Acid_04: The final frontier

Lurkers Comment :
It took me a few days but I managed to read the entire thread .
Excellent play so far , sadly that vassal caused you guys so much trouble or you would have been in a better position .
At least its a learning experience for next time .

Really looking forward to see how this one plays out , GL dream team .

I too have read this thread from the beginning and I have to say you guys are doing a great job. Can't want to see your play acidsatyr. I can't get over how fast the AI is teching on Deity and the amount of units it's throwing at you. I am sure you will find a way to beat this one.

I was literary staring at this position for few days now, making sure I’ll make the right choice. As much as I hate giving up one of our cities, especially since I always play this game with emotions, I think I made a right thing here by giving Japan Visigoth and ending this war. Was it the right choice? I think so, but I made a mental note to play this position differently once this SG is over. There is a very slim chance of us wining this one, whatever path we take. The reasons why I gave up Visigoth is because:

- power graph. By the number of units we have I see we can put a formidable defense, but the question was for how long. Japan produces units with ridiculous easiness now and I didn’t want to lose our chance to end this war since we can’t attack his continent anyway. I’m guessing I would have to resort to drafting, whipping, lowering population, WW, etc, etc
- we are more than 40 turns away from UN and we won’t built it ourselves, I think that’s pretty clear. The question is who’s going to get it. My guess is Toku. If Toku gets it, It means it’s either him or us for secretary, and since Shaka will vote for Toku, we can’t win. So our best chance will be to try to run offensive war against Shaka, if we can. I don’t see what else we can do.
- Alex. I am writing this as I play, but I’ll see if he does anything in my turnset. It would be really, really, really damn good if he could declare on Shaka.

Anyway, all these things made me get peace with Toku.

turn 1
-------

Build Akhatetan, SE from Thebes. Basically I want to fill some gaps and get few extra pops. End war with Japan (he landed about dozen of units around Visigoth), btw he wont take Hakodate. Started bunch of resource boats, don’t want to trade my resources away to Japan. Gave free rice to Alex.

turn 2
-------

Toku comes asking Wheat for Wince, I refuse. He wants to build city there, but we’re faster. Hieraconpolis is founded.

Creative trait can be still very useful. Now that health is back online, cities can grow again.

turn 3
-------

Building mostly units, health buildings, some universities.

turn 4
-------
zzzzzz

turn 5
--------
Toku completes another SS Casting.

turn 6
--------
Another SS Casting by Toku. Boring turns, building units, observatories where needed, etc, all health building I can build.

turn 7
--------
Korean revolt in Pyongyang. Alex build SS Casting.

turn 8
--------
Flight is in. Going to start Electricity so I can trade with Alex. And Japan builds UN, man…… not so fast...
Zulu built SS Trusters, Greece build SS Casting.

turn 9
--------
Give Alex Flight for Electricity + 520 gold.

turn 10
--------

We are first in score again, but that won’t win us a game. Rocketry is done in 4 turns. Voting for Secretary pops up, I vote for Toku ofcourse. Shaka builds 2 SS Thrusters, Japan build SS Casting. There is a report of sabotage mission near Boston (oil).

turn 11
--------

Didn’t move anything, but had to see vote result ofcourse. Save is still on turn 10.
We lost by very little, having more farms would’ve helped.
Toku wins with 468 votes vs. our 449.

Like I said the only chance seems to run one more offensive war against Shaka before everyone finishes space race.

Have fun !
-----------

You can see a very sharp increase in our powergraph.

btw,
Game crashed two times in turn 2 and 7, I don’t know if that’s my computer, or something else. Some dll error message.

are we just going to sit back to let the rest win? On the other hand, how are we going to do anything against Shaka?
And remember getting Secretary General requires far less votes, nobody will win the UN, but they will simply win the beloved SS...how anticlimatic

i would do this more conventioanal way, nuking risks loosing alex's votes.

by the way, our vassal proves really useful, he gave us 15 votes  :) :(
:wallbash: :gripe:

that about sums it up.

We might have some chance agains Shaka. We could possibly lunch nuke or two on his largest stack, but i am agains any heavy use of nukes sinec we dont want to loose Alex's votes. And miss the point of war completely.

What I am not sure about is how mach shields I need to invest into Figters/bombers. Even figters provide resonable amount of collateral damage and for stack with out AA defence they could be engoth.
Personally I never used Nukes, as I allways believe that AI with there shields bonuses build them mach faster. I allways was passing non profliteration pact.
But if no nukes we need some source of mass non cyicide collateral damage.
I feel that to build a bunch of figters could be agood idea. Tehy do not have exp, so buiding them in nonmain mil production cities could be a good idea.

What do you think folk?

save

Pre-Turn
First thing I do is to get rid of those huge lines, ugly really
go through cities, do not know how we are going to beat that monster

1. 1832AD
just for the record:
Shaka needs 5 more parts for the SS...

2. 1834AD
It's actually better to just press enter as the game is so laggy...
nevertheless I check every turn whether we can pull something off

3. 1836AD
someone is sabotaging out oil, wouldn't be surprised if it is actually our vassal

4. 1838AD
rocketry is in, and now comes the rubbish I really hate about the UN...

picture is taken after pressing enter, which the save didn't....(was just curious)
shaka.jpg

vote against it of course...
I do not really know how to continue from here...

am going to buy a new computer tomorrow and I won't install CIV first...so I guess Muti is up now, good luck
honestly, with all things redded out, we can't win this game...Shaka will throw massive amounts of units at us...

you're right Muti...now I realize

sorry for this mishap...but I only played 4 turns as this game is a little too much for my computer to handle. I had a big problem seeing anything on this cluttered map...

I got us rocketry and now we can decide what we need next. Tanks would help, but this spy disconnects our oil...

He can't. Disconnecting is expensive. Also, place some obsolete units on top of oils and the chance of success will greatly decrease.

It's not Wang. Why blame the poor guy? He has no Scotland Yard, or national wonders for that matter. He's got academy and military academy.

It's probably Shaka. His Scotland Yard is in kwaDukuza. I took a look around his cities and that's what I found:

kwaDukuza - SY, academy

uM-gun-gund-lov-u - military academy, Ironworks

Ulundi - National Epic, Oxford, academy

Nongoma - military academy

Nobamba - Heroic Epic, academy. Also, world wonders of note - Versailles, Pentagon

Ondini - Forbidden Palace

Kushans - Wallstreet, Rushmore

Ndondakusuka - Hermitage

I didnt see Globe or Westpoint. Might have missed them - or maybe they were in cities captured in the war.

and here's some Toku:

Tokyo - Globe, Forbidden Palace; Kremlin, UN

Kagoshima - Rushmore

Nagoma - Wallstreet

Kyoto - Hermitage, Scotland Yard, academy; Eiffel

Did you get this information about Shaka's cities through the world builder? Please remove it if you did. Or is it actually possible to glean the details from zooming in those cities? If it is, sorry for the accusations.

Personal opinion: I agree that if they were builder civs, the SS would've been launched centuries ago, because while you could run over Ghandi and Mansa Musa with rifles, Stalin on the other continent would launch anyway.

Will Toku be stupid enough to call for a diplomatic win if there is a good chance you will be able to get it?

If so, great, but lame

If not, then why hold back on the nukes? Seems like you would need everything you can muster against Shaka.
