After BNW Intro, G&K Loads with No BNW DLC

I'm on a 10.6.8 Mac and downloaded Brave New World last night (I'm in the US). When I load it, the new Brave New World intro plays, but then it reverts to Gods and Kings when the main menu comes up and Brave New World is not listed in the DLC. I've talked to Aspyr about this and they suggested everything from verifying the game cache, to restarting steam, to restarting my computer, to completely deleting and reinstalling CIV 5 and relaunching, yet the problem remains. So frustrating! It's been nearly 24 hours since I downloaded it and I can't play the Brave New World expansion.

Is anyone else on a Mac having this exact problem?

Not having the problem, but a couple of questions. Steam or MacAppStore? At the new launch screen does it show the BNW banner below the launch button? The first time I started the game, it showed all of the DLC with a Buy Now button. The next time I went in to actual play a game, it showed the banner.

Purchased it from Steam. The launch screen says Brave New World and even when I load the game, the banner on the game window says Brave New World but it still returns to Gods and Kings once the main menu loads and Brave New World is not showing up in the DLC menu. Aspyr says they still can't figure out what's going on but it's something to do with Steam not activating the full content and a lot of other people are reporting the same issue.

I had the same problem. Bought from GameAgent, added game to steam, saw a small download and then the G&K splash screen and no new civs.

Deleting the game files (control-click on the game title to get a popup menu) and then redownloading fixed it right up. I'm surprised Aspyr didn't tell you to do this.

BTW, they still haven't fixed the bug where switching graphic chips using gfxCardStatus after launching and quitting the game caused it to fail to run when you launched it again.

They did tell me to reinstall Civ 5 which I did but that didn't work either. I did however find a solution:

1) Completely deinstalling Civ 5
2) Creating a new user account with administrator permissions
3) In the new user account, completely dump anything to do with Steam
4) Re-download Steam and install it
5) Install Civ 5
6) Verify the game cache
7) Launch game

I think the initial problem has something to do with Steam not self-updating properly for some Mac users so there's some left over files causing BNW to revert to Gods and Kings, hence starting a brand new account, redownloading steam and reinstalling Civ 5. Obviously this is somewhat of a work around solution for most people, but it's the only way I've been able to get the expansion running.

Hello.
Does anybody know if that's been fixed or not ? (especially for the european Steam version...).

I clearly hesitate to buy the game...!

Well, as nobody answered, I suppose that it's still not working properly...:(

As I really don't want to do the complicated list of things that is discribed two posts above, I won't get the game until it's secured...

Hey guys just chiming in to say that I'm also having this problem. It's extremely frustrating after buying the game and being really excited to play it.

I'm going to try something similar to what jollysox did. I'll be back to report.

OK guys I was finally able to get the game to work! Thanks JollySox for the idea.

Here's what I did:
1) Uninstall Civ5 from Steam, delete all files associated with it on my comp
2) Uninstall Steam by deleting Steam application in applications folder and deleting all files associated with it on my comp (most are in /user/library/application support/steam)
3) Restart my comp
4) Download Steam
5) Once logged on to steam install Civ5
6) Right click on Civ5, go to properties and verify the game cache
7) Launch Civ5 and it loads as Brave New World finally!

I'm on a Mid 2010 iMac running 10.8 btw

Thank you, thank you! I really appreciate Jollysox and NaturalWonder for your help. I followed NaturalWonder's recipe and things work fine now. I'm not tech savvy so I was worried but things were relatively simple to do on my Mac 10.6.8.

As I have other games installed through Steam, I really don't want to have to delete and reinstall everything. So I'll wait for a decent version of the game or won't buy it.

Btw, does the AppStore version have the same kind of trouble ?

Glad I could be of any assistance, I know it's a pain of a work around, but it's the only thing that has worked for me.

Thanx NaturalWonder; you inadvertently followed Aspyr's advice. Here's my repost:

FYI for Mac users, this is Aspyr's official workaround for the "not launching/loading" issue. They say it works out 99% of the time, & PC users being more affected then Macs. They also say your Library will be intact afterwards. I'm presently doing #4; will repost result soon. BTW, calling them speeded up things.

1) Completely deinstall Civ 5 (right click on Civilization V from Steam and select Delete Local Content)
2) Completely dump anything to do with Steam (Steam App icon from Applications & the Steam folder from Library/Application Support)
3) Re-download Steam and install it (steampowered.com>Install Steam located in the upper right corner
4) Install Civ 5 (Log into Steam>Go to Library>Select Install for Civ 5)
5) Once installed, verify the game cache (right click on Civilization V>Properties>Local Files>Verify integrity of Game Cache)
6) Launch game

Edit: SUCCESS! Everything is running ok! Hope this also helps you out.

I don't have this exact problem, but I do get an infinite beachball that can only be solved by force quit while on the leader screen trying to start a game. Mr. Narrator gladly recites the text, and then.. I don't get a "start game" button.

I guess I'll try the same solutions..

Edit: Aspyr's 1-6 above seems to have done the trick. Goes without saying of course that it would have been better to not have to do that. :)

I just created an account to say thanks to you guys who provided the workaround.

Reinstalling Steam and the game worked fine for me.

Thanks again guys! Grrrr Macs!

I actually still have this problem. Everything was fine few months ago, now after i installed it again this happens. Unfortunately above solution doesnt work for me, I also sent ticket to 2K, waiting for response for the third week now... If anyone have any hints it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, welcome :wavey:

I doubt if 2K will do anything for you. They don't publish the Mac versions. You need to contact Aspyr Support.
