2.0 grams - The Whip and Saddle (C3C)

The more I think about this and look at the save I'm feeling we should hold on Monty and wait until Chivalry to take him/her <snip>
Referring to Monty as him/her? Did Bede find you a leaderhead mod to go with his cute little advisors? Or are you about to finally give us the briefing on your "civ drinking rules"?

I like the idea of holding on Monty too, but will Monty hold on us? Now that's the question.

Pults? I don't think we can build them per varient rules.

Actually I don't drink anymore. Or any less for that matter. The only reason I started with the loose set of rules is because I used to sit down with one beer and then after 2-3 hours of play I realize that I still have 3/4's of the beer left. There is not any set of drinking rules that I follow a script to. When I play GOTM though it is usally late Friday, Saturday night after drinking. Then armed with a bottle of Crown Royal and a fridge full of beer I play. I make them up as I go along but having war declared is definately a shot. Losing a city is a full swig from the bottle. Building a wonder earns a leisurely beer. A city riot is a beer shot as is any unit loss.
I call Monty a she because he looks like a girl.
Forgot about the NO PULTS. Guess it is be nice to monty time. We can deal/gift a couple gpt to keep him off our back.

:rotfl: That was great!

Is that before, or after declaring war/losing a unit/losing a city/building a wonder? :lol:

those are some thick beer-goggles :lol:

as far as attacking "him", he has 2 sources of iron and at least 1 horse so we can count on more swords & horses. waiting is ok if you don't feel we're ready. build more galleys and make some new friends. just be ready to take on knights as well as mdi's later as we won't be the 1st to chivalry.

We may not be the first to chivalry but with research turned off we should be able to build about a 1200g-1600g warchest. If we snag leo's thats 20-27knights right out of the gate that we can knock the capital off with.

2gram-550bc

Preturn – We have 5 spears and 15 towns with an active settler. So we can build 11 more spears. They may be needed. We only have 1 galley and a curraugh for looking for neighbors. Looks like the GL is in the bag and I’ll be dealing lit later. The only things I would want to trade is tech for cash. I want a huge bank and more contacts.

IT – Shanghai-Horse>Lib
[1] 530BC – Not much. Prepping to send the curraugh East away from Korea on a suicide. I give Mongols math for 51g . Pompeii resistor goes back to work. Plant Shantung where Settler is on river and set to Rax.
IT – Nada
[2] 510bc – Workers working. Curraugh goes N still.
IT –Bejing-Horse>Library, Chengdu-Horse>Library, Canton-Horse>Horse
[3] 490bc- Curraugh hits a NE bend in Korea. A little further up. The philo build jumped a turn so I slow it down to get 18gpt.
IT – Tsingtao-Wrk>Wrk
[4] 470bc – Send spices to Carthage to make him polite for 79g. Dinky going NE. Could there be a sea passage?
IT – Veii and Hangchow-Spear>Spear. Aztec Texcoco completes MoM.
[5] 450bc – Not much. Clearing jungle and mining tiles.
IT – Aztecs building Artimis
[6] 430BC – Canton went to 7spt so I swapped it to Library and put Chengdu on Horse.
IT – Nada
[7] 410BC – Well time to deal Lit for what it is worth. Korea gives all 31g and CoL. Tight wad Monty won’t deal any monopolies for all our cash.
IT – Nanking – GREAT LIBRARY-Temple, Chengdu-Horse> Library.
[8] 390BC – Hangchow swaps to temple to counter the growth and gets a single scientist with science going to 0%. I also gift both Korea and Carthage 60g each and sell them Philo for all there cash. They are both Polite and can now research Republic for us.
IT - Sugar Hill-Temple as it grows to 7>Court. Shantung-Rax>Spear.
[9] 370BC – Working and I merge a worker into Nanking to drop temple to 5. Thinking about swapping to Lib but I’m thinking temple>Harbor>Lib>Market. Drop lux to 30% and make +45gpt with 778 in the bank. I also give Monty 2gpt.
IT – Damn, Antium riots and gets a taxman. Aztecs complete great wall.
[10] 350BC – Looks like Dinky is ready to set sail. It is a far East as it can get. Galley is headed north past a Carthage island.

I think we are sitting pretty as long as the Aztecs lay-off. Libraries will come on line soon and hopefully Republic too. We may have over 2000g in the bank for upgrade when the time comes.

Oh, I wouldn't worry about that. I'm sure 'slinger will be warring soon enough. I'm actually more than a little pleased that I didn't have to wait for the Industrial Era to get some warring in this SG. The first SG I was in with Barbslinger all I got to do was play whack-a-barb until we had rails. (And all the lands of 2 AI.)

@ Misfit. Wish I was enjoying a leisurely beer right now. I only do that, "usually", when playing GOTM or personal games. A few games where there was no pressure I would toss back a few though. The week is filled with work mostly. However, check back with me tomorrow and my posts may be a little slurred.

Okay. Got it. Looks like I'll be keeping to the plan. Build up the treasury, keep searching for contacts, build up some infrastructure, build more spears and horses, and, oh yeah, continue keeping Monty wonder building. And since we are relatively stable at the moment, I presume we should be looking to revolt to Republic as soon as possible. Not too much to think about. ;)

Is the team still in agreement to settle on those gold hills? At least one more city down there would likely make sense. I'll probably try to pull off another settler to move down there.

Expect the post likely by tomorrow evening, but I might be able to sneak this one in tonight.

I'm not sure we really discussed it. Gozpel likes it (obviously - his idea). I included them in a dotmap... but I don't really know if we discussed future settling plans enough to call it a consensus.

Aztecs have (at least) 11 cities, we have 15. My $0.02, I wouldn't mind a few more towns if they can be made productive. We probably ought to build a FP somewhere to increase the OCN.

Taking stock early...
Aztecs have 15 cities - one on the small horse island to our south and others on land masses north and east. We have 19 turns on gifting them 2gpt. Up at least Poly, Currency, Republic, and Construction. And they are a Republic. Geesh. One scary civ to our north.
Mongols have only 6 cities and are behind Phil, CoL, Lit, and Map M. And lack horses. Despot.
Carthage has 9 cities, lacks horses, are equal tech wise. Oh, and are disdainful of our culture! Despot. We're giving spices for 14 turns.
Korea has 14 cities, has incense and silk, lacks horses and spices.They are our tech equals as well. And a despot.

Us 16 cities, currency due in 48 turns, lone sci in Hangchow. We're straddling the line on happiness with 30% lux, pulling in 46gpt with 821 in the bank. Many libraries and temples on order. We're considered weak to the Aztec and Mongol(?) armies, average to Carthage and Strong to Korea. Its pretty easy to tell where each civs priorities lie.
We have 27 horse, 8 spear and 8 warriors. And only 9 workers. GL won't due us a lot of good unless one of the other AI starts learning. Aztecs are over on Korea's continent it seems, so maybe...

Goals - Keep Aztecs off our back. Keep exploring. Build markets, temples or libraries. And some spears for D.

[0] 350BC
MM Beijing to pull in 1 extra gold, free mine for Chengdu. Still gets 10spt. Chegdu MM'd to cut a turn off library. Move horse from Beijing to Chengdu for happiness. MM Rome for more gold. We're clearing a lot of march and jungle (needed), but we could use some mines as well.

Okay, lets get the show on the road...

IBT
Beijing library -> spear in 2
Antium order restored.

[1] 330BC
Continue exploring.
Carthage has Construction now. We should pick it up in the inter-turn.

IBT
The Great Library produces a textbook - "How to Build Walls". Oooh. Construction.
Rome spear -> worker

[2] 310BC
Roman spear head to Neapolis to MP upon growth.
Workers start mining, including irrigated BG at Veii. We need the shields.
Move to mine hill north of Sugar Hill for shields.

IBT
Watch Carthage settler on NE island. Aztecs land settler pair as well.
Beijing spear -> settler

[3] 290BC
More mines.

IBT
AI race to settle location - Korea lands as well, but Carthage settles the city.
Shanghai Lib-> worker
Canton Lib-> Aqueduct (for the defense of the larger city)
Nanking Temple -> galley
Tsingtao worker->worker

[4] 270BC
Boats sailing, workers working.

IBT
Veii Spear->libary
Shantung spear-> horse

[5] 250BC
Nothing new.
A bit more jungle cleared, mining.
Need to be thinking about FP - Hangchow? Not much production and lots of marshes. But a decent spot empire wise. Has temple due in 5, so wait until then.

IBT
Rome worker -> temple
Beijing settler -> horse
Shanghai worker -> courthouse
Tientsin temple -> rax

[6] 230BC
Workers continue mining, boats floating.

IBT
Nanking galley->spear
Neapolis spear->courthouse

[7] 210BC
same old.

IBT
Temujin decides he wants Map Making and figures we are the nation to gift it to him. Temujin figures incorrectly as they aren't a threat at the moment. Temujin sulks, but leaves.

[8] 190BC
Yup. You guessed it.

IBT
Aztecs shuffle swords around a bit.
Beijing horse->horse
Nanking spear->Aqueduct
Chengdu Lib->Aqueduct
Aztecs start Sun Tzu
Incans complete Temple of Artemis

[9] 170BC
We settle Chinan on the western gold hill.
Send new spear to Canton.
Still no new AI techs, of course we don't know what the Aztecs are learning.

IBT
Aztecs cities have some pikes now.
Hangchow -> Forbidden Palace (due in 40!)
Tatung harbor -> Rax
Friendly reminder the Aztecs are building Sun Tzu.
America completes the Hanging Gardens, Incans complete Statue of Zeus.

[10] 150BC
More boat movement. More land improvements.

Summary I started on the Forbidden Palace for easy veto. Hangchow cannot grow beyond 6 unless there is a 'duct. FP will take 40 to build currently. I only built a few more horses, but we have 13 spears now. Some cities are getting ducts. The Aztecs are running away in the tech race and our remaining neighbors aren't researching very fast to help us out.

nice job spikeit. glad to see the glib produced something during your turns. maybe we need to consider a massive galley production campaign to make sure we meet everyone as quickly as possible.

gozpel is UP (swap desired?)
scout is on deck.

Yes, we need some suicides heading west. What happened to the dinky I had poised to sail East. Did he continues around the Korean continent? Looked like more Korea/Carthage and Aztecs that way. I like the galley idea. We need contacts and get to chiv quick. Is the upgrade kitty growing? We should have well over 1000g by now.

Yep, I believe we were definitely over 1000 g at the end of my turns. The dinky and the galley didn't get a chance to find something new. The dinky was way up the north Korean coast with nothing revealed. I was moving him south to head for an east suicide from the Carthage mainland. The galley wandered around the island between us/Aztecs and the Korean mainland, revealing it for the rat race it is. That galley continues east to also suicide off of Korea. A third galley is heading south toward Mongolia, but could be diverted west to suicide. I was thinking of jumping to the southern landmass off of the eastern coast of Mongolia, which is likely another Byz island. But there may be coast beyond that? Anyhow, nothing found in my 10 turns.

Got an evening class relocated to another campus, so I had to hurry this game. Wish I could've pop-rushed. :crazyeye:

Pre-turn - everything is in order, no changes.

130bc - Shantung horse -> horse

110bc - Beijing horse -> settler
Pompeii harbor -> worker
Tientsin barracks -> settler

90bc - We learn Polytheism from GLib

Sugar Hill Court -> library

70bc - Tsingtao worker -> worker

50bc - Accidently sank a curragh

Beijing settler -> horse

30bc - We learn Currency and are in Middle ages.

Send galley on suicide run.

10bc - Galley sinks

Tatung barracks -> galley
Shantung horse -> horse

10AD - Aztecs demand 99g, no problems

Canton aqueduct -> temple
Nanking aqueduct -> market

Kaifeng founded -> worker

30AD - Shanghai court -> worker
Beijing horse -> market
Tsingtao worker -> court
Tientsin settler -> library

After sinking 2 boats, I finally find new borders with a galley

50AD - Tatung worker -> temple

We meet the Celts and will learn Monarchy next turn.

More galleys to meet more civs, I forgot to work on that.

That must be my most pathetic turns in a long time, with 2 boats sent to the bottom of the sea and nothing else :)
