Now that we have Chalids function for adjusting the strength of units (its the best thing ever) we can consider a new way to do resources.
Instead of requiring bronze/iron/mithril for units we could underpower the units and boost them if they have the appropriate resources.
Right now we have:
1. Warrior- iCombat 2
2. Axeman- iCombat 4, requires bronze iron or mithril.
3. Maceman- iCombat 7, requires iron or mithril.
4. Pikeman- iCombat 6, requires iron or mithril.
5. Shieldwall- iCombat 12, requires iron or mithril.
6. Berserker- iCombat 11, requires iron or mithril.
7. Immortal- iCombat 12, upgrade only from a level 6 or higher maceman
8. Spartiatoi- iCombat 15, requires mithril.
For melee units (or more if we want) we could have their strength adjusted depending on the available resources so that it becomes:
1. Warrior- iCombat 2
2. Axeman- iCombat 3
3. Maceman- iCombat 5
4. Pikeman- iCombat 4
5. Shieldwall- iCombat 8, requires iron or mithril.
6. Berserker- iCombat 7, requires iron or mithril.
7. Immortal- iCombat 8, upgrade only from a level 6 or higher maceman
8. Spartiatoi- iCombat 11, requires mithril.
Bronze = +1 strength
Iron = +2 strength
Mithril = +4 strength
The above are not cumultaive, you only get the best one.
Units could recieve these bonuses when created or if passign through a city with a barracks/forge that has access to these resources. We would tag them with a promotion that represented their resource level (bronze/iron/mithril) so players could see where they were and we coudl track upgrades.
Potentially we could also allow small flavor bonuses of one weapon type against others, such that units with iron weapons get +10% against units with bronze weapons, etc.
The rust spell could also destroy this weapon promotion (and the strength bonus it granted), forcing the unit back to town to get reoutfitted.
