A cat outside the building

Our calico (tri-color) just gave birth to five kittens. For a couple of days we could not figure out where she did it. Then my wife wanted to dry some laundry. The kittens were on a couple of towels that had been left in the drier. So, for a week or two, we hang dry the clothes.

Good thing nobody just tossed stuff in and turned it on without looking!

If we're doing cat photos, this is what the little kitten my wife rescued looked like in January. She found him barely moving under a bush, likely abandoned. He had rickets and anemia and a respiratory issue that made him rasp, and was really underweight.

Here he is now, a bratty kitten who even mostly gets along with our big grumpy 9 year old, when he's not trying to wrestle with the old one.

We have one of those too, but with a bit more black. Here is our foundling now:

Anyway, the cat now has a trey with cat-food, and water. Although the location isn't optimal; it is next to the yard of some ground-floor of the next building, where kids routinely play making a lot of noise. Also, i am surprised that no other cat went to steal the food; though there rarely are male cats around.
Btw, most male cats i have seen have the expression of serial killers

If you mean serial killers of mice and other vermin, that's not a bad thing at all. Arwon's cat reminds me very much of my dad's cat, Sammy (died in February of 2008). Sammy was an extremely good mouser, and he ate most of his kills. It freaked my dad's girlfriend out one night, when the cat wanted in. She opened the door, and let out a screech when she saw that he had most of a mouse in his mouth (the tail was dangling out). My dad just started to laugh, as Sammy went down to the cellar and ate the mouse. Awhile later, they discovered that he actually had a kind of mouse crypt there - a pile of whatever bones and other stuff that cats don't eat.

Sammy left me a dead mouse as a present one morning, on the back porch. It was a very nice gesture on his part, since he was never really my cat. But he and Gussy were friends, so I guess he thought maybe I'd share the mouse with Gussy, or give him the whole thing (Gussy wasn't much of a hunter; his first attempt was catching a bee, which promptly stung him so his paw got quite swollen - after that Gussy hunted less dangerous prey, like the occasional french fry that fell on the floor).

I lost my fav cat a couple of years ago, she only loved me and my daughter, no one else could touch dear Coco.

So as a replacement my wife got two cats, built an enclosure outside our bathroom. I said I don't want another cat.My no wasn't enough, cats have to be free, if they kill a bird so what. Australian frigging rule of having cats inside by nighttime, which is ok.

THEN asking for her to clean their litter boxes: I don't have time, or it's too cold, so I have to do it for the cats I never wanted in the first place.

2 cats crap ALOT!

Our last four cats have been black. Since we get them from shelters, they're the ones that don't seem to be picked. I'll post a picture later. My wife keeps giving them golf names so I won't get mad when she brings them home. Par, Bogey, and Ping.

And here is our latest addition (Ping) lounging on the couch, Well I guess I could have rotated that better.

I almost adopted this cat tonight.

Her name is Ivy, and I got to meet her. The owner was flabbergasted when Ivy came over to me and started licking my fingers and enjoying being scratched and rubbed; she said the cat wouldn't let her do that.

So we tried an experiment: We brought Ivy over to my place to see how Maddy would react.

It was a disaster. :( Everything was okay for about 5 minutes, while Ivy explored my apartment and I showed her human what my cat setup is (proving that there are cat beds, perches, lots of food and litter...).

And then Maddy let out a screech that must have scared the people across the hall. Ivy started growling, and Maddy was furious. Maddy started chasing her around the apartment, and she was not playing.

So no adoption. It's an urgent situation, as the owner is having major surgery and won't be able to care for the cat during her recovery time (expected to last months). She decided to offer her for adoption and was initially glad to not only get an answer, but also because I live so close by.

Alas, it's not going to work. I hadn't realized how territorial Maddy has become. She might be able to handle a kitten if the introduction was extremely gradual, but an adult appears to be out of the question.

It's not all bad, though. Ivy's human and I have some common interests, so making a new acquaintance who might become a friend is never a bad thing.

It is cool, obviously, that some of you people are so fond of cats, but i think this thread shouldn't be a general "post about cats/cat pics" topic :D
Of course if anyone wants to they can start such a thread, i just am not really feeling comfortable with this one taking this role (given i have no cat anyway). :)

(that said, it is likely this thread already used up the discussion able to be generated by the op).

Oh, do excuse us, then.

Fine, I'll start a new thread. Shall I ask for the non-cat-outside-your-building posts to be moved?

No, but if you are so kind you can send me a few dollars as compensation at my paypal? :yup:
May I remind you which of us has been giving out cat advice over the years here, and which of us started this thread to talk about a perceived problem?

If you object to general cat discussion here, I'm willing to start a new thread. And I wouldn't dream of asking anyone to move your posts, just the ones you don't want.

Feeding stray animals is always a dodgy thing to do, mainly because once they get food they will always come back for more...It happened with me, like I posted in one of the member’s picture threads before...In my case, a whole bunch of cats came back asking for food afterwards...
