Hello,
After lurking for years on the forum, I'll give a try at a game report with CiV. Sorry my game interface is in french, I'll try to translate what is confusing or mysterious.
First the game settings:
Huge Pangea on King at Epic speed and 16 civ/24CS
I normally would not choose those settings but the AI is currently too weak on ocean so bye bye my favorites maps for now. Anyway I end up with the son of Ra whose civilisation does not depend too much on the sea. Could this be a sign?
Dawn of neolithic on the egyptian people:
Wheat and wild game to feed our industrious people, ivory and marble to build and decorate my palace and above all the Nile king of rivers. That looks like the perfect place.
Therefore, in the year -4000 before I don't know what yet, the great Ramses has ordered his people to build a city that will soon be the eny of the whole civilised world, the refuge of the weak and the terror of the barbarians.
Our brave warriors are ordered to go explore the western lands while we recruit some light troops to explore the eastern woods. Finally our old wise people are asked to find a way to predict the flood of the Nile, which is so crucial for our agriculture. Strangely enough they answer that they first need the secret of cooking some kind of earth to make pots. We wonder if senility has not caught up with them but have no time to argue.
More wheat and more ivory, surely we have been blessed by Ra.
3975 BIDKWY
Our brave warriors tell us they found more wheat and some other strange plants with puffy balls of white and soft fur. Maybe our wise men will find some use to them in the future. They also find some ruins directly west from them, which they proceed to explore.
3950 BIDKWY
The objects they find are brought back in our capitol (and only city so far) and our culture greatly progresses because of this.
3925 BIDKWY
Because of our culture increase, our advisors tell us we can teach some good manners to our people. We tell them to learn Tradition, which will enable them to grow bigger crops at Thebes. On their way, they meet people of a city called Sidon, obviously far less cultured than us. To show their respect of our glorious people and his divine sovereign, they give us a tribute of 30 gold.
3900 BIDKWY
As they continue west, our warriors catch signs of some barbarian tribes north of their path and decide to investigate. But the barbarians seem to be in a strong position and our warriors decide not to waste time with them and continue their exploration as ordered.
3850 BIDKWY
Our warriors find some silver NW from Sidon and some more ruins to the west.
3825 BIDKWY
In those ruins, we find refugees scrapping moss from the walls to live. Always ready to come to the aid of the poor, our soldiers tell them of our glorious city were they are fed, clothed and put to work
.
3800 BIDKWY
Our scouts are now ready in Thebes and eager to explore the vast world. They are sent to the east while our warriors are commanded to move towards the barbarian camp they had seen before and they catch the glimpse of new ruins. Our minister of finances advises us to recruit some workers to build new farms on the rich wheat fields of the western bank. Sounds like a good idea.
3775 BIDKWY
Our scouts discover another barbarian camp north of the western river and keep a safe distance from them for now.
3750 BIDKWY
Our warriors find gold in the ruins, most of which find its way in our coffers, some being unexplainably lost in the way. Our scout find strange plants, which make a brightly coloured liquid when squeezed. More work for our wise people.
3725 BIDKWY
Our scouts make contact with the people of a town called Copenhagen who show their good sense by giving us a tribute of 30 gold. They also see some other ruins in the NE. Our warriors find the barbarians still fortified in their camp and pass north of them.
3700 BIDKWY
In the ruins, our scouts find strange curved sticks with strings attached at each end, after much thinking
they realise they can be used to attack enemy safely from a distance and decide to use them.
3650 BIDKWY
Our scout-archers discover some ruins in which live some more refugee. They are sent to our capitol where they will be taken good care of. Further west they also see some cows and strange insects that make balls of shiny threads. They also discover some more barbarians to the west.
3625 BIDKWY
Our scouts meet foreign people, coming grom the north, who also carry those strange curved sticks, they speak of a powerful leader called Washington who lives in a city that goes by the same name. What a lack of imagination! Back in Thebes, our wise people have finally succeeded in cooking earth and show me some strange objects they call "clay pots". We tell them they had fun long enough and it is time to find out when our river flood occur so we can avoid getting our feet wet. Our warriors are ordered to go north to find this city called Washington.
3575 BIDKWY
We meet some more foreign people, subject to a leader they call "The great Catherine". After some time, we find out, to our amazement, that this leader is a woman! On the other hand these soldiers are clothed just like women themselves with long coats and tunics while our warriors proudly wear short skirts and beach sandals as any true man would. Surely such people cannot pose a threat to our great civilisation. We offer them shelter and food in Thebes to save them from their obvious misery but they decline.
3450 BIDKWY
Our scout meet people carrying strange weapons: long straight wood shafts with a tip of bronze. maybe they are a army of cooks looking for a barbecue? They pretend to serve a peaceful king called Askia but seem to have lots of tales about burning cities. Maybe we should be careful.
Our workers are finally ready and are sent to build farms. We now start to recruit some more warriors to defend our glorious capitol. These last foreign encouters plus the looming threat of barbarians are not to be neglected. Our scouts find a barbarian camps and put their new weapons to good use.
3425 BIDKWY
Askia emissaries suggest that we sign a Pact of cooperation with them. We agree in a spirit of charity. Our scouts continue raining arrows on the barbarians from their hill.
3400 BIDKWY
Our scouts continue killing barbarians, few are left. But some other tribe arrives close to our capitol. They are met with arrows but many survive. Further north our warriors still have not found the fabled city of Washington but discover ruins further on their way.
3375 BIDKWY
Our warriors find ruins and gather 100 gold for our treasury. Considering that the barbarians are nearly dead, our scouts move to the ruins at the foot of the barbarian camp. There, they find strange signs carved on clay tablets. After much research
, they find out this is a way to record words and numbers. Great! Our wise folks will surely be able to put this to good use. Then they finish off the barbarians in their camp.
Meanwhile, barbarians continue to roam close to Thebes despite the arrows that rain from our walls, they start to get dangerously close to our workers.
3350 BIDKWY
Catherine emissaries suggest we sign a treaty of open borders, we accept fearing nothing from tunic wearing warriors. Our scout find that new barbarians have taken position in their camp, they retreat on their hill and fire at them. Their long training makes them more efficient against troops hidden in difficult terrain. In order to honour them, they are given the name of Horus our falcon God.
Around Thebes, the barbarians, obvisouly afraid of our workers, retreat in the woods.
3325 BIDKWY
Horus meet some scouts working for a king called Suleyman, we greet them peacefully. They then finish the second tribe of barbarians, leaving their camp undefended and ready to be plundered. Meanwhile our warriors, still looking for Washington find some more ruins and a huge crater, which discovery somehow fill our people with joy. Simple folks are easy to please it seems.
The barbarians around Thebes continue to wander aimlessly while shot at from the town.
3300 BIDKWY
Horus scouts move into the empty barbarian camp and plunder 37 gold. Our warriors search the ruins they have seen and find the same strange weapons carried by the warriors of Askia and decide to use them.
3275 BIDKWY
Suleyman suggests that we sign a Pact of cooperation, to which we agree.
3250 BIDKWY
Catherine asks if we would sign a treaty of cooperation, we agree readily. Our second warrior unit is now ready in Thebes, time for a little exercise, we have stopped shooting at the barbarians those last years so they can provide our soldiers with some training.
Our spearmen continues north and discovers more barbarians camps and more ruins. In the same time Horus scouts seem to have encountered impassable mountains, they are recalled to Thebes to help our warriors fend off barbarians. In our capitol, we start recruiting new scouts to explore southwards.
3225 BIDKWY
In the north our spearmen meet some archers with a strange accent and a strong cabbage smell. They apparently follow a leader called Bismark. They find some more refugees in the ruins and direct them to our glorious city, where they will be fed figs and honey
, before the cabbage eaters can get to them. If they only knew what they just escaped from
. In the distant north they see some vast water covered area and decide to investigate this strange phenomenon.
3200 BIDKWY
The spearmen meet a new city called Hanoï and reach a place covered by water as far as the eyes can see, local people call that "The Sea". Furthermore this water is bitter and undrinkable (but maybe not for cabbage eaters, who knows what such people might drink?). This is too much for our brave spearmen and they decide to get back home.
The Sea.
