I find this guy quite annoying. I was playing the C3C epic game and i ran into some trouble with the Arabs, oh of course they sneaked attacked first; oh i would never attack another civ: (cross my heart and hope to die & stick a needle in my eye)

Anyway I saw Abu baker's ansar worriers and a few infantry tiptoeing through my territory. I asked them to leave and he said "oh glorious be upon you, we will leave now". I waited a few turns and i asked him again. He replied, " we will immediately".

By this time I know that war was upon me so I prepared. I finally asked Abu baker to leave and he decaled war....

As anybody had any troubles with the Arabs.

they did sneaked on me once, but well, i had all my spearmen ready for them that time... but they were using wariors though and that was very very early in the game... needless to say, a few hundred years later, i wiped them out! =)

It's not just the Arabs. It's any civ that thinks you're too weak.

Abu Baker? Yes I once asked him for a dozen bread rolls and only gave me 10
Seriously, any Civ that sees you as weak will cheat like that, because they think they can wipe you out and therefore it is worth a rep hit

no civ will leave your territory alone, when you ask it politely, and eventually they will declare war, most often

The Arabs did the same thing to me to get out of a gold-per-turn deal for tech. I'd been giving them cheap tech all game to help them keep pace so I could use them as trading partners, then as soon as I charge them a decent rate per turn for an important tech they sneak attack me! Ungrateful *&*%^&*

But like others have pointed out, it's not just the Arabs. THey are probably among the more aggressive civs but they will all do it to you if they can. Even sweet old Gandhi who looks like ghee wouldn't melt in his loincloth.

Too weak?? In my current game I fought off three AI blood-feuds form weaker civs. They sneak attack, sign peace, sneak attack, sign peace, sneak attack, etc. until they are dead! Each time they sign peace, they give me tribute, too. I would have lived in peace, but they insisted on me destroying them.

Isn't it good that the AI sneak attacked you?? I like that.

What else do you want them to do?? sit there and wait till you get so strong that you can wipe them out in 2 turns??

...unless you are much stronger than them!

It helps to have an important trade agreement like giving them aluminum or something they don't want to lose so they won't risk making you angry often.

Dida don't get us wrong it's just that when you sign peace
with the A.I they tend to atack again in just a few turns.

I personaly don't like to be on the recieving end of an A.I M16 rifle,and seeing 200+ troops mass near your boarder would make any civ player nervous

I understand, it makes me nervous sometimes, but only when I am too weak to hold them off. I enjoy fighting the AI troops on the field rather than at a city.
I like it when the AI does something smart, such as sneak attacking. It shows they are unpredictable and give the game more dynamic.

Hey, it's not me that thinks you're weak, it's the AI.

Who knows why the AI does what it does? The AI thinks you're weak, it's going to attack you. If you have something they want, they'll attack you. Basically, if you're breathing, and not obviously stronger that the AI, you'll get attacked.

ANd if you're breathing, and *are* obviously stronger than the AI, you might still get attacked!

The US was stronger than Japan and yet Japan struck at Pearl Harbor. The US was stronger than bin Laden, but yet bin Laden attacked New York City.
If it is in the AI's interests, they will start war whether you are stronger or not. But if you are very strong, the probability they will start war is less because they have less chance of winning.

Sometimes, I think the AI just attacks out of sheer boredom. What other motivation could they possible have?

Heh, as yo uplay Civ 3 more and more you will devlop a nemeis, or maybe some nemeses

For example the Russians always, ALWAYS attack me, i've heard others complain the Zulus always target them, the Celts always backstab them etc.

It's funny that Firaxis doesn't program specific AI to be a pain but everyone has some certain Civ they really hate

i hate the ottoman guy too,in pretty damn near every single game ive played he has sneack attacked,sometimes 4 sneak attakes in a row after peace!!

this latest game,he was my neighbour and ally and i foolishly started to change my mind about him...

send my huge army way away to kill the iroquis,my ottoman "friend" and ally declares war on me and takes 3 cities!!

i took those back + 2 of his,ill take the rest of it soon,my army is rolling over them like a friggin tsunami!!

YEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWW!!

I bet its actually that every AI is a pain, and will backstab you, its just that certain people happen to get paired up with one civ more often than the rest so thats who they notice.
