Over the years that I've been playing Civ, I've started numerous creations: An ancient-era mod similar to Anno Domini, a "Rise of Rome" scenario exclusively in Italy (which is almost ready for Alpha, incidentally), a medieval-start mod designed specifically to exclude the ancient era, and so forth. Lately, however, I've been very interested in the First World War, and thus I have started work on a scenario for it.

"But it's been done before!" Yes, I realize that. However, when I played Rocoteh's scenario, I was kind of disappointed. It just seemed... unfinished to me. There were loads of minor details that thoroughly annoyed me. So I decided to embark on making a version of my own, from the ground-up.

What I did not want though, was to spend a bunch of time working on a big huge scenario, lose interest or reach an impasse, and just stop working on it. So that's why I decided that, unlike other works (aside from the ancient age mod, which proved unfeasible anyways), I would post my progress here on the forums. So thus, I bring you:

Thus far I have finished Europe proper (and I am quite satisfied with the results), but I still have to do North Africa, most of Russia, and the Middle East to do.

Some notes on the design:

I plan to make this a fairly lightweight scenario, similar in scale to AoI, not one of those behemoth 1000+ unit scenarios. The opportunity for Germany in the early game will be tremendous, and a good (and somewhat lucky) German player should be able to achieve a rapid victory (and be home by Christmas). However, if Germany goes all-out in the early game and fails to achieve victory, an early Entente victory will be a real possibility. Regardless, in most cases the war will turn out to be a brutal war of attrition.

As the war goes on, your people will start getting more and more angry. War weariness will be on high for all governments, meaning that avoiding riots will be very hard, and general strikes (anarchy) will be inevitable. If you fail to achieve success by occupying some of your enemies borderlands, revolutionaries and their ilk will ravage your land and even threaten to take you out of the war (in which case you lose dramatically). Become too successful, though, and the "conquered" peoples will start to rebel against your occupation, tying up valuable troops. Drafting is a powerful way to bolster your army numbers, but will undermine your industrial production and make your populace even more uneasy.

The scenario will also invoke some of the latest and greatest modding toys, such as charm, teleport, deep-sea harbors and everything else. Gold will be very hard to come by, meaning losing units to undersupplying is a constant danger. Certain units, such as artillery, will need to be upgraded (for a price) from the version that is produced in your cities. Most European powers, however, can receive shipments of gold from the Americas, Africa, and Asia. These will need to be transported back to your capital, which can be quite the challenge if the enemy controls the seas.

Technology will also run according to a timeline, so science spending won't be necessarily. I'm still uncertain about how to represent war in the air and poison gas.

Anyways, thanks for reading, and if you have any suggestions, please to hesitate to tell me here, via PM or email. :hatsoff:
