Acid_02: Cyrus, CC

Actually i lowered the whole thing to Monarch since nobody wanted to play Cyrus on Emperor
You want to join? I'll open one more slot.

by the way, what do you think of "random personality" option? :D I'm sure that would be really interesting and hard at the same time.

Ill join if you will open another slot. I think cyrus is better on emperor than monarch, but ill play nonetheless.

I agree with the random personality, I always prefer to do something different and random stuff is great IMO. Plus I havent tried that option yet, and it will make the monarch game a bit more interesting, atleast make up for the 1 lower difficulty :).

random is fine with me too

Yes, open borders with Toku before the ADs. That would be a first for me.

Starting position

I'd settle in place. Do we want to gamble with AH first, or mining-> BW
We need IW faster then usual since this is tropical so unless we are far north or south we'll have some jungle chopping to do.

We start with hunting, so the AH path is viable, if we dont have horses, we can always go archery which is a relatively cheap tech (or straight to BW from AH, since barbs wont be too bad on monarch)

I think AH here can work out, with our UU if we do have horses somewhere nearby.

As far as settling in place, is that coast to our south? I think we should settle in place but grabbing the coast by moving 1S can work out if it is coast.

@acid : you can check if one of the tiles south has fresh water by hovering to know if it's a lake or not. I like settling in place too. Even if it's coast south, we'll have only one tile in the BFC, so not being able to build lighthouse isn't big deal
@Qwack : barbs are off so unless we have a close nuts neighbour, there is no immediate threat

Ah right, wasnt paying attention. I would go AH and try to take out someone with a immortal rush :).

I think i'll still go with BW first since that early chopping for settler really helps, we'r also going to know map by that point so we can grab horses.
By the way, this is random personality, so evryone is a potential nuts neighbour :D

Screw scouting, I just settled in place.
So much for the coast.
Start mining [11].
Pop 103 gold from a hut.
Scouting east reveals marble.
Pop a map from a hut. That's a lot of jungle.

Meet Tokugawa! Can he be our best friend in this game? Hardly, he's too close.

toku7er.jpg

Pop 95 gold from a hut.
Meet Sahaladin.

Capitol -> warrior -> worker.
Pop 40 gold from a hut.
BW in, worker done, start chopping for a settler, start AH. No bronze in sight.
Buddhism & Hindu FIDL. Sahaladin converts to Hindu.
Meet Elizabeth. By the way, everyone, including Tokugawa, is pleased with everyone else. Usually Toku would be still cautions at this point.

Settler should claim horses if we see any, and after AH go directly for IW.

I loaded the save and feel like settling on red dot. What's wrong with this copper ? Too far ? Remember we are creative

spot.jpg

red dot looks good

I chose IW after AH. farmed the corn and mined the hill/wine. I invested hammers on barracks in capital and switched to worker on size 3

We were reminded of our pitiful research pace :

Founded Pasargadae on red dot. Iron working is due in 15 and will help to clear all the jungle tiles there. There are horses to the east but the spot is not great. I preferred to keep it for next city

Here's the 2200 BC save

looks good. our capital will have rather poor productoin later, we need to leave some of the plains/forest...some cottages would fit nicely there as well. Let's hook up that bronze asap, and settle one S from horses i think.
IW-> writing seems natural i guess. Too ealry to work cottages

Looks like a solid enough start.

Capital isn't a fantastic spot, probably have to work cottages once we have production on line elsewhere.

Do we want a third city (horses ?) before we pay toku a call ?

As we are going to war early and hard and have lots of jungle, IW before pottery makes sense I think. I will be getting pottery soon though.

Writing for open borders then ?
