A small thing: the Introductory Movie

I know there are a lot of gameplay issues that need to be resolved, and there are eternal questions as to what this is going to be, or why are they doing that...

But I have something small that I think is overlooked. I'd like a better Intro Movie. Maybe something along the lines of the Civ1 intro, except modernized. Something that gives me, the longtime player, a nostalgic feeling, and gives the new player a good, whoppin' "WOW" as they load the game up for the first time.

I noticed that this is something that is usually sacrificed, as it is an aesthetic, and not vital to the gameplay. But it is vital to the psyche of the game, I think, and for give new players something to salivate over before they get their butts whooped.

I agree here, the opening cinematics on CivIII/Conquests are pretty lame. I remember the opening scene for Age of Empires, and that was *way* cooler. I know they can improve this, for that much needed eye candy.

They could probably recycle the Civ 2 intro and get more players excited then the current intro.

Heck, recycle the Civ 1 intro, but with 3d cinematics!! That would be waaaaaay cooler than the current Civ3 (all incarnations) intro.

Personally I would like to see the focus for art on things player's have to see most of the time, namely terrain, units and interface. Having some nice wonder movies and the like would be great as well, but not at the expense of what we'll be directing our gaze upon for years of our lives...

I really like the civ1 intro.

I used to play on a 486 so it would take the entire intro to generate the map.

& I watched the whole thing, everysingle time, even when I got a P2.

wow I miss those days ^^.

More than an intro movie I'd like to see and winning movie. I like the space one, but when I spend a week only to get a You Win! message, I want to see something more epic.

@Pentium: That is a most excellent idea, as well. I'd like to see different victory movies, depending on how I win.

There are a few things that I really liked about Civ1 like the intro movie, the diplomacy, the events of getting techs and building cities and wonders, the palace, the space ship victory, actually the entire ship system, even the news paper and copy protection quiz.
After a while of playing you would skip or ignore the things you had already seen, but they were some of the things that made it a great game instead of just a good game.
