Look, its raining! Again!
There has been a lot of unrest regarding the strictness of the mods, I think it's fine, but some people don't like the way they go about their job (too strict etc...). What I am proposing is a sort of yellow card system a lot like the kind in a soccer match. If you have gone out of line at the mods don't like it, instead of issuing a short ban you could replace the offender's avatar with a picture of a yellow card or something of that nature. Depending on how serious the offence was the yellow card could have different expirey dates. By using this system we could remove some of the contreversy that comes with banning yet still caution the offending member in an appropriate way. Of course if the member offends again whilst he still has a yellow card then he would be banned.

Attached is a picture of what the yellow card-avatar could look like.

What do you think?

Most excellent. I'm not familiar with the controversy, but I like the idea.

You could put the big whistle-blow on the offending post.

Perhaps some virtual dishwashing could also be done - allow remediation through creating new icons, posting apologies, etc.

Someone mentioned the need for a clapping icon - I second that.

Interesting, its certainly NOT a bad idea, I dont see it being done though.

An interesting idea, but, no, I don't see it ever happening.

First, a moderator is unable to change a user's avatar. Only Thunderfall can do that.

Second, the "expiration time" is not automatic. Someone (TF, again) has to go in and update the user's profile.

We already have a system in place. You don't get banned the first time you say or do something out of bounds (unless you spam the site with porn, or something ;) ). You get a warning. Maybe several warnings. (Anytime you see Moderator Action in one of your posts, take notice! Somebody's trying to tell you something.) Only if you don't seem to be learning will you get banned. And again, not permabanned. Maybe just for a couple days. Then a week. Or two. Maybe a month. etc.

If a poster gets banned, it means they screwed up big-time. And apologies *do* help. I have seen 2-week bans shortened to 3 days. I have seen bans cleared in under an hour.

And yes, we need an "applause" smiley. :D

Okay, I can see where it could go wrong.

And all these calls for an applause smilie, why not use this :

Hmm?

Anyway, I might use that yellow-card thing as my avatar....when I get 300 posts....

*Sigh*

Uhhh...:cringe: that reminds me of the book Frindle; a teacher, Miss Granger, would always catch you chewing gum and would stick the gum to a yellow card that you would have to wear all day, and get signed by your parent.

vB 3.0 will have an auto-unban feature.

Maybe for repeat offenders can that avatar be tacked on there...hee hee hee.

(2000th post! :D)

 My mom used to have a teacher who would make kids that chewed gum stick it on the end of their nose for the day. :p She would get caught on purpose. ;)

Anyhow, yes, people WILL do it just for the attention. It's the nature of the beast.

When someone gets banned, TF just has to enter the length of the ban (or maybe the ending data - unsure), and when the time is up, the banned poster will automatically be unbanned. Right now, TF has to check our internal "ban list", and make sure he unbans people at the appropriate time.

The yellow card idea isn't bad, if it could be properly implemented.

Though, I think the current system of the mods just warning people probably works better, because someone with a yellow card could become a public spectacle and suffer needless humiliation (and people posting inappropriate things about them).

A better idea is to actually read the site rules.

In fact, I highly recomend that.

Whenever I see a MODERATOR ACTION in one of my posts I USUALLY take notice.

I think this is a pretty good idea, but people may be trying to do it to change titles. For example when Sween32 got banned many people changed their titles to 'Free Sween'. I think to many people would do that.

Good idea though.

If anybody EVER pulls that again, they will be gone.

I hope that there is a ";)" that I couldn't see, anarchy. ;)
