Acularius' GEM for Caveman2Cosmos

Well, I have a laptop again. (Last one died a valiant death - Video card and mother board coupled with my hard drive just all decided to quit)
What changes have been made?
Fixed my signature to reflect my absence.
Back in University.

Reinstalling Civilization 4.

Okay, well we are getting into test season, but I will take a look at it today or tomorrow depending on how much I study for my Programming test.

Of Course! This map hasn't been touched for a month or something like that, so a couple of weeks aren't an issue.

Is it a bad idea to use 'start as minor civs' on this map?

Why is that, just out of curiosity??

It seems really tough to wait until you can get Open Borders simply to be able to move around on the cramped map... but I'm scared that half the civs will die before Writing becomes commonplace.

I used to play the precolumbian GEM on deity with minor start and razing cities allowed. Usually, the Zulu would emerge as the leading AI. Whole landscapes were barbarian, if city razing was enabled or not and barb civs were not enabled. If barb civs were enabled, however, a lot of revolting normal civs cities turned barbarian because there was only barbarian influence on the tiles surrounding the revolting sites and also because of the max #of civs allowed in the game was already hit.

Last times I played GEM, deity (AI starts with 2 cities) again but without minor civs and I have to say Egypt tended to dominate then. More economic tiles around starting places. At Eternity Speed, Egypt reached Sendentary Lifestyle about 120 turns or so before me (England) but didn't manage to have more cities so I considered this game won as I claimed France and Spain for me and had fortified at the Rhine and pillaged Northern Italy ;-)

Interestingly, Ireland had a city with like 50 barbs wandering over the small island but never setting any troops over to england... that would have slowed down my conquest of France, the Netherlands and Spain a lot...
I hoped for Ireland to emerge into an independent civ at some point but it didn't happen, maybe as all slots were full

I've been trying to play the North Star version of the map from earlier in the topic with the latest mod version but I'm having trouble - I seem to be starting in a random location instead of in the pre-set location (for example, I played one of the Chinas and started out in South America). Is there a version with the traditional start locations or has something gone wrong for me or what am I doing?

Edit: Oh, wait, I believe I'm confusing No-Preset with Pre-Colombian, aren't I? I'm sorry, I thought that might refer to the version with few civilizations.

Is there any way to adjust the starting era? I really want to play this map but I don't want to have to play through the prehistoric era

Then this is NOT the modmod for you, no offense, but this is what this C2C is all about, infact thats one of the BEST areas of C2C IMPO:rolleyes:
But if you want to start (i guess:sad:) in the ancient era, i believe that the only option we have corrected to, you'd have to talk to DH.

What version of this is currently packaged with the C2C SVN? I ask because it seems to only have 32 civs in its pre-columbian version, and I was under the impression that there's supposed to be 50.
