Justification for the 4UC additions

Pancerny
The Pancerny doubles-down on Poland's existing emphasis on mounted units by adding another UU, but on the other unitcombat line so the two do not upgrade into each other. The Pancerny is primarily focused on being tanky and defensive, but also has some bonuses for last-hitting.

Barbican
The Barbican is a 2-for-1 unique building, with modest numbers boosts over the base Castle, but also giving a free armory on construction. With this bonus, Poland is pushed more explicitly towards their militaristic focus, giving them more of a offensive/defensive personality that their UA lacks.

The "Bonus doubled on barbarians" part seems unnecessary. I think there are 2 different UCs with this?

Text on Pancerny mentions extra Ranged Defense, but the ability is universal.

Isn't +10% ranged strike a base ability of Castle?

the barbican is cool, I like the idea that for Poland they get a beeline to steel that covers multiple areas, and gives them a real powerful boost in medieval. Its a neat concept.

Overall grade: B+
Poland’s existing civ kit has a UA that gives a strong, but also amorphous bonus. Meanwhile it has a UB that mainly boosts the power and production of mounted units while they also have one of the strongest mounted melee units in the game. With the 4UC components, we continue this trend by giving efficient military infrastructure and another mounted UU. It is what Casimir would have wanted.

Pancerny
Theme - A.
The Towarzyzs Pancerny was added to the game by our resident Pole, Adan_Eslavo. The theme is very strong with the rest of the Polish kit, which uses the component slots to emphasize a militaristic, mounted focus while the UA gives a powerful, flexible bonus
Mechanics - B. A fairly tanky skirmisher. No muss, no fuss. The Ducal Stable wraps around this unit so we had to be careful not to go too far. I personally do not like the double yields on barbarian kills; it seems particularly irrelevant on a medieval unit.
Uniqueness - C. Mechanically this unit is extremely orthodox and conventional, but it is still acceptably strong.

Barbican
Theme - C.
The Barbicans that adorn the walls of several Polish cities are architecturally striking and beautiful. Suitable for theme but it’s not something as necessarily emblematic as we could hope for
Mechanics - A. The free armory is a huge bonus. Really makes a splash when you build it, like getting a good sale at the supermarket (god I am old). The ranged power is thematically strong
Uniqueness – A. It feels unique without being game-warping. The permanent ranged attack bonuses on both the city and the garrison also pack a satisfying punch if you are in a scrape.

@pineappledan I really like your factual reasoning. Couldn't agree more. Imho that would be an overall good addition. For a second I was thinking about replacing UA with an extra damage dealt to units that can't escape (due to unit historically being heavy armored and equipped with bow and lance) but then I realized it would have been another Cossack and extra defence plays well with being a heavy armored unit too.

Edit: Consider changing the name of UA. I'm Polish so I don't mind it being called as above. I am however worried about all the rest of you, probably 99,99% not knowing Polish language. ;)
"Holy anthem", "Forefathers anthem", "Forefathers song", "God's will" - those would be my suggestions while personally leaning probably towards the second one.
Reasoning: "Bogurodzica" was a religious song. It was a national anthem. It was also called as "fathers' song" (pieśń ojców) where "fathers" meaning would actually be understood as "forefathers".

MAGI:
Double yield on barb kill is already supported so the UU is database only
Barbican strength to garrison needs a DLL column for Buildings
The double replacement is currently done by lua... I'm pretty sure you can block a civ from building Armory with an existing table like how Israel blocks Temples. Or does this replace Temple with NULL? @pineappledan you presumably know the answer

It’s just a free building. No crazy stuff. No lua anymore.
The only lua is the building now makes the city tile add a promotion to a unit. The method used for the unit to lose the promo when it moves is already integrated.
How I accomplish this currently is via an improvement placed under the city when the barbican is constructed. The ability to add promotions to units when they move onto the tile already exists for improvements but no equivalent exists for city tiles.

If it acceptable to the VP modders to make a building column that adds/removes an improvement underneath a city when a certain building is built/destroyed that could also be used to make the Songhai UB work. It could also be used to give any city tile improvement-like abilities, like citadel chip damage, or yields indirectly on the tile. If that is considered too janky then Songhai and Poland need bespoke code additions separate from each other.

Edit: Also we already have precedent of improvements placed under cities, because this is how I can mountain cities get their graphics. I don’t consider it too janky. The only real janky part of it would have to be reserved for uniques, because building city improvements would overwrite each other. This ability can never be used for base buildings/wonders

Those improvements are considered dummy improvements which we shouldn't use. The mountain city is for display only so we can leave it in (though it'll still have conflicts with abilities that count the number of improvements in city/empire).

Timestamp post to arrange all the threads in a neat order.
