After the Launch

I'm not sure if it was due to Imp. Knoedel's threats or my EXTREMELY persuasive arguments, but everyone has been Emancipated! ;)

Excellent, the president is most complacent with the fact that this end was achieved peacefully.

Mitchum I'm at a loss for words! This map looks so awesome, just in the few minutes I had it opened my head was spinning thinking about possible strategies and so. I will certainly name my Ship the "Mitchum"

Ok I just want to be sure of a couple of things before we get started;

Was an admin password set? I don't need it if you'll be around.

As I mentioned a few days ago, Oliver's PC died, I'm sure he'll get it fixed asap,
So do we play our first turn and hang onto his turn until he' up, or do we just wait???

I'm working from my iPhone right now but when I can I'll update Post #1

Thanks. I hope you guys enjoy it. I tried to keep all options open to allow for just about any strategy.

Yes, I did set an Admin password and can do what is needed if/when it becomes an issue.

I can't wait to get started but if we have a player down for awhile, well I'm game either way

Keen to start but prepared to wait. I think better to wait until early January. There's a good chance this game could move fast once started.

As this is a game about preparing for a new life beyond earth I thought you might like my newly invented joke /quip.

" I was so busy holidaying in the Pyrenees, I missed the whole Mayan prediction fuss. Anyway it's not the end of the world "

I agree. But just received a turn from Oliver so his PC might be up. But it can be started on the End of the Mayan Calender or the Begining of Ours?

Thank you everyone for Playing! And Mitchum for this awesome Map!

Logistics align and the Seven players simultaneously receive an Envelope, You recognize the return address immediately.

Just for suspense purposes one of the subjects assigns you to Alpha Centauri, the Details are few, showing acknowledgment You are Competent enough to handle the Task on your own. You do notice a response is required and it looks like he's asking you for an estimated date of Departure?

As you look up, Your Great General appears, he's followed by a few other Great People, they too you know well.

As if it was done thousand times before, the group takes a chair for their Station and now with new faster ways to communicate, starts the "minutes" of the meeting. By the end of this meeting there'll be no doubt a workable schedule had been created and the measures required were checked and checked again.

Before closing (You) open a current map, further exploiting Modern Era Technologies. Your Great People turn to you and in unison say "We Salute your Leadership and we'll do whatever is needed"

The Meeting closes 12/21/2012 1151hr
Phase 1 initiated

So excited!!!! Michkov, thanks you are the man!!!!! great job.

And the Indians have already completed a wonder ;)

gps!

I've seen the the turn order and I think it matches the player list at the start of this thread. If there is anyone that needs player emails I'll be glad to forward it or as chaos calms I'll send out an email list/welcome letter.

I need Natuland´s address.
Also I would like to say that I am not content with the fact that I have 3 Furs. I see that everyone has 3 of the same resource, presumably to encourage trade, and I don´t think it´s really balanced that I get the only one that obsoletes. What am I supposed to do, not research Plastics?
Is the Time victory intentionally enabled? I doubt I´ll be able to settle more than two Cities in the next 50 turns what with the exponentionally increased Settler cost.
Nice going with the Kremlin there Nighthawk, I´m glad that I decided to go for Representation rather than Universal Suffrage now. Not that it mattered anyway, I get more GPP this turn than I´d need for popping my first GP, I think I can stay in a permanent state of Golden Age and still get more GPs than I would know what to do with. Philosophical rocks!

\Edit: Nvm I got it from Eclipse´s welcome letter.

Hmmm... I didn't even think about Fur obsoleting. What should we do? Restart with a new resource? That only seems fair.

Regarding the Time Victory, I enabled it. There is no way it will go to Time, right? Unless you guys plan to fight for a while. ;). I was thinking that if only Space were enabled that it may mess up other's spaceship builds. I never took the time to test this. Regardless, if someone wins by Space or Time, the winner should be able to select "Wait, let me play just one more turn..." and then the game would go on. The only downfall is that this winning player would still have to play his turns... and could wreak total havok...

The issue with settling 2 cities in 50 turns affects everyone, not just you, right? What do you suggest? That everyone get 2 or 3 settlers instead of 1?

I'm fine re-starting the game. This was untested and I've never played an advanced-start game so I wasn't entirely sure how it would play... If we do decide to restart, it would be best if everyone played his first turn just so that we can get everything figured out...

I agree, lets call this first turn, even the second as a test run.

Nighthawk asked me what we decided on Corporations but my memory fails me. I think all avenues of strategy should be included

Yup.

I dunno, I think we have to few turns.

Settlers get more expensive the later the starting era is, with a Modern start they cost almost as much as a National Wonder. I´d say we should get 4 Settlers, that should be plenty to fill our respective island.

I don´t really care, I think I´ll go for State Property later on anyway.

@ Imp. Knoedel

I have to say, the way you made your comments seems rather condescending and negative as opposed to constructive. I probably spent 20 hours keeping this thread going with deciding the game options and then putting this game together for you guys and the only things you have to say are negative. Whatever. Please don't ask me for anything in the future, OK?

I will replace Imp. Knoedel's fur with something else. IIRC, I used all of the happiness resources already so I'm not exactly sure what to replace it with. I'll have to look at it next week when I have time to get back to it. The goal was to benefit those that worked together and shared their resources and punish those that went after others. If I give Imp. Knoedel the same happiness resource as someone else, that would give those two no real reason to cooperate.

Regarding settlers and their cost, that's kind of the point. One strategy would be to work a ton of specialists and get a ton of GPs. Another option would be to put all of your citizens to work and crank out settlers as fast as possible. Another option would be to build up an army/navy and take out a neighbor. There were several variations. One great part of Civ is the variability and tradeoffs you have to make. I'm fine with whatever you guys decide but giving everyone enough settlers to fill out their islands takes one of these strategies/tradeoffs off the table...

I will unselect Time victory although I'm not sure that it would make any difference. Once the first person wins, they will have to select "Wait, let me play just one more turn..." and what is selected won't matter. No one has tested that far and I've definitely lost my desire to put too much more effort into this.

Regarding Corporations, it was decided that the later players would be unfairly punished because those that went first would be able to found all of them them. I guess the same thing goes with wonders so going earlier is a definite advantage in this game...

I'll wait until you guys all agree on how you want the game set up regarding settlers and what to do about the fur (i.e. what to replace it with). You guys can decide on the Corporations yourself as that doesn't affect the starting map. Once you've agreed, I'll make the changes and start the game again.

wat.

You said:

Be sure to check out your save right when you get it to make sure everything is correct (i.e. religion, civics, GPs, units, etc.). It would be better to restart after one turn than to figure out something is wrong 10 turns from now...

So I checked if everything was correct and posted my thoughts about that. After reading my comments several times I can´t figure out where you´d take offense to. I was neither snarky nor cynical, and I gave at least one constructive suggestion, namely the one of starting with four Settlers. Your argument is ergo ipso facto invalid.
Also Nighthawk and Eclipse already complimented you on your work, what am I supposed to do, post "Yeah, what they said!"?

Gems, Gold, Silver, Sugar, Spice, Silk, Dye would be 7 resources with 2 Happiness/1 Happiness+1 Health each, to name some. \constructive
