wasnt that so that the russians would be first to reach Berlin... didnt he set it that way with Stalin to like make sure. Im kinda guessing here, but what else was happening in 45?

No to all. Hint : It was a loophole involving who he could and
could not talk to in Moscow.

did it have anything to do with the German nuclear production? I know that the russians wanted to get there before the allies to get thier hands on that info... and the secret police were involved.. but this is a real stumper

No, I am not asking *why* he communicated with Stalin, but
how he got around getting in trouble for doing so when he was
forbidden to talk to the Soviet political leadership.

stalin wasnt political... well he was but he was also the Commader in chief of the military, he was more military than political ( he almost always wore a uniform). again, im just guessing.

Rik got it first. Stalin was "appointed" Marshal of the Soviet Union
in 1944, and was "appointed" to the military post of Commander in Chief. Since Eisenhower *was* authorized to communicate directly with his counterpart in the
Soviet military, he wrote to Marshal Stalin, not General Secretary Stalin.

Your question, Rik

isnt that the Russian T38?

or could it be the british Cruiser Mark 3... looks to me like King George walking there.

i know King George DESPISED haveing his trousers creased and well look in the pic, they arent creased.very little insignia to give the uniform away, but it looks alot like a ww2 era british officers cap.
