Hello, I've posted this somewhere else but didn't get any response. So I'm posting it here hoping for some assistance.

I've been planning on getting Civilization IV so i went to amazon and found that there is a Complete Edition for the game. Which has the original game with two expansions Warlords and BeyondTheSword. But one of the review comments on the product page was about a problem in that edition. That when you install the game from the "complete edition" to your computer. The folder name would be "Sid Meier's Civilization IV Complete" instead of "Sid Meier's Civilization IV" and since the patches and updates for the game are programmed to download to "Sid Meier's Civilization IV" folder they wouldn't find the specified folder because it has "Complete" in it.

So one of the guys said that all you need to do is to erase the "Complete" word from the folder name.

My question is. Would that really solve the problem? and if i did change would i get all the updates and patches to the game normally with no problems?

Or you guys recommend me to buy the original game and the BtS expansion separately to avoid such problems.
Thanks. :king:

Welcome to CFC :band:

Complete edition has all patches except 3.17 - and 3.17 should install just fine on Complete Edition. There should be no need to jump through any hoops :)

sorry I lost your other thread from sight: I answered there :)

Hi, I was the one who added that note about changing the install folder. Based on some threads I looked at here, and the review at Amazon, I saw that some people had trouble getting the patch to install, and it was creating separate folders. Actually, the reason I came to this forum in the first place was because of that review. I wanted to find out what I would need to do to get the patch to work if I was to buy the Complete edition. I read something about having to merge folders in order to get the game patched.

So, when I bought the game and started to install it, I noticed that the folder was different, so I thought that maybe the reason could have been due to the game installing in a different folder from what the original game would have installed in by default. So, I changed the install folder, and I didn't have any problems with the patch. Since others DID have problems, I assumed that this was a fix for the problem.

Another user here told me this was unnecessary, and that the patch would have worked anyway. He said the other users' problems were probably due to them having the original game installed, then buying the Complete edition and installing that over it.
