forbidden to talk to the Soviet political leadership.

It has to do with the term "Soviet Political Leadership".

Can it be that he didn't talk to "Stalin the political leader of the Soviet" but to "Stalin, commander of the red-army" or something else. ??

stalin wasnt political... well he was but he was also the Commader in chief of the military, he was more military than political ( he almost always wore a uniform). again, im just guessing.

Rik got it first. Stalin was "appointed" Marshal of the Soviet Union
in 1944, and was "appointed" to the military post of Commander in Chief. Since Eisenhower *was* authorized to communicate directly with his counterpart in the
Soviet military, he wrote to Marshal Stalin, not General Secretary Stalin.

i know King George DESPISED haveing his trousers creased and well look in the pic, they arent creased.very little insignia to give the uniform away, but it looks alot like a ww2 era british officers cap.
