I would be alot happier if CFC included a small box at the bottom of my profile whenever I view it that tells me which users have ever viewed my profile. I don't know why, but this would make me quite happy.

Since it is public and you control that is in it, why not presume everyone has seen it already? But I know in reality we all don't actually read everyone else's profiles, hehehee.

BTW, you're asking, in effect, to assume no one has seen it, and exceptions should be posted :).

I don't know why, but this would make me quite happy.

LOL, that was going to be my question to you! ;)

You are right starlifter it was a stupid idea. Nevermind then.
If you thought I was saying it was stupid, you are mistaken. :) You should definitely keep it as a suggestion! I think it would be interesting to see! Somebody may have written a patch to do it, or something like it.

BTW, since you didn't say just why you wanted it, I was taking some guesses and covering several bases, since I was interpreting what you wrote as maybe a internet-privacy sort of issue, and to reverse track (e.g., assume a public piece of info is unknown to somone unless tracked) might lead someone to an incorrect assumption, like in forum posting, PMs, etc. :)

PS, I'll bet the "little box" will grow quite big for some people, like the mods & TF, heheee.

I don't use profiles... I mean, I have used them to send someone an email/pm, but I don't look to see PC (when it was off) or when someone joined. And I bet hte majority of people here don't use them all that much either. :)

I look at profiles occasionally to see how much they post etc, and when thy last posted here. This was quite useful in the chess tournament where several players disappeared...

I often look at profiles to get a better handle on where a poster might be coming from (especially in OT).

For instance, a 15 yr. old from Weehauken NJ who claims to have all the answers for the MidEast isn't going to get as much credit from me as a 45 yr. old from TelAviv. The one has three times the life-experience of the other. (He could still be wacko, admittedly. :D) And yes, you can lie on your profile, but I don't think most posters do.

I have seen a lot of 15 years olds who are more clever than some 45 years olds. Do not evaluate anyone just for his/her age. You can lose a chance to hear a lot of good idea.

I use age as a guide, not as an absolute.

Sorry, I didn't get that impression from your first post.

BTW, I'm 23 years old. Which way does my age "guides" you on my opinions. ;)

23? Heck you're a spring chicken! A whippersnapper! Barely beyond being a punk teen! :p I'm ready for my coffin... :(

Quite simply, it tells me you are an adult, probably out of school and in the workforce, unless you are working towards an advanced degree, or have some other reason for still being in school. (I can think of several good reasons to still be in school at 23. It's just not common.)

In any case, you probably have at least some experience with what life is really like, outside the academic classroom. Taken in conjunction with your location, I make the (possibly faulty) assumption that you have traveled, at least a little within Turkey, and very probably within Europe. (I also take into consideration a poster's understanding of the topic of the thread, or at least the situation being discussed. Being familiar with multiple cultures isn't required, but it rarely hurts. :) )

Now that I've probably guessed everything wrong about you, :D let me say that I use age as a guide primarily when the poster makes some outrageous statement. If he's 13, I'll probably just dismiss him as a silly kid who doesn't know any better, whereas if he's an adult, I may question what planet he lives on.

Anyway, it's just one guide, one clue as to where the poster is coming from. There are many other factors that come into play, including nationality, special knowledge, posting history, etc.

@floppa: calm down, boy! :D I've got you by 20 yrs.!

Why are you in a hurry for a coffin? You are young. You will play Civ10 and probably see the expansion pack for it.
:D

I usually click on that Profile button link when I want to see a poster's last posted time.

In other times I check people's detailed profiles in the admin panel to see their IP addresses and other info not available on the public profile page...

Give it a rest, Floppy! I've got you by eleven years. Anyone crying about 27 being old should be BANNED! :splat: :D

How about just the number of people that viewed your profile? That would be cool also, plus no privacy would be lost. :)

Expanding on the orignal concept, there is a place where this could be applied in a direct administrative sense.... the Rules page. If a poster's name and last view date were available in HTML output (e.g., on a webpage), and this funciton were applied to a specific page (like the Rules), then it would be public knowledge if someone ad at least loaded that page for the most current revision of rules (as evidenced by the date). This would allow the plain old CFC members to check and see if somone had read the rules, like when someone spams a page with jibberish.

Not that failure to read the rules is an excuse, but when you have someone's name on a document (or lack thereof) it gives a sense of personal accountability. Like a signer of the Declaration of Independance... we all can look to see just who affixed their names to it!! (PS, the English probably would have hung them if the Revolution failed  ).

:)

What in the name of god I thought my last post here was it for this thread but it ends up getting 50 million!!!!! :)

PH: Ya maybe just the number might be better I just wanted to see how many people visited my profile so I could tell how popular I am.
