Hi gang,

Can you help me with these questions?

Donal Lugh is supposed to start with 'Recruiter' and 'empty Bier'. I'm pretty sure I cast the recruit spell once. Is it a one time use only spell? Reading the description of the hero, I kind of thought he would get it again when he killed a demon -- any info on this?

I can't figure out what 'empty Bier' is and how it works.

I managed to kill Hyborem (yah!). He had this item 'Gela'. Is there a restriction on a 'good guy' using it?

Oh, one more -- is there any way to convert hell terrain 'back' to normal terrain? Is there a reason to?

Edit: I noticed that the sanctify spell works. now, the quesion is if the hell equivalent resource is an extra resource? Should we leave the toads in place?

Best wishes,

Breunor

Donal can cast recruit again only after killing a demon/undead unit. (I'm pretty sure casting the spell costs him the recruiter promotion, but that victory vs. demon/undead gives it back. The Spell wouldkill any other unit.)

I'm pretty sure the empty bier is just a piece of equipment that makes the unit stronger on the defense. I haven't played as the Bannor in .30 yet (I slipped and dropped my laptop a few days ago, damaging the harddrive. I probbaly won't get it back until January. I doubt I'll get to play again any time soon :( ), but I assume that it can probably be given to other units that are usually better defenders so as to make one stack's defender superstong.

You can use the life 1 spell (sanctify) to turn hell terrain back to normal, but it is only a temporary fix. Lowering the AC should make hell slowly turn back.

Incidently a Bier is the plate a corpse is carried on in a funeral. Donal was in the temple when Braduk fell into hell. He grabbed an empty bier to use as a shield when fighting his way out. The long standing joke is that he was carrying his own bier with him as he fought through hell, so if he died it would be right there. Fortunatly he never needed it for its primary purpose and it made an excellent tower shield for him in his battles.

 I first thought Bier is a scroll or something.
In civilopedia it says, Empty Bier promotion gives +2 defending strength and double fortify bonus. And it's an item, so if hero dies it can be taken, or as Magister said, given to better defending unit.

Yes, that make sense. Maybe there is a bug here -- Donal killed Hyborem (both times, really killed him)! and didn't get the recruit spell back. Maybe Hyborem isn't a 'Demon' for this purpose?

(Btw, this was REALLY neat -- got my SoD ready to confront Hyborem, had the fight between Donal and Hyborem. It doesn't get better than this! Donal was 74.7%, it was a tense moment!)

Also, it looks like when I cast sanctify, the gulagarm remain on the 'normal' terrain. Is this intentional? If not, it may be a bug.

Thanks,

Breunor

I think the resources don't change back until the end of the turn. (If you are in Infernal territory, then the terrain would be hell again by then)

Are you sure recruit isn't working again? You do know that it only works in cities, right?

Yes, with Donal I've gone into cities, I can cast 'Hope' but not recruit.

Yes, the terrain turned back to normal terrain the next turn (Duh!):goodjob:

Thanks Magister!

What does the Bera do exactly? Empty Beir and Bera were the only two promotions I couldn't figure out the source for, so it is nice to find the answers both in one thread.

Hyborem may not be working for refreshing because nobody seems to ever truthfully "Kill" him. Do you get an exp? I am pretty sure most all "Kill" mechanics are messed up with his special code to lose civ traits.

That's what I'm thinking, which is why I'm not sure there is anything wrong with Donal's recruit ability; it may be the Hyborem stuff is messed up.

I think the bier gives a +2 on defense.

Donal Lugh can be QUITE tough .....

Best wishes,

Empty Bier, as mentioned before, gives +2 to defense and doubles the unit fortification bonus.

Gela, Hyborem's axe or staff or whatever it is, gives +2 Unholy and -25% Resistance to Holy.

so that's what "Bier" in English means. It's also the dutch word for beer, so i always imagined the guy as some drunken warrior.

Hah, once my ~170 xp Basium killed, on concecutive turns, Donal Lugh and combat 5, city garrison 3 Gilden in a city w/ 60% bonus on a hill. Do not mess with The One.
