A tight fit (Prince level BtS SG, tiny, max. AI)

Nice turns, LastOne. Way to get that second city in front of Sury! :D

The above is what happens when an AI leaves his capital defended by a lone warrior.
What normally happens is an AI does a stupid move that results in a bad sequence of events usually resulting in defeat.

In this instance the human player declared war on turn 3 by capturing a Byzantine worker looking to construct a gold mine outside Constantinople. The AI, enraged by this, sallies forth a stack of 2 archers and 2 warriors virtually emptying it's only city. The AI's confidence stemmed from an illusion of power over the human, which is to be forgiven as they lacked the knowledge Iron working therfore were completely oblivious brand new Iron mine outside Delhi.
The human player starts and axe in Bombay, whips it the next turn, and sends it towards Constantinople to pillage but spots the oppurtunity and pounces.

________________________________________________________________
So to summarize I captured Constantinople then declared war on Suryvarman as a gift to the next player. I wanted to stop him from hooking up copper, but he either doesn't care or doesn't know about copper yet as his workers we're busy doing other things. We have 2 swords and an axe in his territory but it might be best to just pull out and mass an army in our own borders.

Beware the Incas, they are putting cultural pressure on Constantinople.

While playing I thought of a set of rules we can place on ourselves, how about no open borders and/or no trading with the AI?

That sounds great! This is pretty much going to be an always-war game anyway.:hammer: :hammer: :hammer:

I've got the save shouuld be able to play tomorrow morning GMT. looks like is a case of continuing to clear the local area for us to settle.

We have a third city but unfortunately we dont yet have a fourth :(

Survayeman had substantial defence in his capital even when he sent out a couple of archers towards our cities there was still too much for our armies to take. After dispatching his marauders I regrouped our forces but he was still producing an archer every other turn or so, last count he had seven promoted archers defending. :mad:
I offered him peace as this war was fruitless, and immediately DOW on Incans, we have forces outisde capital and he only has 3 archers and a warrior thing to defend, we will need to move other side of the river first for better odds.
Tech wise - priesthood, pottery, and writing were researched currently Maths is being researched. I wasnt thinking of building the Oracle but as it only took 5 turns I did and took MC from it. I have started a forge in Delhi which hopefully can be whipped next turn we should immediately work a engineer to try to get a GE for bulkbing Machinery for Xbows. If we get a GP then we can build shrine in captured Incan capital. Once Maths is in we should head for Construction for catapults. We may also want some OB's to get better trade routes??

yes, archer rushing is a method the AIs know by heart :(

In my humble opinion, we should beeline for catapults ASAP! Pity you could not take CoL from the Oracle. We will need courthouses (and FP) soon.

I've got the save and will probably play today & post tomorrow.

Sorry to delay things, guys. I need to be skipped until next Tuesday. I'm having some computer issues at home.

mrwhite89: ouch! I hope you can fix things!
TLO36: a pleasure trip? :groucho:

both of you: yell when I can re-insert you in the player order!

Preturn: I cut research to zero to build up some cash – it would be rather annoying to lose our iron mine because we do not have 11 Gold to rebuild it.

Turn 81 – meet the Vikings, sign OB, still they do not like us enough to deal techs. Bleh! We should send a few units scouting - spies, once we have them. Then OB do not matter. Fermenting unrest or poisoning water can HURT in this game :) So I want Alpha ASAP. Attack Cuzco – I am usually unlucky, but that must change some day, so I give the attack a shot. Defenders are 4 Archers and a Quechua.

GOLLY!

For some reason, BtS crashes when I try to open the Ctrl-Tab window, so here’s a list of the odds:

[pre]
Raider 1 Sword vs. Def 1 Archer 20% (6 vs 7.5) --> Sword dies, no damage
Raider 1 Sword vs. Def 1 Archer 20% (6 vs 7.5) --> Sword 4.7 :eek:
Raider 1 Sword vs. Combat Archer 24% (6 vs 6.9) --> Sword 3.5
Raider 1 Sword vs. Archer 27.5% (6 vs 6.45) --> Sword 2.4
Raider 1 Axe vs. Archer 18.5% (5 vs 6.45) --> Axe dies, Archer 2.5 OK; this series had to run out at SOME point!
Raider 1 Axe vs. Archer 2.5 39% (5 vs 5.35) --> Axe 1.9 Oh----kay!
Raider 1 Axe vs. Combat Quechua 88.7% (5 vs 3.5) --> Axe 4.2

Read my lips: no more taxes…. Erh, Incans!
[/pre]

I guess I used up enough luck for several games :lol:

Lots of decisions up:

Do we adopt Budd? What do we do with our Great General? DO we trade techs? Mansa and Zara will trade Alpha and Sailing, Mansa also has Sailing.

Team decision time.

I’d trade, I’d join the GG to Bombay for the 2EP per unit, and I’d go religious and spread it like mad, simply for the money. We are and will always be the big kid on the block, so copulate with the diplo consequences of different religions!

I would trade techs but not Alpha to hold back AI tech. GG settle yes sure we will have plenty more. and yes to psread religion for shrine gold, has it already been built?? Have you whipped the forge in Delhi for engingeer or a GE??

We lack Alpha and can get it - sorry, my report should have been clearer.
No shrine yet, so we will need a GP.
No, I did not whip yet.

I guess that makes me up, as long as the saveis presented ;)

sorry - not yet :p

I played only that one turn, but it brought about all those decisions I named team issues in the OP. I was handed a very nice setup for capturing a holy city, btw - thanks, 50_dollar_bag

grrrr, one more bluescreen because of BtS and I'm gonna kick my PC out the window! I played the last turns 3 times, despite saving on each turn, simply because I had around 15 crashes during that time.

Nothing much happened: I whipped and I roaded (I HATE detours because an enemy has one unit in my lands on the only road). CoL will take a while due to financial hardships. I traded for Montheism, and we are now Organized. Please spread Buddhism fast. Caution, though: I over-whipped Cuzco, so I had to use a chop for a temple already (not too bad, and the timing was luckily just right). Still, do NOT whip the missionaries for a while, until the worst unhappiness wears off. The last whip was two turns ago and will last 15 turns with one :mad:

I am building ToA in the capital for two reasons: we can use a GP, we can use the trade route yield, and we can use the cash if someone nabs it this turn.

I would prefer not to fight anyone until we have catapults. Simply said, everyone either has copper or is too far off. Next victim should be Japan, as they seem to be on a peninsular.

Here's a screeny:
