Adding buildings help

Ozy they are in the same scen folder and it is driving me bat s*** because the bldg pcx files are in the right folder and the scen properties is looking for the scen folder as that is the only place all the Martian stuff goes. The bldgs show up in the civilopedia and only in the city screen and editor does it show the other bldgs not the one listed. Example is in the editor civilopedia entry box for the blood farm it shows blood farm, but in the pics down to the left it shows commercial dock. And in the game it shows the right pic in the civilopedia and tech tree, but in the city it shows commercial dock. That is what is driving me bat s*** because i can not get the pics to match the civilopedia. And yes the Buildings large and small are in the art/city screen folder of the scenario.

If you or anybody else knows why this is doing this PLEASE help of the scen will look fubared. The bldgs work they just do not look like they should in the city screen.

Did you edit pediaicons.txt? -- here, for example, is how the Art Of War finds its icon row (37 -- but that's fubar; as I look at the .pcx, least none of the numbers in the .txt directly gibe with the row # as printed on the .pcx -- but if you're doing a replacement, try just using the # for whatever you're pasting over ...)

#ICON_BLDG_Art_of_War
SINGLE
37
art\civilopedia\icons\buildings\aowlarge.pcx
art\civilopedia\icons\buildings\aowsmall.pcx

Good Luck,

Oz

Well i was trying not to replace anything and i added new lines to the pediaicons. When you add bldgs at the end of the extened bldgs pcx do you need a new number in the pediaicons file

Here is an example from the pediaicons file

#ICON_BLDG_Blood_Farm
SINGLE
89
art\civilopedia\icons\buildings\bloodfarmlarge.pcx
art\civilopedia\icons\buildings\bloodfarmsmall.pcx

Is there anything wrong with this entry?

Cheers Thorgrimm

There can't be as I copied it and only modded the title, number and file name (BTW Thorgrimm I have to force upgrade to MSN 6.1 in order to use MSN now so I'll be a while)

PS EDIT -- I just checked Ukas' tutorial in which he claims line #s were abandoned for PTW.

--Even more confused,

Whats that? If you mean the high number ignore that, I have not had the chance to change it now that I replaced the SS parts again.

That is just the last number i used as i tried every number up to 100 and it still showed the same pics, nothing changed.

So i am stumped as everything is where it is supposed to be.

Why are you guys discussing the pediaicons.txt, if the problem is in the city view?

I think that the pcx is in the wrong place, or has been renamed, or something like that.

Mrtn the pcx files are in the right place see earlier post. and it is named right.

Just looked into the buildings-large.pcx -- I thought you pasted the new gfx over one of the slots of the SS parts? Or is this an updated file (since your gfx appear at the bottom end of the slots, and the SS parts are still there...)

Actually thats an old one now, as Thorgrimm had me use the expanded one and paste over the space ship parts. looking at the name that should be the correct one. Odd.

It's in the pediaicon text file thats what the number is for. BTW could the source of the problems be the fact that the background is not the usual pink?

Let me make this clear, I will not allow this thread to die. Any help wolud be greatly appreciated. My leading theory on what is causng this problem is that the background is purplish instead of pink.

The background colour isn't important if it's in the right place in the palette. And as the problem was "I see space ship parts", not "I see purple everywhere", that shouldn't be it.
I still think that the buildings*.pcx has the wrong name, or is in the wrong place. Or that there is a problem in the scenario search folder.
And as the civilopedia apparently is working you should all forget about that for now, imnsho.

Right folder and even if not, I moved the main buildings .pcx fil to a folder somwhere else and put in my buildings so that even if in the wrong folder it would use mine still
