Pontiuth Pilate
Republican Jesus!
AP has the story; it should be on the Yahoo! frontpage.
A quick summary:
Gorelick (D): $14,000 including max. 2 grand for Kerry, Gephardt and 1 for Clark
Kerry (D): $25,000 mostly leftover from his Senate campaign, donated to friendly Senate campaigns in Oregon and other states
Kean (R): $4,000 to the GOP
Gorton (R): $2,700 to GOP and friendly Senate races.
Thompson (R): $2,000 to Bush and sundry
Lehman (R): $6,000 including 2 grand each for Bush and McCain and 1 for Arlen Specter.
All commissioners gave virtually identical statements: the commission is nonpartisan [or bipartisan, the term used more often by the Republicans] but the commissioners saw no need to "forsake" their donations and recuse themselves from political races. Democrat Gorelick: If I stopped (giving) for the period of my service, it doesn't give a more honest representation of who I am. I am a Democrat. Republican Lehman: This is not a political issue even though the media tries to play it into a partisan issue... I see absolutely no conflict with people continuing to go to church, people continuing to be members of clubs, people continuing to participate in their public lives and to contribute to political campaigns as they see fit.
