2nd unique unit for sevomod2.9e

Cool: will check it out.

Sevo 3.0 should be out soon as well, apparently. (Hopefully, there won't be any conflicts.)

Cool. That was quick.

What I noticed upon a cursory glance running through a few turns:

I think you should recommend in the opening post to make a copy of the whole "Sevomod" mod folder, renaming it something like "Sevomod 2UU" and overwriting that file from there. I think most people probably don't save the Sevomod .zip files, so switching back and forth, especially with new versions available, could prove troublesome without this step. (This probably should be self-evident, but based on the number of posts asking for fixes in the main thread that have already been patched weeks ago attests to our limited user tech-savvy.)

Possible bugs:
The Japanese zero currently shows up as a red dot:

The unit works/"flies" correctly/without crashing, though just as a red dot; I'm not sure where the problem lies, either in art or xml.

A matter of personal taste (and possibly beating a dead horse):
Currently, David works with the new version. But his leaderhead is now static, the same picture as his button, and uses (I think) Bismarck's background:

I'm not sure if you did the art/animations in the David art folder, but it's a shame to go to waste.

In Assets/XML/Art/CIV4ArtDefines_Leaderhead.xml, currently there is:
Code:
		<LeaderheadArtInfo>
			<Type>ART_DEF_LEADER_David</Type>
			<Button>,Art/interface/LeaderHeads/btn_lh_ISRAEL_David.dds</Button>
			<NIF>art/LeaderHeads/David/David.dds</NIF>
			<KFM>art/LeaderHeads/Mao/Mao_tse_tung.kfm</KFM>
			<NoShaderNIF>art/LeaderHeads/Mao/mao_tse_tung_noshader.nif</NoShaderNIF>
			<BackgroundKFM>art/LeaderHeads/Bismarck/bismarck_bg.kfm</BackgroundKFM>
        </LeaderheadArtInfo>

If, using the files already located in Assets\Art\leaderheads\David, those lines are changed to:
Code:
		<LeaderheadArtInfo>
			<Type>ART_DEF_LEADER_David</Type>
			<Button>Art/interface/leaderHeads/btn_lh_ISRAEL_David.dds</Button>
			<NIF>art/LeaderHeads/David/cyrus.nif</NIF>
			<KFM>art/LeaderHeads/David/cyrus.kfm</KFM>
			<NoShaderNIF>art/LeaderHeads/David/cyrus_noshader.nif</NoShaderNIF>
			<BackgroundKFM>art/LeaderHeads/David/cyrus_BG.kfm</BackgroundKFM>
		</LeaderheadArtInfo>

one gets an animated David leaderhead based on Cyrus, but now with a black crown, what looks like (not sure) a unique background, and with (sweet touch) Stars of David on a blue robe.

Captures of the suggested version:

Again, as a matter of taste, your call.

Last, I agree with your readme that the Arab unique unit "Al Quida" is in poor taste, whatever one's nationality. I think renaming it "Fedayeen" (different English spellings possible) would be more appropriate for what appears to be a highly adaptable Arab paramilitary unit. Different versions of fedayeen militia helped defeat the USSR in Afghanistan in the 80s, and offered (actually still offer) the stiffest resistance against the US in Iraq. Or, even "jihadist" would be more appropriate, if you wanted to keep a religious aspect.

Overall, very good job and quick turnaround on patching. If I notice anything else playing through a longer game I'll let you know.

Oh yeah, here's the unit list from the readme for the earlier poster:

hi sweetpete ,
you right - ill do a more detailed install notes, good that you had a backup.
i suggest do like this:
1. first uzip my addon
2. make a backup of sevomod
3. delete the folder art/units in the sevomod folder.
4. now, copy the whole addon assets over sevomod assets and overwrite the entire files.

this should be it.

id love for some more replies :)

ill do my best to post an update topay for the current suggestioms/fixes.

Hiya Keldath. Thankee for posting the info about fixing the galleon prob. I deleted all the new references and it works fine.
Great work on the 2UU mod its a great addition. Thank you for all your time and work in putting it together.
Also thanks to Aghast for steering me in the right direction when I first encounterd the error.

Hiya Keldath. I'm not entirely sure this is a result of your mod, but I think so. Frigates can no longer be built when you research Textiles, they default to Ships of the Line. Not a big problem except SoL's can't bombard.
I'm going to set-up an install with your mod and one without and check for sure, I'll post the results.

That could easily be a mistake. I don't know much about this either; I can't program in either python or xml. My skills are limited to compare & contrast and copy & paste; however, at least with regard to the david file, my suggested change seems to work allright. (Whoever designed the David art did a good job.)

I misspoke about fedayeen (defined) in the Afghan resistance against the USSR. I conflated the term with mujahadeen (defined). Since the current "Al Quida" unit is a soldier with bonuses against armor, and given that both "fedayeen" and "mujahideen" imply loosely organized but highly effective militias armed with small arms and guerilla tactics against superior forces, I think either would be appropriate. I'd lean toward "mujahideen," but, if Wikipedia is to be believed, the "fedayeen" entry taught me that the term "assassin" derives from "those who habitually smoke hashish." That has to be worth a few style points. Either way: anything but "Al Quida." (Painting all of "Arabia" with "Al Quida" units is as offensive as the original Civ gamebook description of Indians' intelligent design for hard labor: "remarkably sturdy and hardworking. Their compact, wiry frames can stand up to...")

Sure: the cherokee_brave thing was an easy tipoff. On the other hand, I never would have guessed that the galleon was the problem. Good catch.

hi Helamau
thanks - its my pleasure to do this mod - i barley play it myself :)

about the ship of the line - im not sure - i didnt change anything with it or the frigate - but tell me what the results where and ill change or fix it - to your liking.
p.s.
plz tell me - how far did you play? and with which nation?

hi aghast !

well - about the zero fighter of japan -i think im on to the problem - ill fix it unitl later this day.
then it is satlled - al qiuda - will be changed to Mujahadeen its a good choise - my intension was to give arabia an infantry unit - which strong vs armored and advanced units as you said.
i say the reffernce -thanks.

oh and yeah assassin and hashish - i leant that in school ages ago fro some reason...

so plz let me know how your game is going - and if there is more alterations needed to be done for the units :)

The T-34 is better than the Panzer tanks until the Panther (Panzer V) was produced as its counter. I suggest either:
1. the same stats as the Panzer
2. a greater attack value against the Panzer
3. 1 or 2 strength over the Panzer and Blitz
4. a change in the Panzer special ability to give a -N% attack to the T-34

Hiya Keldath. I didnt find any relation to the bombard (Ships of the Line)quirk stemming from any of your work. I don't really know why it cvhanged, one day they could bombard, then they could'nt. I really need to just quit my job and get down to some serious investigating :) Have a great day!

Just my 2 cents. Bonuses for the T-34 should'nt be just panzer specific. When it was deployed it was superior to everything out there. Its armor was thick and sloped, a powerfull gun, and wide tracks for better off road movement. But most important... numbers. While the Germans were producing Tiger/Panthers at 25/50 a month, the Soviets were producing 1000/month.
Might I suggest:
Same stats as Panzer plus Mobility I, First Strike and lower production cost. I may underestimate the power of First strike in the game but I think it would reflect the qualitative edge of the T-34's gun/sloped armor. The Mobility addresses the T-34's vastly superior off-road capability. Hopefully these would portray real world abilities without crossing into a higher base strength which IMHO would diminish the power of Modern Armor.

hey Helamau

yeah i thogut so too... well dont quit your job!!!!

tell ya the truth sometimes i feel like staying home - and mod ....

anyway im posting a new thread today - it includes my mod combined with gir'r mod - check his thread to see the changes -he did some cool work!

The Tiger was also far superior to the T-34.
When upgraded the panzer 4 was the equal of the t-34, however it was superior due to better command and doctrine.
The Panzer is a collective unit for all German tanks, surely the idea behind the T-34 is it is the collective unit for all Russian tanks?
This being the case the Panzer should be superior due to better leadership and doctrine.
