ok, this looks promising. however, i´m not sure about the "best way" to conquer cities.

i mean, i´m stuck after a few turns in the invasion of poland (i guess that country shouldnt be that hard to conquer in the scenario?)

i was able to shot down the polish air force easily, so i started bombing the cities with my planes. but i don´t have enough bombers... so, bring on the artillery, right?
but this doesnt seem to have a big impact on the defenses... and all my infantry (with the exception of the waffen SS) look useless against city-defense positions.

i guess i´m doing something wrong here. maybe i´m not conducting the attack correctly? isnt bombers -> artillery -> infantry the right way to go?
or should i just be patient and keep on attacking? concentrate more troops on just one objective? dont scatter my troops?

i´d appreciate any kind of tip ;)
 
Poland is supposed to be devoured by you and Soviets in 5-6 turns (Balkan Axis also help by taking down 1 city). You usually split your Tanks between NW Poland and Krakow. Bombers focus on one city then on the other (if you are playing my PBEM adaptation you should have 3 extra bombers in Berlin, don't bother with original scenario, download our actual start from this thread). And your order is right -- Fighters, Bombers, Artillery, troops.

So yes, Poland should not be a biggie, just like in real life. Blitz in France requires more skills -- its possible against AI but with human Britain helping I am not even sure it is doable. If you want you can be Soviets and I will be Axis -- as I was playing them single player for quite some times now ;)
 
ok, for the time being i think that´s the way to go.
let me play the soviets as i dont feel ready for germany yet.

regarding the house rules, i have a doubt about this one:

12. No land crossing of Benelux, Spain and Turkey by any human player during OBs with those civs, while those countries stay neutral (not involved in any wars)

I assume OB is Opern Borders, correct? but... can i declare war on them? for instance, as the USSR, can i invade turkey or finland?
the house rules impose many restrictions on the 3 human players, but i´m not quite sure about the AI countries.
 
Historically Belgian declaration of neutrality significantly altered French defensive plans, since Belgians would not allow French troops in Belgium during the peace time. Unfortunately AI does not understand how to respect neutrality but we really should. So just like the rule says -- if USSR is at peace with Turkey they can Open Borders (OB) but no land units can cross Turkey's territory and suddenly appear in Bulgaria, you know :).

And, yes, when you are at war with Turkey -- there will be no Open Borders to begin with, and obviously you can do anything with them.

And of course you can declare on Finland, in fact you might want to do that. According to house rules, Russia cannot attack Germany before defeating Finland. Germany cannot attack Russia before defeating France. So we have a race for the ability to strike first! ;)

And also, notice, if Turkey is not really neutral and has a war with the third party -- let's say Spain, you do not have to respect neutrality.

In practice French AI will not respect Benelux's neutrality (we have no control over AI) but at least human Britain will respect. So Germany has to decide -- either to wage Phony War on German side of the German-Benelux borders, or declare on Wilhelmina and avoid all those complications.

P.S. I will double check with kiwitt and commence our Epic World War Two!

Can Paratroopers be airlifted, before parachuting into somewhere.
 
Only units like Western Allies Militants, Spies, Great People -- everything that realistically represent 1-2 people can fly across Atlantis or Europe, not Division sized units like Paratroopers. So, no.

Planes can re-base any way they want, though, no rules about them. Naval Convoys from Canada to UK, and Gibraltar-Malta-Alexandria are the only realistic way to resupply troops. As Germany I cannot even fly Africa Corps into Africa -- need to use that lonely transport in Rome.
 
Game has begun ... Renamed most of my main units.

I would like to make one slight additional House Rule. Italy can not declare War until Paris has fallen.
 
I actually agree with Paris, very historical and reasonable. If Russia is fine with that -- I am changing that rule as per kiwitt's suggestion.

Please, before you play, don't forget to erase any 1939 pbem save folder you might generated before. I forgot to do that and had to replay all my very first 1.5 hour long turn again! If game ever asks you to save over the existing file -- it will never work for the next player.

Warsaw has fallen. Gestapo was tasked with creating Warsaw ghetto. One German fighter was lost to British super fighter. I think it has supper in it's name... What does (F) means in the names of British ships?
 
Western allies ideas somehow reached New York and silly Roosevelt converted right away! Civilopedia says that Hitler hated Roosevelt more than Churchill or Stalin, which I find hard to believe -- could not find any rock solid source.

As a small compensation -- Fascist ideas got a warm reception in Denmark so Western Scandinavia converted as well. But not into Western Allies :mischief:

Germans lost another Me-109 fighter to British Hawks... Grrrr...

Brest-Litovsk was returned to Soviets.
Our AI Balkan Axis vassal apparently did not understand secret agreements about spheres of influence and carelessly annexed Tarnopol -- I have warned you, Stalin! :)
 
I have got one more slight House Rule revision:

If the USA has not joined the side of the Allies by the end of 1941 and declared war, Germany declares war of the USA on Week 1 of December 1941.

This is a historical fact as since we are playing on only one portion of the world, this reflects the Japan's bombing of Pearl Harbour on the other part of the world and Hitler's support of her unseen Ally Japan. Note: Italy would also need to declare war as well.
