OK, I've made some samples from the Bright Blue. For those familiar with image processes, this is just basic desaturation, to show the idea.
Note: there are some artifacts in the 2nd generation JPEG banner saves (the main CivFanatics graphic), which are because of the 2nd generation (e.g., the artifacts can be eliminated in the final revision).
The bottom two are Serpia and Semi-Serpia (SemiSerpia leaves some of the original blue... the Serpia converts fully to the "Antique" look):
I have attached the Semi-Serpia buttons to this post, with the same caveat as before... I still need all of the 80+ buttons you mentioned in order to do a complete, and properly named set.

It's an excellent idea and one you should definately go forward with.
The buzz words with web sites these days are 'dynamic' & 'functionality'. So inlcuding a choice of different forum styles to use, would certainly make your site content dynamic and include functionality.
And I've seen a few capable people on the board; that would be more than able to help and ease the workload. But remember you have the final say; so use it!
(Plus they'll work for free!!)

But in the long run I have no doubt you will find it will be worthwhile. For your site and for the others that frequent it.

I think it must be related to the calender. If you ever look at it, you will see a list of everyone's birthdays for each month. Its possible to add private events to the calender whioch only you can see, but not public events.

So long as you don't want to be known by your specific style, I think this is a wonderful idea.
Thunderfall, is there any chance that you would be making a darker style? I think this forum is great, but in comparison to the other forum that I frequent, it's hard on the eyes when it comes to brightness. Is there any chance you would be making a style that has an extremely dark background, and with the default font being white? I'm not sure if you're able to do that (font fixes)...

I vote for at least two with consideration on ergonomics (eyestrain reduction). One is already done (intentional or not... the Pale White is excellent for bright light conditions, thanks TF!).
The other needs to be at the blues wavelength, and functional. This means subdued, as I have spent a couple hours posting.
TF, if you will attach a complete button set, I can make some examples for you to look at. I can also make buttons what are whatever color or almost whatever special effects, too (but I'm not a button artist... I need the original to start from , and batch process!).
You can just zip the buttons in your \images\darkblue directory, for instance (the button set will be only about 70 KB or so). I have about 60 of the 80 buttons already, but to make it work effortlessly for you, I need the complete set.

yeah, batch processing is like the only practical way to modify 80+ images. Do you have any program that does that?
AFAIK, there are lots of programs that can batch process images from one format into another, but I have yet to see a program that can batch process image colors AND save the image as transparent GIF. If you can find a program that does both, let me know.

I not only have such a program, I have been using it to make all those buttons I uploaded for you to take a look at. I use Thumbs Plus 4.5, even though 5.0 is now out. I've been using Phillip Crews' software since it came out (it now costs $80, but used to be $10 in it's early, much less powerful versions!
). TP has extremely powerful functions, and is ideal for managing large numbers of graphics & photos. About buttons, the only "hard" thing is deciding on the exact look. The sequence of transforms, not just the transforms themselves, is what is important. The test cases I uploaded (the de-intensified blue, serpia, half-serpia) took about 20 seconds to do 60 of the 80 buttons I have stored. I am missing about 20 buttons, and some are mis-named (would take a while to serach for their right title), which is why I want a zipped file of the 80 you used.
The disadvantage to batch processing is that by definition, individual pixel editing, making, etc. is not possible. But that's OK, as I'm no graphics artist. But if a style is done (e.g., a button set is completed, like the ones you use) they can be transformed uniformly with any funtions (e.g., the result will match perfectly, as you can see from my posts of the test cases).

TP is comperable to Photoshop for technical ability and learning curve. TP and Photoshop have some overlapping functions, but they are very different programs (so I have both, but rarely boot into W2K for Photoshop, which I am not too good at anyway).
