First off,

I play bts, contenints, and noble but I want to move up to prince but I get so discouraged in the early game that i never finish. Any advice on how to win on Prince.

Also can someone explain to me the difference between commerce and currency. I usually do fine but I don't really understand the concepts of it. If the science is at 100% does that mean the only currency will come from a religion. Am I wrong on this.

Concepts, Commerce and Gold

Commerce; come from tiles worked (see city screen) and trade routes. a coastal tile has 2 commerce, a cottaged flood plain has 2 commerce, you capital has 8 commerce just fo being your capital.

This commerce is divided into the percentage of your slider: Say you are getting 100 commerce, science slider 60%, culture 10%, EP 10% and by default gold is 10%. You CIV is getting 70 beakers from commerce, 10 culture points, 10 EP points, 10 GOLD. Commerce basically is earned income that can be divided as you see fit. Commerce CAN be turned into gold, it is not gold.

GOLD: Cash or what you term currency (there is a tech called currency so people here call it gold). You get this from holy shrines, certain buildings, certain wonders, and merchant specialists. This pays the costs of you civ, called upkeep (civic upkeep, troops, distance from palace, inflation).

Some building reduces the costs of upkeep (courthouses), some increse your gold yield (banks), some increase beaker output. SO 1 bank (50% gold) with 10% gold from your 100 commerce, gives you 15 gold towards maintaining you civilization.

Hope this helps. It is one concept that took me awhile to pickup.

Above poster is correct although he misspelled 70 and wrote 60% for a total of 90% spending.
Commerce is this icon: :commerce:
while gold is this icon: :gold:

I'm not sure exactly what problems you're running into - it might help if you provided more insight on what troubles you're having on Prince. I won't be able to view a saved game (I'm at work), but if you posted a save, I'm sure that there's be many people willing to give some more specific advice.
