A 'HUMBLE' Request from a RTW person **Note: C3C Editor Features inside!**

Looking like quite a big list. Can't wait to get my hands on the new BIQ format.

Three things that are apparently not included but should be IMO:

1) setting up diplomacy/attitude options in the editor (i.e. this civ A is at peace and polite towards civ B who is at peace but furious with civ C). Locked alliances are only usefull in purely military confrontations but these less permanent changes would gave scenarios much more depth in reflecting historical enmities.

2) Setting builds (and shields accumulated) in cities.

3) Setting unit status (fortified, unfortified, moving etc). Less important than the other two suggestions but would be cool nonetheless.

hopefully some of these may be addressed in patches. The editor went a long way from the first Civ3 version to the one in 1.29f. so I have hope :)

Finally, this is a future suggestion on editors (i.e. Civ4): for Civ, doing a scenario is a process which is usually done in parts. Usually this involves 1) map, 2) cities, 3) improvements, 4) units, 5) global settings. What would be cool is if the editor was split into these parts so for example, you'd be in map mode and all the options for map making would be easily accessible (for example, icons for the terrain types and overlays), then you'd go into city mode with perhaps a window with individual city options, etc etc etc. As it stands, the editor is a bit clumsy in that it does everything at the same time and doesn't really make each part of the scenario-building process as smooth as it could be.

I don't think unit-spawning improvements means that you can then go ahead and build said units after completing an improvement... I think it means that it automatically generates them. But it wouldn't be much fun if you built Stables, Shipwrights, Barracks, and what not and then just have units appearing without having to do anything...

I heard "flavors" referred to regarding separate tech trees for different civs.

Or could it be that flavors refers being able to have separate animations for the same unit... so that way, different civilizations can have different-looking units without having to make "English Warrior, French Warrior, German Warrior, etc." because that IS a pain in the a$$.

One thing I don't like about this new government setup is double the cotse per unit for republic. This is gonna suck even if your not at war, because you have to pay 2 gold a turn for each defender you have.

But Republic now has free unit support 1/3/4, so you won't have to pay for every unit.

can anyone tell me what tech, etc. is needed to draft citizens? i cannot figure it out and i would like to change it somehow if i can.

Nationalism (I think)

Isn't there a flag under civ advances?

I'll give an example of what Flavor is:

In the WW2 Pacific scenario there is a tech called Divine Wind which produces the japanese-only Kamikaze unit. Obviously a human player would never research this tech but how to make the AI avoid it also? The answer is to give that tech a "Japanese" Flavor so that the japanese AI will be the only one to research it. (the Allied civs are adverse to all things with a japanese flavor)

You can set global flavor values in the editor (i.e., the adversity or affinity of each flavor group vs. other flavor groups). Various things can be assigned flavors, techs is just one of them (I don't have the beta on hand so I can't check what others)

Hope this helps. ;)

I believe you can also assign flavors to buildings, too...although I think this may just give you a bonus (half cost?) instead of making it exclusive to the civ(s)

Looks like you can now make a Great Wonder a Small Wonder:

(edit: can someone explain how to put the screenshot here?)

to post screenshot:
in 'post reply', go to attachments and browse for the file on your pc, and then click 'add attachment', that's it.

edit: sorry, that didn't work. Anyway you can make the Manhattan Project a small wonder if you want to. It was a big thing when Civ3 first came out.

A no go. Long ago I remember asking MikeBeer about this and he said it would require a lot of changes.

This feature was put in PTW.

Didn't see that Republic got free unit support. Well that is a really good thing, I usally have like 2 or 3 units defending and a small attack force. As I don't go to war that often early in the game.
