A list of how each AI behaves?

I've played one game so far but here's some testimony:

Russia was obsessed with controlling their continent. They captured every city state there, then eliminated three other AI. All the while being just darling to me on another continent.
India was nice. Too nice. I was a complete :):):):):) to them (trying to stay on the right side of Russia) and they kept coming back for more.
Ottomans were standoffish. Not really agreeing to anything. Didn't have any particular trait I noticed beyond that.
Rome was just dismissive of me, for no reason. Very full of themselves in deals.
Arabia and Egypt didn't stand out in this game.

They do scout. I see them paroling my borders then pulling back sometimes, especially if i am at war with them they will do it a lot, even stand there being hit from my city. I was wondering if they did that to farm experience from being attacked (they put themselves on healing posture and can stay there forever), but it might be scouting after all.

Well. They do, but they don't do enough of it. E.g., in my last game, the 2 continents only made contact in XIX century (except for me) - the AI is pretty inward oriented.

Oh I agree on that, they don't seem to understand sea scouting.

It might be because with the disappearance of things like technology trades from the game, scouting everyone but your immediate surrounding and continent is not as relevant or as important as before, so it might be really really low in the AI's todo/priority list.

All civ are very nice - They always offer me all their cities when I kill 2-3 units of them. I like it and I feel satisfied and recommend to preorder the product to everyone !!!

Which it shouldn't be, if the AI really is playing to win.

1) If they go for a Domination Victory, they should know as soon as possible where all the capitals are, right?
2) If they go for a Science Victory, they should want to do as many Research Agreements as possible, right?
3) If they go for a Diplo Victory, they should want to find out were all the City States are, right?
4) If they go for a Culture Victory, they might adopt the turtle strategy, but I doubt that's what they are playing for most of the time.

Also: with the importance of happiness, discovering Natural Wonders for this one extra smiley is really worth it. Not to mention the higher probability of having the strategic resources spawn in known area. And having more good places to found cities...

The list could go on and on.

Like many mentioned before me, Washington tends to expand quickly. He seems to love research agreements and some times conspiracy. Also, true to US spirit, Washington really loves installing democracy in city-states world wide.

Ghandi loves to expand too, but his fleet is mostly lacking.

In the end I believe that all leaders follow the same few scripts.

Since the AI seems to be more dynamic, I do not believe that going for something like a domination victory is set in stone.

In other words the AI might have a preference for domination at the start of the game, but it will adapt and go for whatever is easier or more efficient. If it is already fighting its neighbors, making an extra military unit makes more sens than making boats to explore other continents. And once it conquers its continent, the possibility of going for a culture or science win might end up being the fastest path to victory so it won't even need to scout at that point.

Again the AI can only do so much every turn, and if it has already plenty of things to do, scouting another continent will be so low on a priority/todo list that there will always be something that takes precedence and thus scouting will never happen. It might even be optimal to do so in fact.

You might be right, Sarassin, that this is what happens under the hood. Which actually only underlines the main problem with most AIs: lack of long-term planning.

From several games I have noticed that Darius and Elizabeth tend to expand very slowly. They only had about 2-3 cities by the industrial era. Hiawatha, however, tends to expand rapidly in all my games.

Updated the list. I know it's not 100% accurate, but this is a rough guideline so please let's not get too nit-picky. Still some of the lesser known leaders need to be filled in, let's go!

Darius - Plays to his strengths (gold + Golden age), seems to try to maximze useage of his money to produce units while building wonders, Plays defensively until hes in a golden age...if he is and he outnumbers you...watch out.

love the thread, very good info to have.

here's my experience with Wu: She is generally cooperative during early eras, but starts to turn very aggressive after the industrial era. thanks to her paper makers, she has a robust economy and fights smart, almost always keeping great generals in range of her troops. I don;t have alot of experience starting near her, so i don't know much about her early game other than she seems to always start out friendly and then knife you in the back when she sees weakness.

Bismarck seems like before in my game played with him. A warmonger that expands and techs fairly well, and he is a HUGE nuisance.

The Arabs will spam cities like there is no tomorrow. They usually have the biggest number of cities in my games. They are very straightforward and are very good at teching, even in advance of the human player because of their high population. They are also very keen on conquering other civs. They always end up as a blob in my games. I even think that the Arabs *might* be overpowered. In all of my games yet, they ended up beating to death their eighbors and being the most powerful civ in the world.
