Would anyone be intreseted in a NES that has to do with the Cold War from 1948 to 1990?
Setting would be the same as irh with all countires involved except for some minor ones. USA ans USSR may be NPCs...
I was going to include the UN as an actor and guarantee for treaties and Social Engeneering as in AC.
No magour wars can occur in this NES as a big war will turn into a ww3 and the end of human race, but small wars and wars by proxi are possible.
One of the main focuses will be on different nuclear weapons, their design, production and positioning affecting diplomacy. The other on technological advances that affect the military and the world (i.e. computers).

What are your thoughts?

You'd have to hvae a fairly unbiased mod to allow Communism the chance to win, but without overpowering them. But I'd like the diplomatic maneuverings. If I had time, I would join.

Why USA and USSR NPC? Just because they're super powers doesn't mean that they should not be allowed to play as. For one thing, it is very important to play carefully as them, or risk losing your superpower status. They are stronger than everybody else, but also are more difficult to play as.

Otherwise, good an idea. MAYBE, just MAYBE I will join. Not sure, though.

Thank you guys, please keep sharing the ideas.
Das good point, but I'm only considering it as it was done in RA NES.
Conehead234, my NES is going to be a little different. I'm planning to make it on the whole planet and wars are not to be the main issue (RA is essentially a wargame NES)i.e. it won't concentrate on the war mainly.

yes! diplomacy-based NES where you can't just go and blow everyone up! Honestly I try to play most games like this, and I think this will be aweome. Quick idea, what if you start it later? '48 is good, but think of the alternatives. Say modern day, eh? Nes as per mid-september 2004. Anyways, any NES where politics and diplomacy are more important than massive wars is awesome, and I am all for this idea

Chur ya zan nashih!

Agreed. Diplomacy plays far too little of a role in most.

cuase its boring to talk. Actions speak louder than words, and besides, whats better than a good 'ol fashioned war? Diplomatic relations? Ha, leave it to the girly men.

Sounds awesome, perhaps something like this?

yeah, I am working on a modern day NES, but it will be a while until its open, so I am looking forward to this if it works

I would definately join a 48 nes. And I personally like the USA-USSR Npc idea. Too many times in past cold war nes attempts, either the USSR or USA leader went totally nutso and screwed everything up. Like, converting to communism or invading china.

I'm In for this

Thank you all who want/may/will join! :D
I want to ask for your opinion on a coulpe of things. First on the economy: do you want it in GDP (i.e. money/units) or like in Storms NES (i.e. levels)? What of expenditures (stuff bought once and for all or constant upkeep(states NES))?
Social engennering (like in alpha centauri)?
Military (i.e. units, numbers etc.)?
Secret units (i.e. secret projetcs or troop movements)?
Espionage: should it be in? what effect should it have?
USSR and USA will have to be very experienced players (with some restrictions like no change of governemnt ;) ).
Apart from this, thank you and keep ot flowing :).

Dont make it so complicated that when the NES drags (and theres always a drag period in a long nes, like a lull), you dont feel motivated to update it.

Just add what you think will be manageable for the longterm.

Btw, I think that a world war should be possible. It will not necessarily be the "end of the human race", though. But I agree it should be based on diplomacy.

Arrgh! Stormbringer beat me to USSR. Oh well, maybe I'll find somebody else to play.

How will you handle the Warsaw Pact and stuff? I do have an idea for a puppet state system if you need it.

Please post/PM your idea.
I nearly finished my "simple" set of rules...
But ideas are still welcome..
Can you be Yugoslavia ;)?

Yeah, I was considering taking Yugoslavia now. Or maybe North Korea, or perhaps France if I get to coup the government (what can I say, being democracy never appealed to me).

Well, I mean that the puppeter state could give orders for the puppet state's army and everything else, but the puppet state might disagree. Puppet state's orders override the puppeter's orders, so if USSR orders Hungarian army to invade Yugoslavia and Hungarian player orders Hungarian army to invade Czechoslovakia instead, the army invades Czechoslovakia. I will be unable to formulate the rule for that until you post your rules.

Spasibo good idea!
I see that work with NPCs though as well as with PC (well with PCs it might work worse as everyone wants to be his/her own master).

A puppet state could always rebel. What comes of it... well, its a different story.
