2014-15 NFL Pick'em Funtimes

You sunova, you scooped my thread!

But I'm fine doing it dt-style: 1 pt for picking the winner + 1 point for picking the correct spread. Unless that created a really bad or unbalanced system for the NCAA pick'em last year.

i guess it'll be better in the nfl. i'm just thinking of games in cawlej football where the line is -25 or something, so part about picking the winner is kinda a wash. but since nfl games are much closer, it'll be more fun.

also if you wanna run it go ahead :p

I am down to clown.

For fun, I am going to ceremoniously make the first prediction of the thread:

Buffalo Bills OVER New York Giants
Buffalo Bills COVER the spread

Yes, pick-em.

I never done a pick'em. How does it work. Just pick who wins.

based on the spread, yea.

NYG v. BUF (BUF -3) means that buffalo is favored by three points. if you think buffalo is gonna win by more than three points, you would pick them to "cover the spread". otherwise, if you think the bills will win by fewer than 3 points, or if the giants will win, you would pick NYG +3.

no pushes cuz pushes are for little girls.

Are we going to actually do the preseason for keepsies or are we just doing these for proof of concept?

Bills to cover by a lot.

Ok so with Thursday's end the preseason is officially over. Let the inaugural NFL pick'em funtimes commence! As has been discussed previously in the thread we're going to be doing picks against the spread rather than a straight pick'em. Every Tuesday I will be post the spreads for the weeks' games, per the Las Vegas Hotel. For those of you who don't know how spreads work, I post a line: for example Green Bay @ Seattle, Seattle by 5. If you think that Seattle will beat Green Bay by at least 5 points then you say Seattle covers, if you think that Seattle will win, but by fewer than 5 points then you say Seattle does not cover, and if you think Green Bay will win then you say Green Bay wins outright. At the end of the week I will tally the picks and post the current points values. A correct prediction of the winner is worth 1 point, and getting the spread right is worth an extra point. Everyone is free to play as much or as little as they want, just make sure the picks are made before the game's kickoff.

Ok, your week 1 spreads ladies and gentlemen, per covers.com. I'm using the spreads from the Las Vegas Hotel, which is the far right column:
