A warning for league players

So I joined the civplayers.com league and tried an FFA (free-for-all) yesterday. 5 people, one person quit, so they come in last ok I got it. But on turn 117 the game crashed, we tried reloading a few times, and the other players gave up. The decited to vote (???) on the result using the Civ 5 "score" which heavily weights city spam.

In this game I rolled India, so I had few big cities, was #1 in population and #1 in tech, but the "score" showed me in 4th. As I was invading the "second place" player's city spam, whose strongest unit was a pike (move 117 on quick here) and he was last in tech and soldiers, the game crashes. That guy naturally wants to vote to make the score official, he was about to lose. The puppet empire guy naturally wants to make the score official, he is in the "lead." The guy in "third" naturally wants to vote to make it official because he was in the process of becoming "#1's" puppet.

I declined the submitted results, I really hope they have a control to prevent people from submitting garbage like this. Here is the scorecard:

"1st" puppet empire, soldiers #1, a case for winning
"2nd" weak city spam, last in tech by far, last in soldiers, about to lose
"3rd" being puppeted by "1st" soon to lose
"4th" me with tech #1, pop #1 and soldiers #2 about to puppet "2nd"
"5th" quit while "1st" was puppeting him

I am still shocked this game was even attempted to be submitted as official.

If anybody wants to play a league FFA, make sure ahead of time you all agree that voting on the outcome if it crashes is absurd, especially that early in the game.

One would think that if you can't finish the game, it doesn't count.

Else -> spam spam spam, crash. WIN!

The scoring system should not be used as any form of actual 'value metric' since it doesn't take much of anything useful into consideration.

Please check out the official rules on voting via CivPlayers forum. You will see it must be a unanimous decision. You were in the correct to decline the game according to what you said. Its possible the player reporting was going for a cheap win. Eventually the game will be investigated by a admin on the site and likely deleted.

There is no reason to come complaining to this forum and possibly driving away players from the site, we are mostly a friendly bunch who enjoy ladder civ5. And that game is a small sample size of all the games played in the league.

The only time the civ 5 scoring system is never used to determine winners of a game unless its a turn limit game, or the final year of the entire game. If its a turn limit game, you adjust your strategy accordingly.

I am not sure if I found the right link, after poking around I found this:

I would have not found it if you had not posted here, thank you for doing so.

My experience with duels has been positive, I have recommended the league in an earlier post. That was my first FFA leauge experience, I want to have an experience that I can recommend to this forum. I have enjoyed the No-Quitter group, I want to be able to say the same thing about the league. I would have never joined the league had it not been for this forum, Tommynt did a post and that got me interested.

I think the league has a lot of potential, the players need to know about it and then become interested. I see the league as a restaurant, with critics giving their reviews... if I get a good meal I will give it 5 stars, but if the meal is bad...

Sometimes there are situations in which certain players are more difficult to play with than others also. Its like knowing not to order the cole slaw ;)

Yes if you have an issue in a league game then the Civplayers forum would have been the place to post this, and I would have answered it much faster than here.

The official Civplayers rules are here, and they cover voting on games very clearly.

Thank you for pointing that out, I looked under the Civ 5 posts, but I didn't look under:

Civilization Players Forums » Global Boards » CivPlayers Global Discussion » Global Rules » Final CivPlayer Rules

Also, I could not send a message using Civplayers, when it asked to type in the letters in a graphic, I couldn't get the graphic up (red X appeared), turned pop-up windows on, probably an error on my end.
