2006/2007 College Basketball Thread

Jeez, two overrated teams argueing about who's more overrated ;)

Florida is still better than UNC or Ohio State or Wisconsin, and it will show in the tournament. Can't really blame them for dropping a game they have little motivation for, considering they have already won thier conference.

Number 1 seeds are looking like OSU, Kansas, Memphis, and maybe Wisconsin right now. One of those years you could finally see an upset in the 16 vs. 1 matchup...

FU has dropped *2* games to teams it should have smacked around. Ohio State has yet to drop an easy game...they lost to UNC, Florida and Wisky. No bad losses there.

I dont see this team cutting down the nets in March, but they're still a good basketball squad...'specially if they're feeling it from 3.

I-O!!!!

As long as florida wins it's tourney it'll be a one seed.

They should be a number 1 seed regardless of its tournament results. They're a great team that's lost a couple of bad games at a crucial point.

The number 1 seeds should be: Ohio State, UCLA, Florida, and the last one should go to (no particular order):

A. Wisconsin
B. North Carolina
C. Kansas
D. Memphis

Memphis hasn't lost since...umm, I can't remember. They will probably win the C-USA Tourny and that will get them in. Whether they are the 4th or 3rd best team in the nation or not.

Should they get a one seed, yes. But the tourney committee may not see it that way, as you said, they had a couple of bad games at a crucial point. If that continues and they lose to someone they shouldn't in the SEC tourney then the committee might feel that they've 'peaked' already and are no longer one seed material, as it is a fine line between the teams. So as long as they take care of business (and don't lose to Tennessee this week), they'll be a one seed.

As far as the last one seed goes, you forgot to add Texas A&M to the one seed candidates. They have an identical record as Kansas and also beat them earlier this month AT the Phog. They are the favorites going into the Big 12 tourney.

Hey, Alabama beat Ole Miss. So now do they get in the tournament? Or do they need to beat Miss. State this weekend as well? Or can they not get in regardless. I guess what I'm really asking is whether another West team has a better shot at getting in than we do . . .

Alabama is barely ranked at this point right? I would think they need to beat Mississippi State and have a good showing in the SEC tournament.

Bracketology has them as the 6th team out I think. They have work to do in the SEC tournament, or hope for lots of upsets.

A GT win would hit the spot right about now...

I think the two of you missed the post where I mentioned that I don't know anything about basketball. It's a sixty-five team tournament, right? With only twenty-five ranked teams, what does being ranked have to do with it?

Also, what does '6th team out' mean? Does it mean that we're 71st in line for a spot, or does it mean that there are five SEC teams that would get in ahead of us, or does it mean that only five SEC teams will go and we're sixth, so we won't?

I think he means that they are sixth team out of the tournament, which means if it started today...they wouldn't be in it.

The ranking is USUALLY a good indication of a team making the tournament, but Alabama has been vastly overrated in the polls all year long so it probably is not in this case.

I think they need to reach the third round or so. And hope other teams lose. Just watch selection sunday, it's on CBS :p

On another note...Texas plays the most exciting games of anyone in the country! They are HOT right now, but I expect a letdown in the Big 12 tournament. If we make it to the final there, I'm calling Final Four :D

I hate living near UMD. Everyone here is talking about how "great they are." Well, I'm going to show you a recent post on a local sports forum:

Me said:
Wow, A number 1 seed? For a team that has lost 7 games this season, including to games versus Miami at home, Notre Dame at home, and a slow start in the ACC. The tournament isn't for rewarding teams that are hot, it's for their total season acheivments. If they win the ACC Tournament, they'll get a 3 seed, no higher. You gotta consider the 1 and 2, and even 3 seeds are basically filled by 12 teams already (Ohio State, UCLA, Kansas, Florida, Wisconsin, Memphis, Texas A&M, UNC Georgetown, Pitt, Washington State, Nevada, Southern Illinois, and Texas should also receive consideration.) Maryland is getting way too much props for beating a below average Duke team twice, a North Carolina team that is 4-4 in their last 8 games, NC State, Clemson, and Florida State. Come back to this reply when Maryland beats a team at the top of their game, because they haven't done that once this season.

What do you think of this reply? (BTW, this site is a lot more personal, and attacks are more welcome. ;))

Your right. The ACC is overrated by ESPN and the pundits IMO, it's not as good as in past years. If UNC doesn't win the ACC tourny, they likely will have no number 1 seeds. Duke has no NBA talent on it, VaTech and Virginia are arguably the best teams and a mediocre Maryland team is making a run.

OVER-RATED!! *CHA CHA CHACHACHA*

This Maryland fan base annoys me a lot. I was almost rooting for Duke over them because I'm tired of people talking about how great they are.

Yeah, those stupid terps fans bugged the hell out of me too. Them and Gerogetown *shakes fist*.

People are seriously saying Maryland should get a 1 seed? I was thinking more like 5 or 6....

So is everyone in the country. And I just saw a guy argue that their quality wins (besides North Carolina and Duke) are Notre Dame, Illinois, (wait here is where it gets good) Vermont, St. Johns, Clemson, and Fordham.
