A Best Of Forum?

I was skimming another forum today and I saw that they had a forum devoted to old, good threads. These threads were locked and for reading only.

I thought this was a good idea. How about a 'Best of CFC' forum? Posters could nominate great threads and we can vote on how good they are. For example in this forum there could be one forum for Thread Nominations and Polls, where someone posts a great thread and we vote on it. Then we could have subforums for Civ and OT, or possibly subforums for Civ, then Religion, Politics, Humor, etc.

This would work better with search, but could still be done without.

(Oh, and this brings up an itching question of mine - where do the threads in OT go past a certain date? It seems to end at a certain point, but we dont' lose the posts, and IIRC when search was up they could still be found...)

How old should it go? The oldest OT thread I can find is this:http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4736

I did it by switching the options at the bottom of the forum from "last 30 days" to "beginning". If that thread is indeed the oldest one laying around then the old stuff is still available, and I think would decrease potential demand for a best of series...

Seems like it might be a good idea for Civ strategy, Civ C&C, and humor. Besides that (off-topic, all other games, Civ3 and Civ2 GD, site feedback, etc.), I don't think you can call any threads "great."

But this idea has been brought up a few times before and it's always been rejected (or treated with apathy)...

I wonder if a tolerable substitute would be tolerance of a single thread here in Feedback where links to the greatest threads are placed? That wouldn't mean any work for the mods.

Granted it would mean tons of spam, but it is Feedback...

Really WillJ? I never saw it. Anyway I think a Best Of for OT would be good, there have been some nice religious and philosophical debates in there, as well as some pretty funny threads.

XIII was proposing a locked forum like this not too long ago. I think TF said he'll consider it when VB 3.0 comes out.

I forgot just how many of those patch reports were pure gold

anyways, if you can find 10 threads that could be considered the best of anything, I would be quite interested (However I don't think you can )
