Nothing personal guys (I'm speaking to the americans now) but come on, the game starts at 4000 BC and you've had an impact on the world history for what, a couple of hundred years at best? Do the math! You only recently broke free from England, historically speaking, whereas the european, asian, mediterranean, mideastern nations etc have shaped the world for thousands of years.
so wut? germany wasn't a country until the 1860s, much later than the us. in a couple of hundred years, the us has made an immeasureable impact on the world - good and bad - from wwi, helping save the world from the axis wwii, electricity, the lightbulb, automobile/mass production, countering the ussr in the cold war, starting the nuclear race, sending a man to the moon, the internet, etc. - sure, all of this may have happened eventaully, but the point is, it happened the way it did, the time it did b/c of the us. one can't disregard these incredible events just because they're more recent and shorter in span. as many have pointed out, that the us does exist in over half the game, from the industrial to modern eras - by ur standard, we shud take out the aztecs, babylonians, romans, since they didn't make it into the industrial or even medieval eras. the native americans didn't impact much of the world until the europeans came. even the european civs didn't impact the rest of the world until the late 15th century. and either way, this game will allow u to jump into different eras, instead of simply playing it from ancient times.

And your hardly a coherent civ to begin with. The whole nations is based on immigration. Nothing wrong with that, that's what's made america great today but doesn't that tell you something? My point is that your country is nothing more than the peoples of the world gathered under one flag, and hardly a "civ" in its own right. I mean you happen to have english as your official language today, but in a hundred years from now it might as well be spanish!
In conclusion, playing as America in Civ is just silly. Stepping on anyone's toes? And please don't reply that Sweden hasn't had any historical influence. You'd all be catholics if it weren't for us!![]()
to simply reduce america to just nothing more than people under a flag is missing ignoring the modern era - from wwii, the us became representative of western civilization - around the world today, the us is seen as the main symbol for "freedom" (tho the definition of that can vary), capitalism, materialism, modern technology, urbanization, etc. while the world stood at the brink of nuclear annihiliation, it was pretty much the us ("democracy" or "the free world") vs the ussr ("commmunism")
u mock english, but it's still the most prevalant and recognized language aroudn the world, on the internet, etc. b'sides, the language of europe is far different today than what it was a few hundred years ago
and honestly, if u're boasting that any civ can be modded in, then it really shudn't matter for u whether or not the us is including, since u can always change it or add another civ. if u dun like it, u dun have to play the us.
