A way to get 2 settlers all the time?

I've noticed in the game that two settler units at the beginning of the game is difficult or impossible on the higher difficulty levels. Is there something I can do so that I can get two settlers all the time when I start the game? I don't really care about tech and the like from the beginning, but two settlers nearly doubles your initial production, and is a big advantage to expansionist isolationists, like me.

If you play on the Deity level, you will always get two Settlers.

Otherwise, you will only get two if the game thinks your starting position is bad enough to warrant the extra Settler to offset it. From what I have heard, you can help increase the odds of this by playing one of the Civs that is placed last on the map (like the purple player).

Hmm, that's interesting. I don't know if I want to go to Deity yet though. I think I'll try it for a few games and see what happens. So there's nothing I can do to the game code so that it always happens?

If you are not concerned about it,you can hit the cheat menu and create a 2nd settler at the beginning.Your score will say cheat menu toggled but who cares?..heck make yourself 3 or 4 if you like :D

If you wanna get rid of the cheat thing then after you have created your 2nd settler save it as a scenario.

Once you have settled your first city you have a chance of getting a Nomad Settler or an Advanced Tribe from a hut. Explore your neighborhood as much as possible. Once you get off your starting continent you have an even higher chance of getting a Nomad or AT on other continents.

There is a production trick that if you can finish a settler before your first and only city grows to size 2 you get the settler but the city does not disband. It is still supported, though.

Many people care if "Cheat" shows up in their score - - don't look to this as your answer. People cheat enough as it is - - - if you keep playing, you’ll be fine.

I dont want to start a new thread with this, and this seems an appropriate thread so...

I used to play Civ2 ALOT, but have moveed on to civ 3 since last december. I was always confused why sometimes i would get 2 settlers and others only 1. Why is this? (i would play on high levels...)

ps I hate cheating in Civ 2. It takes the fun out of the game

As said above, the level affects how many settlers you get, but also terrain affects it. If you start in bad terrain, i.e. a lot of jungles, deserts, swamps, mountains, (plains), and not much grassland and rivers(?), you are more likely to get more techs and two settlers. If you get good terrain, it's the other way around. Usually the white civ has better terrain than the purple civ, because the purple civ gets its starting location last and the white civ first. The others in between are the same order as the list where you chose your civ when you start a new game.

So, the reason why you sometimes get two settlers and more techs is because you have bad terrain around.

You ALWAYS get two settlers if playing at Deity; other levels it is based on terrain and proximity to other civs, as funxus stated.
