I reached Astronomy on turn 95 last night, and could have gotten in at 91 or 92 but I feel asleep at the switch and forgot to sign a 3rd research agreement. Here were some things I noticed from my attempt post-patch:
-Early research agreements were costing me 300 gold, the greedy AI was screwing me over and charging me an extra 100 gold and often Open Borders to make the deal.
-I got Writing done by turn 10 after I ran into a goodie hut for it. That was no doubt a lucky break which saved me a few turns.
-I didn't sell any luxuries to get funds, I just kept taking over encampments (Songhai) for the gold.
I was playing out a Songhai game this week and still was running into problems getting down the research tree, I didn't get the Cristo until turn 315 or something crazy like that...BUT I only had once city and I wasn't using RA's much. I'm thinking I need two cities to be most effective and micro the RA's. I also picked Piety by accident which didn't allow me to get the research tree, which probably hurt. I'm trying to pinpoint the main reasons why I still can't get this win any faster than 375 turns!
Happy Holidays!
