DC? Stupid Washington DC...

I don't care about North America, but in Europe, people would have to move to inland countries.

Southern Germany, Czech rep, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary etc. would probably become very crowded. Spain seems fine too, so the Brits could find refuge there.

So, if the water level rose 100 meters, what would the terrain in various parts of North America Be like

Using this map, where would the Fertile areas be? where would the forests and deserts spread? etc (imagine very little Human involvment)
It's really impossible to say where the fertile areas would be. It would depend on a bazillion different factors, too many to possibly predict even, as you say, without human involvement and likely there will always be a human influence (unless we knock ourselves back to the stone age with nuclear war or die off entirely, neither of which I believe will happen).

100m higher sea level is not as impossible as it seems. 10-15°C higher Temperature and up it goes.
The advantage would be that deserts become really rare. Anything that is south of sweden gets enough rain to support a rainforest. We could plant rice and wheat in north Russia and Antarctica.
The temperature will go up anyway in the next 200 million years because of higher sun activity.
Only one question left: who takes the dutch refugees? :D

There wouldn't be enough sunlight to grow crops in antartica, IMHO.

These maps dont seem to take into account erosion as well as see level rise. Lots of remaining low level land would get washed away...

These maps are totally inaccurate. You all forget the USA asks for God's blessings all the time. He won't forget us, and will undoubtably cause elevated hilly regions to surround our entire coastline, protecting us and the holy American way of life.

God Bless America!

I'm sorry VRWC but God's help will have to come in the form of levees and sandbags if you want to be saved. ;)

Yeah, Spain's the second most mountainous country in Europe after Switzerland. Trouble is it's also very hot and dry, you'd probably end up with an unproductive desert covering Iberian Peninsula. And a lot of drowned Catalans.

Alternatively, the shutting down of the gulfstream would do weird things to the weather so Spain might end up with Scandinavian weather, really harsh winters, but still being the most temperate fringe of a Europe that resembled Siberia.

Cyprus being a small island is screwed ....
