Victory on turn 281. This was hands-down the easiest 6otM I've played so far (admittedly, I've done only half a dozen and this is only the second I've completed successfully, but it was much easier than the other one I finished).

I captured two of Rome's cities and built five others of my own, one on another continent. I didn't actively pursue religion, but I stumbled onto the last Great Prophet and made a go of it, only to get zerg rushed by Tsar Peter's missionaries. I retaliated for the destruction of my religion by declaring a holy war on him, but I didn't get far with it. As for culture, I pursued it just enough to keep up. After ganking Montezuma's settler and knocking him out of the game, I went straight for Pottery and Writing so that I could get my Campus built as quickly as possible, and I immediately built the library after that. A few ziggurats on top of that were enough to keep me on the leading edge of science, and the early Campus push won me nearly every Great Scientist, including Newton in the middle and Stephanie Kwolek at the end (whom I snagged with my excess faith, just to be sure). By good fortune, I also won the Great Engineer who boosts space race projects (Goddard?), and he allowed me to insta-complete my moon mission just a couple of turns after I'd begun it. The only war I started was against Trajan, after that !$%#^& beat me to the Great Library by just two turns. Yeah, I wasn't gonna stand for that. Turned out he was mine-happy, so Rome was a magnificent production engine, and it's where I sited my primary spaceport, where I launched every space race project but the last. City-states might have been helpful if I'd ever been able to find any, but the only one I encountered for the first two-thirds of the game was Nan Madol, and Gorgo had, like, 33 envoys there, so I just held onto mine until I finally met a couple that provided production assistance, then spammed them into my good graces. There were only two touch-and-go moments, one when Gorgo invaded me with a whole mess of tank armies (luckily, I was far enough advanced in science that despite having hardly any troops to fend her off with, she couldn't make a dent in my city walls) and one when I noted that Barbarossa was a little bit ahead of me in the space race. A few well-placed spies took care of that problem. Poor guy never even rebuilt his spaceports. I think I demoralized him.

Science Victory Turn 188 score 1150

I immediately captured the Aztec settler, moved my settle one tile east and settled. That let me settle the captured settler to the west right on the coast.

I took out Rome fairly early but may have delayed too long before taking out Gorgo.

I'm sure I could have finished a lot sooner if I'd expanded more and spammed workers for more UI spam. I think I'll play it again to try for a better time.

A big part of my score was multiple completions of future tech and future civic.

Science Win T153 / 1620 AD

I tried to steal Aztec settler, but I screwed it up by founding my city first and declaring after that. The settler was teleported away from my borders and I could not steal it anymore

Then I started building war carts. I built 4 of them until I was able to capture Tenochtitlan and wipe out Aztecs. Right after that Romans and Greeks DOW'd me. There was also lots of barbs I had to fight as well coming from north and south. Early war was a mess, but eventually I managed to destroy Romans and Greeks.

Then upgraded war carts to knights and got my GG. Then marched to Russia which didnt even have walls yet. Then continued exploring and found Germany, which had occupied Hattusa. I liberated Hattusa and finished off Germany.

Meanwhile I had built lots of settlers and campuses utilizing the Monarchy chopping tactics. Rest of the game was peaceful.

In the end, I should have once again built more commercial districts and less campuses. I didn't explore the other continent and didn't find the commercial city states, which would have helped in building cash. I did build Great Zimbabwe in Uruk, which was my main source of gold with the ~20 trade routes.

Science Victory Turn 257, Score 546

Hello everyone! Back for my second month!

How many cities did you settle or capture?
Settled 10, captured 3 from Rome

What did you prioritize for research and policies?
Spread my science around evenly. Mostly followed Inspirations for Civics, but pushed to Communism and then Space Race in the late game.

Did you bother with Religion?

Nope. God of the Forge pantheon was all I really needed.

Did you bother with Culture?
Nope again. Let the Ziggurats carry that burden.

How did you pump your Science?

Lots of Ziggurats and Campuses in almost all cities. Geneva helped a lot, as did grabbing Oxford Uni.

Did you instigate any major wars?
One against Rome in the early stages. He declared back on me with Germany in the Medieval and I took all his cities but Rome itself.

Were City-States helpful?
Geneva, as mentioned. Buenos Aires got me out of a tight spot after the war with Germany and Rome dragged on a bit.

Did you spare Monty?
Nope!

Any surprises you ran into, how did you deal with it?
Biggest surprise was the total lack of City-States anywhere nearby. Also got caught a bit underprepared when Rome declared. I had basically only built War Carts and had spread them thin. He took several out with a cluster of archers.

Did you enjoy the game?
Certainly did! Thanks!

Science T170@587pts

- How many cities did you settle or capture?
11 on the whole. Took all but two (built rel. late game). 3 were built out of german/barb settlers as a kind of cape colony. But only the 6 "initial" cities were of any use, namely the Cap, Eridu (Aztec Settler), Rome, Sparta, Athens and Moscow. The other five merely "happened" ;-D

- What did you prioritize for research and policies?
Early on prod and campus placement, after that Manoeuvre and Classical Republic. Did not use the Monarchy walls prod trick, which could have shaved some turns, but went straight for merchant rep/communism.... technology wise obv for the ones to build the spaceship parts.

- Did you bother with Religion?
No. As I had enough War Carts to take out my neighbours as the Pantheon arrived, I did not take God of the Forge but went with God of the Open Sky for some +culture... Russia found a Religion, but I did not spread it. There was no real religious combat on my soil at any times.

- Did you bother with Culture?
As the Pantheon offered me lots, not really. I think i built 2 theater districts relatively late, and was not going for nan madol. In the end I had 457science per turn, compared to 113 culture... that tells a lot.
But made it way beyond Communism, so thats fine.

- How did you pump your Science?
Early on I gave not much for adjacencies, but was planning on the long run (the buildings with policies)... I think I built up to 8 (?) Ziggurats in my main 6 cities.

- Did you instigate any major wars?
Early on yes, my War Carts took the whole "continent" west of Brussels ca turn 52, taking out Aztecs (obv), Rome, Greece (2 cities) and Russia. After that no wars, despite a DOW from China+Norway, without any battles.

- Were City-States helpful?
Geneva, yes, but highly disputed by Germany. Brussels, Toronto and Buenos Aires helped out with prod.

- Did you spare Monty?
Obv not, tho it might to have be kind of a fun challenge...

- Any surprises you ran into, how did you deal with it?
No city states early on and silly quests, so it was a fight for envoys. China being redicully isolated. No affairs with the distant continent.

- Did you enjoy the game?
It definetly was fun the first third of the game. Afterwards, it was mainly clicking next turn. On the whole, it was fun. I wonder if i could have finished earlier with going more wide... But as Rise and Fall comes out in 2 days, i probably wont give it a second shot.

Nevertheless, it was real fun to play, tho I would have loved a setting with the aztecs some more tiles away ;) Thanks a lot!

Non Competitive entry (playing with CQUI mod).

Science victory. Somewhere around T180 to T200
(sorry, i forgot to save and the autosave was overwritten but it's not a valid entry anyway)

- How many cities did you settle or capture?

9 for the largest part of the game (8-10 is the most i can be bothered to manage as long as there's no auto-renew for projects) thought i went to 10 and then more due to late game DoWs by stupid AIs.

- What did you prioritize for research and policies?
  • Reasearch was the typical Mining-Animal Husbandry-Archery. Then Writing and Bronze Working then on to Apprenticeship (for improved mines) and Education. Then Machinery and Military Eng (to get Niter) then Industrialization (second mines boost) and then i lost track of how i navigated through industrial and later techs as i knew i needed most anyway. Chemistry was an early one of course.
  • Civics is even more set into stone as the tree isn't as spread out and you usually don't need parts of it at all. Straight to Political Philosophy (prioritizing the branch i got inspiration for, in this case Foreign Trade-Early Empire) then on to Feudalism, then on to Exploration, on to Enlightenment, Suffrage and the rest doesn't really matter.
- Did you bother with Religion?
I didn't even use God King to get a pantheon. Tobacco would eventually give me one at some point.

- Did you bother with Culture?

Yes, i learned from the last Science GotM i played that focusing only on science means very late Suffrage and missing on cheaper GP purchases so this time i tried to keep a good culture flow. I used policies, Zigguraths and even built 2 theater squares with archeological museums (so i wouldn't have to bother getting artists). It turned out useless in the end because AIs were so broke the entire game i couldn't make decent money to purchase GSs.

- How did you pump your Science?

Campuses everywhere with the buildings plus Zigguraths along rivers in several low production cities to the north was more than enough to get me far ahead of everyone and science definitely wasn't the limiting factor for that "late" victory.

- Did you instigate any major wars?

"Do it or don't, but there is no try". I instigated only 2 wars but they were quick, brutal and definitive.
First war was started on T1 and ended the same turn. You can probably guess who was the victim.
Second war started a few turns later, still in Ancient Era. Rome who i met a few turns before marched 4 warriors straight at my capital while both cities were producing slingers and i had 2 carts (my first builds) and the my warrior out exploring. As soon as the first slinger was out, i declared on him as my carts were coming back. I killed 2 warriors, the other 2 scattered in the hills. The (now 3) slingers quickly upgraded to archers and they along the 2 carts marched on Rome while 2 more carts were being produced in case the warriors came back. Augustus had the good idea to produce a settler and i could capture it with a cart just before i took Rome. War Carts are really strong.
I could and probably should have pushed on Sparta at that time but Gorgo was friendly, had only 1 city and there was plenty of room to expand. Later i met Peter but was already in build mode by the time it happened.

I've been the target of 2 DoWs later. First by Victoria and Gorgo who quickly blamed me for "yielding too easily" even thought she witnessed the conquest or Rome. I lost a pair of scouts exploring the second continent to Victoria, took Gorgo's second city (the one close to my border) and was busy reducing Sparta's countryside to smoking ruins as she wouldn't cede Knossoss when my friend Peter gang-banged on her and took Sparta, solving the issue (my Field Cannons bombarding Sparta probably helped his knights slightly). I decided to wait before ending the war with Victoria until i could escort Charles Darwin to the 4-tile NW in English land just in case she wouldn't sign an Open Border so i sent a pair of tanks to make a mess of her crossbows and protect the scientific expedition.
Later, it was Saladin (who hated me for being a Warmonger after capturing a single city from Gorgo who attacked me) and my old friend Peter! Needless to say i didn't really like this betrayal so i decided to teach him a lesson. The instructors were my modern armors and jet bombers. Game was already over at that point and all of this was actually a fun distraction so i decided to liberate Sparta to see what would happen as i was still at war with Gorgo when Sparta fell. Turned out the liberation offset the occupation penalty (Knossoss was still mine) and my war with Peter quickly turned her friendly. I could probably have ended the war with Peter but was having fun sending him back to the dark ages after taking St-Petersbourgh and was still at war when the game ended.

- Were City-States helpful?

What city states? Were there city states in this game?
Well, actually once i managed to actually contact some useful CS (not that useless cultural one next to Sparta) i had enough envoys to quikcly become suzerain of Geneva and more importantly Stockholm so i guess, yes they were.

- Did you spare Monty?

Heresy!

- Any surprises you ran into, how did you deal with it?

AIs were broke. I mean totally broke. Best deal i could get for my luxuries most of the game was like 50:c5gold:+1gpt. No way to make decent money. And of course no way to trade GpT for immediate gold either. I dealt with it by not building Big Ben, running Research project purely for the GS and launching much later than expected. In fact none of the modern/atomic era GS i used gave me any Eureka as i already had all the techs from their era when i recruited them, but i had to recruit them all since AIs were so far behind and didn't recruit any. I think i already had researched Future Tech a couple times when i got the first atomic era GS!

- Did you enjoy the game?

The early game was fun. The middle part also as i was building up my empire and laughing at Gorgos empty threats (come test your Hoplites against my knights and crossbows). The late game was way too long due to being forced to recruit (not even buy) every single GS. I might even have been faster using Rome to build the spaceport and hard building the projects but the last GotM science game i played, i spent a lot of time building 2 very strong production cities to finally find out you just need 2 scientists to finish the game in 4 turns. Unfortunately this game, getting to those scientists was a real pain. I might actually try again, not bother about GS and just hard build everything to compare.

Science T133
If you loook at the spoiler picture it shows my spaceport after finishing - 8 trees and a stone left and loads of builders. This game could be done a lot more efficiently than I did but it was fun, I even did Oxford University for a change.
How many cities did you settle or capture?
Settled 13, captured 11. To be fair 7 of my settled cities were non science money harvesters for late game, I ended up with waaay too much money.
What did you prioritize for research and policies?
As there was a good spaceport location with lots of woods I concentrated on getting to lumber mills, then spaceport then big ben then whatever but always looking for the eurekas of course. Missed quite a few but OIxford Uini gave me 2 late ones on T120ish which was nice.
Did you bother with Religion?
Yep, just for the Jesuit. Managed to convert and keep 2 CS which was great... 4 science CS in this game makes it easy.
Did you bother with Culture?
Of course! 2 Theaters just to make it easier and to ensure I could get to democracy earlier just in case.
How did you pump your Science?
The normals ways with CS, Jesuit Education, a little adjacency, a little specialism and a few Zigs
Did you instigate any major wars?
No! After Trajan DOW'd me I was just a little cross, it was all his fault!
Were City-States helpful?
Yup, normal science, never got to Amsterdam, then it was taken
Did you spare Monty?
Yes, I spared him the trouble of settling next to me.
Any surprises you ran into, how did you deal with it?
Barbs!... Barbs and more Barbs, lots of archers too ... archers and spears are a bad combo for chariots so I ended up building about 10 archers
Did you enjoy the game?
Yes you never get real games this good so its nice to get down to the experts level.. not really possible with Victoria.
Thank you GOTM team

Spoiler :

They all had lumber mills until the end

Cripes, no wonder this one was so easy! I just now noticed it was only King difficulty!

Science victory on turn 176.

Basically, my game went like so... I moved my settler where the rivers meet to take advantage of that glorious diamond tile. I also captured the Aztec settler and plotted it down near the tobacco. Not many turns later, Rome declared war after sending a warrior army to surround one of my cities (I was quite impressed by the coordinated attack, but they soon got distracted by other units... I think they may have been pushed out of my borders after declaring on me too, which caused their attack to become disjointed). After beating them back and while taking Rome's only city, I found a Greece settler roaming around the countryside all alone. So I declared on Gorgo and eventually took her 2 cities as well. After that, it was all sim city. This was my first sub-200 victory, which I'm really proud of.

- How many cities did you settle or capture?
12 total cities (9 settled and 3 captured). I settled 2 in the beginning (1 from Aztec's settler), and then captured 3 from other civs (1 from Rome and 2 from Sparta), before mass producing settlers for my other 9 cities. My last city was settled very late (to get the oranges near the start)

- What did you prioritize for research and policies?
Pretty much science related stuff all the way for research, especially after the early game. I did a lot of cash focus, amenities, and housing policy cards when I didn't have anything that could boost science. Towards the late game I did some wonder cards and left on the industrial zone card for the rest of the game. The +5 production to international trade routes is amazing for a science victory... I wish I would have grabbed that much sooner. I kind of just stumbled upon it.

- Did you bother with Religion?
I did build a holy site in Sparta, but I was dumb about it. I didn't even look to see how many religions were left. The turn that I completed the holy site district was the turn that the last prophet was taken. I was hoping to get the production, science and gold boosts from religion.

- Did you bother with Culture?
A little. I think I had like 2 theater squares in the early mid game, because I do know culture is important. By the end game, I probably had 6 theater squares, with 2 or 3 fully built up.

- How did you pump your Science?
I got all the best great scientists and bee-lined for universities in the tech tree. Once I discovered Geneva, which was very late in the game, I took instant suze of them (I had not used hardly any of my envoys on nan modal and the production cs near Russia). I definitely needed to scout further, but barbs were really good at killing off my scouts. Either that, or I was really good at getting my scouts in bad situations.

- Did you instigate any major wars?
They weren't major... I beat Rome and Greece with nothing but a couple of war carts. I could have had knights before I took them out, but I focused elsewhere once I only had 1 turn left on it since it wasn't even necessary. I didn't even make any more units after that, except for scouts to put in each city for the amenities policy card. I did end up upgrading all my war carts to knights after my wars were over so it was easier to take out the barbs.

- Were City-States helpful?
Not in the beginning... I knew there had to be more than what I had found, so I was saving envoys. It was literally only me and Russia and Nan Modal that I was aware of for like half the game. Once I found Geneva and Toronto and the other production cs, I suzerained them pretty quick, because I found all their bonuses helpful in the late game. Germany had already taken Hattusa when I found that cluster of city states. The other continent with a few city-states was found waaaaay late game. I ended up just pumping 6 envoys into Seoul to help me finish off all my techs. None of the AI civs put anything in Carthage, so I suze'd that about 10 turns before my victory.

- Did you spare Monty?
Nope. Sorry not sorry.

- Any surprises you ran into, how did you deal with it?
Not really. Barbarians were kind of a pain in my ass for the first half of the game.

- Did you enjoy the game?
I had a lot of fun, especially since I finally beat my goal of 200 turns. The only downside is that it was kind of as if the other civs did not exist. Only one of them gave me a somewhat fair luxury trade and I was allied with Russia for most of the game... not really for any reason though.

It took t144 to get carts2space

Build order: Cart -> Cart -> Cart -> Encampment x 2 -> more Cart...
Capture order: Settler->Rome->Sparta->St.Petersburg (done by ~t75), break, China (~t120-t125)

Messed up with capturing Russia, lost few carts to barbs & archers

After captured Russia, stopped conquering (obvious error), and built too many Campi, and not enough Culture. Got Democracy way too late (~t125 maybe), so research projects were not that effective.

On t100 placed down Space district on a 5pop city in forest. Spaceport finished on t137, the same turn finished BigBen (with 7k in treasure), and it was awkward push to get all 5 space projects out by running out of money to buy land (forests), builders etc. Somehow expected Sagan to overflow to the next projects but it didn't :)

Blunders:
- building early Encampments. GG didn't even work on Carts, and was not needed anyway. It was fun though to use that GG to capture barb ship, upgrade it to Frigate->Battleship and conquer whole China in less than 10 turns.
- not building any culture districts, also generated too little money (12 trade routes in the end)
- not placing districts early, too few districts placed overall
- way too much focus on Science buildings/projects

Overall, one enjoyable cart ride -> simcity :)

T138 Science Victory

I honestly expected to finish this game a bit sooner given the play speed was on quick, starting with 2 settlers and king difficulty where War Carts might as well be armored tanks. Nonetheless with no commercial city states and broke "trash countries" with no gold per turn from AI Civs, it took a while to develop enough of an economy to buy out the great scientists at the end. It was also to my surprise that Carl Sagan no longer carries over excess production. (Maybe I missed this in the patch notes as I have updated Rise and Fall and am playing this game with the Vanilla rule set) No matter it probably only cost me 5-10 turns give or take if I had known and played around this.

How many cities did you settle or capture?
I had only 17 cities at the end. I ended up capturing and taking Geneva from an early war cart scout to prevent Germany from taking it. Might have been better to have let Germany take it and later liberate but there was no shortage of science city-states so I figured why not.

What did you prioritize for research and policies?
Whatever would get me the most science and gold/turn pretty much. I didn't plan on a location for Great Zimbabwe or even my spaceport city until quite later (didn't have much trees or stone to harvest but didn't feel I would need it as much as usual)

Did you bother with Religion?
Founded one with +1% production per follower, didn't feel it had much of an impact though.

Did you bother with Culture?
Wasn't my top priority but I made sure I had enough to get suffrage in time and make good use of the envoys rewarded through completing the mid game civics.

How did you pump your Science?
Prioritized scientific city state envoys and built campus/library/University in almost every city (even chopped a few research labs late game), mostly used monarchy/ancient walls overflow to rush Universities.

Did you instigate any major wars?
Early on yes, after capturing enough land however I stopped bothering with military.

Were City-States helpful?
I find they're almost always helpful.

Did you spare Monty?
It would be insulting to refuse that generous gift!

Any surprises you ran into, how did you deal with it?
I built up almost as many commercial hubs as campuses thinking I'd be rich once I found a few commercial city-states!
Well none were to be found that weren't already captured, I was delighted to find Stockholm however to pump out great scientists faster.
The late game Carl Sagan nerf was certainly a big surprise to me, but at that point it was too late to change my game-plan so I sucked it up had to accept my projected victory date would later then expected.

Did you enjoy the game?
Very much so. As always I absolutely love figuring out the fastest ways to win SV, I don't think a T120 or sooner completion would be that difficult with this setup if I was to play it again.

Finally finished this one... 1914AD with 794 score.
Mostly just relearning the way civ6 works as it was a long time since I last played, and maybe a couple patches ago. How do GSci help space project completion??? I got a GEng that could dump 1000 prod into a project part, but only one. Took 14 turns to finish the final project, which was quite long and tedious. But the early game was fun, even if it was a bit on the "too easy" side of things.

Still Learning Civ 6 and how to win more quickly. I am going back to play older GOTM to practice and then compare against what is posted here. Can't figure out why I couldn't build govt plaza and level 3 building allowing builders to move spaceport production along. Any thoughts out there would be helpful.

You most likely need a third level government for that. The Gov. Plaza should become available as soon as you have the right civic for it.
