Retire at turn 149

Spoiler t149 :

20230901215328_1.jpg

I realised I am just forcing myself to slog through this game, as it is not enjoyable at all. There is nothing to do, and every turn or every two turns there is a major flood / catasthrophic exlplosion, plundering 3-4 districts, destroying 5 tiles and killing 3 population. It is interesing how at one time I loved the game mods, but now I simply cannot stand them, both because how random in nature they are and how they trivilaize the games.

Oh well, not my cup of tea, probably could have ended it in another couple dozen turns but the constant need of repairing everything in my empire is just sucking the life out of me ;)

Thanks for the game anyway, the leader is definitely interesting!

T394 (1974) Science victory (2303 points)

Well, thank you for this game! I liked it a lot. I payed in dramatic ages a long time ago, so at first it was a bit strange to get used to it, and the disasters made my life quite problematic, at the beginning.
As I knew Sejong has a strong scientific advantage I concentrated on that, but also heavily developed religion and the sources for production and money. For religion, my usual favourites (Tithe (+3 gold per city following) and Religious Colonisation) were very helpful, as I converted my neighbour (England) in the beginning, and whenever they settled that was +3 gold for my accounts :)
The barbarians (especially the sea-going kind) were quite a problem - I have lost my third city due to those barbarian galleys, as it was undefended on the coast before the building of city walls and my first archer.
After walls and archers, cities on the coast were safe :)

I had no wars, except towards the end with China, which had only one city as they lost most of the cities, due to Dark ages. Same went with Norway (erased themselves in a Dark age) and with England. So the continent was mine to take, but I preferred peace, so I had alliance with England for a long time.

Kongo was the most dangerous opponent, regarding science, but with the Research Labs and with the conquered cities (from China, Norway) I had a better position. Especially that by the space exploration time, my core cities were well established, with high production. As I was also in alliance with Kongo for a long time I did not have to worry for enemy spies disrupting rocketry or production. Also Governor Liang with the proper promotions helped my to withstand the constant storms and other catastrophes.

I managed to be in golden age in all ages, so I had no loyalty problems.

Two saves are attached, one (T393) is just from the turn before the victory, and the other (T358) when the Mars Colony ship was launched - from that point (in case you wish) can make a faster win, but I took my time to conquer most of the continent. Also you will see in the attached pictures the whole map and other stats.

Be careful with the saves - playing them might influence your personal stats!

Thank you for this GoTM edition!

Turn 360 1940 AD 2232
It was a normal game for me as I usually play with dramatic mode and I managed to stay in golden age all but the Industrial era
No wars except winning back my cities or others that had been done
I played the sacrifices a couple times, but my heart wasn't in it, and really enjoy somehow repairing everything, even my suzeran city states

I constantly spied on, and even converted the English to Taoism

Pretty Fun

Turn 263 Science Victory

My initial city planning got thrown off when I remembered that seowons need hills (though fortunately I realized that early on). I wanted to make my city to the southwest of the start a big amazing science mecca with a mercury corp and Etemenanki and Pingala but it ended up getting absolutely slammed with blizzards throughout the game--probably the most destructive I've faced in any Civ 6 game. So instead I took the army I'd built up against the barbs and took out my anger on the British, eventually conquering 3/4ths of the continent and leaving only China as a trading partner. Also, I had enough of a faith focus that I could use Moksha to buy two spaceports. The final exoplanet push was less of a slog that I'm used to it being.

In terms of the crazy mix of game modes:
Barb clans: Not much to say, just some cheap troops early and more city-states later on
Shuffle: Not much impact, except masonry was in an inconvenient spot when I wanted to clear stone early on.
Secret Societies: Went Owls of Minerva and mainly benefited from the extra envoys.
Heroes: Got Maui first, who put down sugar only for me to remember plantations don't benefit from seowons like farms do (certainly a Dwayne Johnson Maui moment). Sinbad was hugely helpful the same way he always is for mid-game gold. Also got Himiko for envoy overkill. Never revived any of them.
Monopolies: Had a ton from conquering all of Britain. As I said, my plans for a big mercury-fueled science city were somewhat quashed by blizzards. I could've done more with product development.
Dramatic Ages: Was golden the whole way through. The one policy that adds gold yields to campuses was the big MVP. The mode also synched well with the wildcard slots I got from Owls of Minerva and Forbidden City.
Apocalypse: The big disruptive factor, but only through the regular disasters since the end times never started. Didn't use any soothsayers.

I enjoyed seeing what happens when so many modes are on at least once. Of course, the AI not knowing how to use most of them meant they were close to irrelevant once I really got going. Kind of surprised it wasn't more overwhelming. I'm sure there's some silver bullet strategy for a record-breaking science victory will all those modes on...if it doesn't get derailed by disasters.

Turn 175 SV

Spoiler Endgame :
20230907080333_1.jpg

My plan was going void singers with heavy faith focus I Found Herc early and went Desert folklore, was rdy to build herc in the cap when the game threw me a curve ball, I found Sindbad, I had just placed my 2nd city coastal next to the sugar and I had my two warrior both in a barb camp, instead of destroying them I took the money and bougth a monument in the coastal city and rushed Sinbad, that was a _Big Game breaker cos it was a Perfect Sinbad, 1 of the camps i took money from was next to sindbads starting city and within 12 turns I had used all his charges and went scouting for the other continent

Other than that i was pretty lucky with disaters nothing happend to the Cap, i had left 4 Tribal villages on the island between the two continent and i hit jackpot on turn 151 where I got rocketry and nuclear fission boost I was on the wrong path to rocketry and that helped me save 5-6 turns

I had two good CS spawning the entire game Chingetti and Hongkong but no Scientific cs , but i gues Chengetti was the best that could have happend gos rigth after I started focus on Traderoutes and my faith went up

I did wipe All the AI out which prompted a Dom victory despite it was turned off

The game had a very diffrent setup from the games im used to play, im not as fan of apocaplypse and tech and suffle mode especially tech and suffle both the research and civic tree was super bad in this game, it was close to turn 70 before i got PP there was quite a few bottle necks

despite it all I had fun thx for the map and keep up the good work with these Gotm

After a hundred turns I think I'm in the same boat. I've beaten Apocalypse mode before but I'm just not in the mood to deal with this.

SV-240 settled in place .Peaceful game and very frustrating with the sand storms that destroyed my cap many time,
I beeline the great bath before settling any new cities .Used Hercules 3 time making sure to resurrect him in time for 3 spaceport,
Owl ,of Minerva and Goddess of the reeds for my fire cities north.
Got Sinbad also the was great to scout the rest of the map and killed the barbs navy while making gold
Got the first religion with Stonehenge in my cap.
I spammed wonders in my cap: Great Bath-Stonehenge-Great Pyramid-Great Library-University of Sankore-Forbidden City -Rurh and Oxford :with the card that gave negative loyalty to city within 9 turn I even flipped a CS
By the end of the game I had flipped most of the cities on my continent.
Lost many turn in the tech tree to find the final space project.
Not the usual game, frustrating for my cap but still enjoyable
Thanks for the game

SV, turn 215/216

Frustrating game in the beginning. Kept discovering Heroes I didn't want- Hercules is so important in a science game that I ended up doing Heroic Tales 4 times just to discover him. That's 19 turns of production from my cap city in the Ancient that could have been better spent with a little better RNG. Oh well. Ended up taking Herc, Beowulf (very useful for killing Heroes of other civs), Himiko, Sinbad and the Twins.

Beyond that went with Voidsingers for a Desert Folklore/Work Ethic/Faith based game, which is always my preferred route if available.

The disasters were quite annoying. Of course if you stay in Monumentality the whole time it's easy to get builders to repair tiles; it's annoying but not too much of a setback to have to repair districts; but the population losses are really debilitating, as it sets you back a lot in terms of building out new districts. I realized I better place districts as soon as possible, even if I don't finish them, for that reason.

Too bad no zombies. They've been nerfed so they're just a nuisance now, but they were the one game mechanic that represented a real obstacle even on Prince level. Would've been a wilder game with every mode activated!

Thanks for the game!

SV T276.

Peaceful game without utilizing the game mods too much. Hired Sinbad, who was quite useful in scouting the seas and getting a ton of cash. Took the society owls of minerva, which was not that good as Seowons don't get adjacency (from anything).

I didn't experience too many natural disasters and I lost only briefly 2 cities due to loyalty/ages. I also got a few AI cities through loyalty/conquering free cities.

T226 SV

Decent, if slow game after a brief run in the middle to take over the continent end of Classical/beginning of Medieval. Was more worried about dramatic ages and razed a couple cities without decent tiles or luxuries to keep the number lower, but it wouldn't have mattered and just slowed the game down a lot as I could run less projects. Went Owls for envoys to work with Kilwa and boost everything. The double science card and gold/science yield golden card were in as much as possible. Had all the extra card wonders along with Ruhr, Kilwa, and Oxford. Built Apadana early and then Statue of Zeus to provide most of the army to win the continent. Hired Fez swordsman for China's only city (2 lost to dark, which I razed) while I took out single city Norway and England's 3, which all had much better lands than I did thanks to a series of fires.

Religion was helpful paired with Fez for burst of science. Had the culture from buildings for founding belief and then faith from cities to help with hero recall and GPP purchasing along with the building for extra amenities.

Waited to meet the second continent - with Sinbad for the gold - until I had wiped my continent so no one was angry with me. Only made one friend but trading was useful as I had so many luxuries.

Heroes - Luckily got Anansi and built him instead of Herc, who I actually found first, for the early boosts. Got Herc second for some fast growth and brought him back each era including building 5 Space Ports across an Age switch. Hard built another 2 and had the win a few turns after Exoplanet launched. Himiko was useful for getting ahead on the 2nd continent and Maui got me a few extra luxuries. England had Beowulf right as I was on my way to attack but they let the City State they were fighting kill him - sadly they razed Mexico City right before I could get there.

Wasn't much to do after the war except projects, envoy quests, and chasing strategics I didn't have for boosts or power. Settled a couple cities for coal, aluminum, and oil. Good game overall and between dams and luck not too many crippling disasters. I don't think any of the AI made it to my continent as I remember one finding Cartography just before the end via the gossip.

Thanks again for the games!
